The sky above the city was calm and for Skyler irresistible. A rare mountain wind had been blowing through for several days cleansing the air in the city making it more breathable.
The fresher air brought more people out of their homes and as a result, the government stepped up its patrols throughout the city to counteract the rise in the number of people in the streets.
Skyler having the normal air patrol times figured out, didn't notice the government chopper that was in front of her till she buzzed it. The pilot, almost having bird girl splattered across his cockpit, started to chase after her.
"Why does everything good in this city have a negative to go with it?" She said as she pointed herself towards the high-rises. She was no match for a gunship head on but, she could outmaneuver it and evade it by forcing it to try to run a gauntlet of tight high-speed turns, where one misstep would mean hitting a building.
The pilot was gaining on her as she sped towards the buildings. When she got into an avenue she suddenly started hugging a building before pushing off onto another street. Using the buildings as a shield she was able to get some distance between her and the chopper. After about sixteen minutes at least two other choppers had joined the pursuit. They were attempting to cut her off by flying over the adjacent streets. She could change altitude quickly enough to go under or above the choppers to get around them but she needed to wait for the right moment. Too early and she'll get shot to pieces, too late and she would hit the building ten blocks in front of her.
With a flick of a feather, she hugged another building and came off of it at high speed. She shook off the three choppers briefly before two of them came after her again. If she was going to get away she would need to fool them and the only way of doing that was to use the superhighway tunnel as a cloaking device. Being about a mile long and having several openings between the north and southbound tunnels she would have just enough time to do a 180 and deass the area.
Seeing no other option she started to speed out that way at speeds approaching 35O while hovering around 17 feet above the highway. It was too dangerous to fly any lower and she couldn't afford a collision at that speed. Seeing the tunnels coming into view she began to reduce her speed so she could let the choppers catch up and to not get a face full of concrete when she doubled back. When she entered she could hear the choppers scream over to the other end expecting her to come out through the other end.
Figuring she would only have three more seconds before they realized what she did, she landed in the tree line beside the road and started walking away from the area.
It was late afternoon by the time she walked back into the city and found her silhouette plastered across every tv that was showing the news. Lucky, none of the images showed her face, but if someone was paying attention they would recognize her clothing. She was now imfamous and had a bounty over her head. She needed new clothes and a place to lay low for a while. Neither would be easy to get. She knew no one in the city and she lacked knowledge of where to get some new clothing that she could wear.
