*RIIIIING* I lashed out with my fist and sent the alarm clock sailing across the room. I knew exactly what time it was by the sun just coming over the horizon. 6:30am. It was time to get the camp ready for the new arrivals. I stretched as I walked into the shower. As the hot water cascaded around me, I checked my skin for signs of hemorrhaging. Being a Haemokinetic, or Blood Bender as we are referred to as, I had to constantly check my body for internal "leakage". I got out of the shower, and looked over at the shattered alarm clock. I reached out with my mind, and began to reassemble it. I was a Ferrokinetic as well, meaning I could control metal, but I rarely used it. I picked up the assembled clock and put it back on the nightstand. As I headed for the door, I grabbed my black counselor uniform, which consisted of track pants, a spandex undershirt and a hooded sweatshirt, off the counter in the kitchen and pulled it on. None of the other counselors were awake yet, which gave me some time to head to the training ground and meditate. "Here's to another year, Tim, make the best of it," I muttered as I walked across the cool grass toward the grounds. "Let's just hope the kids have more common sense this time."

It was around 7:00am when I finally reached the training grounds near the entrance to the camp. I took a deep breath in and looked around. I could see that the medical pavilion and dining hall staff were preparing for the arrival of the campers near the north side of the grounds. The medical pavilion's white-washed walls were a stark contrast to the rising red sun, and the dining hall was nearly invisible due to the dark blue paint job. I looked back at the cabins on the west end of the grounds. The counselor cabin, being the only two story building in that area, dwarfed the other cabins by comparison, but they look almost alike. "They almost look like Lincoln log cabins" I muttered. I turned back towards the entrance to the camp, on the south end of the compound. I sat down in the sand and gravel fighting pit, and waited to hear the sounds of cars pulling into the lots.

Archer sighed opening his eyes as the chiming of his phones alarm clock woke him up. Or meant to. He really didn't know why he set it since he always woke up before it. Standing from his vanities leather chair he walked over to his small bed and picked up his phone. Dismissing the alarm he turned it off shoved it in his pocket grabbed his leather messenger bag and left. He wanted to get out of the orphanage before the others got up.

Grabbing an apple from the kitchen he headed outside and waved lazily at the cab that was waiting for him. Sliding in the back seat, he looked out the window as the world passed by. The ride passed in silence. When the cab pulled up at the camp gates he got out paid the driver then walked closer before finally looking up from the ground.

He took a deep breath his stomach full of butterflies as he stared the entrance to the camp. This is where he was promised answers and a safe place. Where he was promised friends maybe even a family. He wasn't going to ruin it.

Taking another deep breath to calm himself he walked in and immediately spotted the man that must be the counciler. Turning toward him he held his hand out."The names Archer."

The sound of a child's voice broke me out of my meditative state. I looked up, and right into the eyes and outstretched hand of a black and silver haired boy who couldn't be more than 16. I stood up, brushed myself off, and shook his hand. "Archer, I'm head counselor Richards. Welcome to Haven." As I shook his hand, I felt something very familiar. I raised an eyebrow at him. "You wouldn't happen to be a blood bender would you?"

Kiesha was nervous, very nervous. Despite all her godfathers promises of a better life, and even more important, control over her talent. That's what he would call it, a talent. She thought of it as a curse, a burden. It took her away from her parents, it made others treat her differently. She didn't want people to be scared of her. All Kiesha wanted was to be accepted and be normal. She of course told her guardian this, and all he did was assure her, that this camp 'would hold the answers', whatever that meant. The stop of the car told her she was at the camp. Turning to her godfather she saw tears glistening on his cheeks. "Going to miss you papa." She said leaning over to give him a goodbye kiss on the cheek. She then unbuckled and opened the door. Grabbing her things she walked over to the two men. Steeling herself so she wouldn't cry, she turned to the older of the two. "Where can I put my things?"

Archer started at the question and feeling of farmilarity he got when as he shook councilor Richerds hands. Wary of the question and feeling he slowly nodded eyeing him. "In fact I am."

I smiled. This was going to be a good year. Another camper had arrived, and I turned my attention to her for a moment. "You can place you things at the edge of the ring for now. I will give you both a brief introduction to the camp in a moment." The sun was beating down now on the camp, and the other counselors were dealing with more new arrivals, gathering them near the ring. I turned back to Archer " We will have to finish this conversation later. Take a seat around the ring."

Archer nodded silently already moving toward the ring. He wanted to know the reason behind the question but he was patient. He could wait.

The ring? Where the heck was that? Seeing that the man who had spoken to her had averted his gaze back to the other man, she grumbled and dragged her things, to what looked like might have been a ring. Muttering under her breath, "Yep, life only gets better"

I stepped forward out of the fighting pit, and into the center of the demonstration ring a few feet away. The counselors had gathered most of the campers around it in a semi-circle. I spied Archer and the girl sitting near the front. I cleared my throat, and began the introduction speech. "Welcome. My name is head counselor Richards, and this is Haven. You are here because you have a gift. A gift, but you don't understand how to control it. We will help you control and master what you were given at birth. Some of you have used your gift for good. Others have used it for not-so-good means. Fear not, we accept all. Now, before the other counselors get you settled in, I have a question." I looked around at the campers faces. Some were intensively listening, others were barely paying attention. "Who would like to demonstrate what they can do?" I held my arms out, gesturing to the ring. "If you can hit me, just once, I will kneel and call you master of your gift."

Kiesha perked up, at the last comment. There was no way she would verse him, she didn't know a single thing about her 'talents'. She however, was eager to see the others abilities.

She sighs and looks around, nervously biting her nails off one by one. Her overall fear was accidently hurting one of the beings around her if she had tried to demonstrate her 'gift' as they say. She wouldn't call it that. After a while, being able to do things others couldn't got pretty boring, and she figured if she came to Camp Haven, maybe her point of view on thie 'gift' would change and she'd appreciate it the way her parents wished she would.

I looked around at the camper's faces. None of them wanted to verse me of their own choice. I smiled. Now came the fun part. "So, none of you feel up to the task of showing what you can do? Very well. I will pick one of you at random then." I walked around the semi-circle of campers, making it look as if I was trying to decide, but I already had one on my mind. I stopped behind the girl I met earlier. I put my hand on her shoulder. "You, stand up and join me in the ring."

Archer raised an eyebrow at councilor Richards last comment but didn't respond. He wasn't one for violence and really didn't care for the reward if he won which he doubted he would. Sure he had good control over his powers. Great even as he has been using them since he first noticed them. But he didn't have the experience when it came to using them as weapons which this guy probably did.

When no one spoke up he listened to Richards speech then watched slightly anxious as Richards circled the campers. He didnt want to get chosen. Finally he came a stop behind the girl from earlier and chose her.

Izzy's heart slowed as he chose the other girl to challenge. Thank you! She thinks quietly as relief flows through her sytem and she watches curious of how it's going to happen. She was not one to like all the attention and from the other girl's expression before he chose her, she could tell she wasn't a fan either.

When he started to near me, I knew I was in for it. When he put his hand on my shoulder, I trembled. I couldn't go up there! Did he realize what happened when I got afraid, or mad? I caused tsunami's, for crying out loud! "I'd rather not." she pushed his hand off of her shoulder. Not knowing what else to do, to get him to leave her alone she blurted out, "I don't use my talents for entertainment purposes."

I was surprised at her courage for speaking back to me. "You say you don't use it for entertainment, yet you call your gift a 'talent'?" I reached out with my mind and searched for her blood flow. I found the arteries and veins in her legs, and commanded them to make her stand up. If she could resist this, I would kneel and call her master.

Feeling my legs starting to stand up, I tried to will them down, yet they seemed to have a mind of their own. "Please, don't" she whispered. She didn't want to cause a disaster, it would make a bad impression. She tried to push the anger down, but it was starting to surface. "1..2...3....4" she tried, gritting her teeth. The councler wondered about her comment of 'talent'? " You're right, it's a curse. It's not some stupid gift or even a talent! Its a curse of the devil! That's what it is!" She said loud enough for everyone to hear. Feeling the air sweep around her, she knew it was almost too late to calm down. It was his move, if he made her move so much as an inch. She was going to explode.

Izzy watches as clearly she was struggling and had no control. Although, this girl was right about the 'gift'. It certainly wasn't a 'gift' nor a talent. It was just simply nonsense. None of it made sense to her. Looking down, she thinks about turning and sneaking away to somewhere else instead of watching whatever this was.

I felt the wind begin to swirl around the ring. She was a wind tamer. Interesting. However, it was forming too quickly and uncontrolled. I reached out again, feeling for her cerebral capillaries. Cut those off, the power dies. However, before I did so, I wanted to understand why she called it a curse. "You call this gift a curse of the devil? This gift makes use stronger than anyone else on this planet. We are the apex of human evolution. Treat it as such." Then I constricted the capillaries in her mind. It would only take her six seconds to pass out unless she could break my focus.

That's it, she couldnt hold back anymore. She exploded. The grass died all around her, and she shot up to the sky. Water circling around her, and her wind kept her aloft. The water formed into icicles and flew them straight at the man. She didnt have control over herself, she tried to stop it, but her sight was getting fuzzy. Soon the wind currents whipped into the new campers, getting stronger and stronger. She wanted to yell run, but the power had taken its control.

Izzy's hair blows as the wind lashes at her skin. It was painful and it only got worse. Backing up, she looks at the girl and tries to block her face from being hit by the wind and starst thinking that her idea to bail this training challenge thing was better. Sighing, her attemtion goes back to the counselor in hopes he would help her calm down.

Before I could blink, she was up in the air, and I barely had time to register what was happening before icicles were flying at me. I rolled out of the way, the icicles impaling the ground where I stood. This girl was something else. I had never encountered someone with this amount of rage before. But that was all it was, rage. I yelled up at her. "You have power, but you can't hide from the truth of the matter. You are different, and you have a gift. I will teach you to control it. Starting now." I reached out and felt her coraded artery and jugular vein. Constrict those, and you cant breathe. I closed them off. I yelled to her again. "Stop this now, or I will have to use all of my ability to bring you down." I hoped she would see reason.

Archer stood and jumped back barely dodging the ice cycles that impaled themselves into the now barren ground. He had been frozen in shock when she shot up in the air as he realized the reason behind the feeling and question he got from the man. He was a blood bender like him. It was obvious to see when one looked espescially with how he tried to control the girl.

Looking up at the girl he saw that she was lost to her rage and knew he wouldn't be able to help her. The councilor better know what he's doing.

Instead of taking any chances, she backs away slowly hoping to make it somewhere else than here. Was this mandatory? Did she even have to wait here to watch. This all seemed pointless anyway, obviously this girl had anger issues and they weren't going to be fixed anytime soon.
