One Thousand Club
Welcome to Springdale, a small town in the deep South. It has that small town charm and the people have that Southern hospitality. Unfortunately, the citizens are quite... traditional as well. Our story begins with Lorraine Carter, a psychologist who moved to Springdale. She started a support group at the Springdale community center for the teens of Springdale as well as the nearby towns. Now, normally, something like this would be all fine and dandy, except the support group was for teens who were LGBTQ+.
To her credit, Lorraine managed to have sessions for about half a year. For six months, she gave LGBT teens a place where they could meet those who had similar experiences and be themselves in a town with a culture that wasn't so accepting. Unfortunately, as more and more people found out, more and more of the townspeople worked to shut it down. The support group had its last session during May, just before Summer started.
There, Lorraine told the members that they would not have any more meetings and she would soon be moving on. Many of the members were devastated to have lost the one place where they were safe to be themselves, but while some felt helpless, others felt inspired by their mediator. The following Fall, even though Lorraine was gone, her support group would stay. Some of the members decided to keep her work going and to provide a place where those who were usually judged and outcast could feel safe. It had to be discreet this time around though, in order to not once again draw the attention of people wanting to shut them down. They would have to do it under the guise of something niche, that wouldn't draw the attention of those who didn't know and didn't bring suspicion on the ones who did. Thus, the Cartography Club was born.
Hi! Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read. My name is Anne, and this is project I'll be hosting with my co-GMs Goob ( gxxberkit ) and Ari ( AriAriAbabwa ). We were looking to create a space where writers could focus on queer characters and queer relationships and took inspiration from Geography Club. There will be a few key differences here, in that the meetings won't happen at school, but at some other location. That being said, the RP won't only take place at the meetings. There will be other events and arcs for the characters to go through together, and and we want the players to give us ideas for them as well!
In terms of characters, we're looking primarily for LGBT+ teens (14 - 18). Straight, cisgender characters will be accepted in the form of allies or the occasional straight person who is actually interested in cartography, but the focus of the RP will be on the queer characters and their experiences in a not-so-accepting place. We also want the stories written to be fairly realistic, so dark topics including but not limited to homophobia, transphobia, mental illness, and substance abuse may come up during the rp.
1. Be respectful. Although it may show up in the RP, no homophobia, transphobia, racism, etc. will not be tolerated OOC.
2. Follow RPN rules!
3. Don't control others' characters. Although this won't be combat-heavy or anything, don't godmode.
4. On the topic of characters, we'd like to see a diverse cast of characters!
5. Romance is welcome and encouraged, but still optional! Make sure to fade to black when necessary, though.
6. Please try to post once a week. Life happens for everyone, but we're hoping for this to be relatively active.
7. Please try to let us know if you won't be able to post for awhile. We'll save your spot until you come back!
8. If you aren't interested in the rp anymore, once again, please let us know. No hard feelings!
9. We're limiting everyone to 2 characters to start. Those who are shown to be consistent will be able to make more.
10. We will be using Discord for OOC. A lot of planning and discussion will happen there, so it is mandatory.
11. I and the co-GMs may add more rules if necessary.
