Can Draw, Digital Coloring Needs Work--Tips?

This doesn't necessarily have to be a tutorial but tutorial suggestions are welcome.

I am used to drawing pencil on paper and either doing black and white shading, coloring with colored pencils, charcoal, ink washes and acrylic paints.  I would really like to get into digital art. I am currently using GIMP 2, scanning drawings in and working from there. I've always struggled with actually using color in my art unless it's a colored pencil. Any advice or tips?

My first advice would be to get something other than Gimp. Try Medibang or Krita for free art alternatives then buy Clip Studio Paint whenever it goes on sale. The last bit is optional.

There are plenty of digital painting tutorials on the web. Could you show us an example of a piece you need help with?

I would also suggest using a different art program. I am rather fond of PaintTool SAI *coughpiratecough*

Jazza did a tutorial on colouring traditional art, so hopefully this will be helpful to you.
