Realistic or Modern Calamity

As addressed in the private message, I’d like to cover some information that is essential to story-building, formatting and how the role-play will be progress before we begin. To begin, the overview section of the role-play contained the first small piece of information essential to properly incorporating your character into the world where ‘Calamity’ takes place: School setting, moreover the fact that these youths are students, and undoubtedly ill-trained in the high altitudes of combat.

That being said, you are expected to know the history of every character before you write your first post, and you also need to be aware that because we’re generically high school students, their known to make mistakes. Your character is not flawless, and as detailed writers, we expect you to understand that role-players
aren’t their characters. If for any reason a character develops a quarrel with yours, please don’t act childishly towards the role-player.

Also, in regards to character deaths, If you wish to change your character, decide that you no longer want to be apart of the role-play, or find it appropriate to end your character’s life, you may address it to the OCC and plan it out with who ever you wish to either kill your character, or simply write a good exit scene for them. If your character has been killed, you’re always welcome to wait for a window of opportunity and introduce a new one.

Regarding post rotations, in order to assure that every player has equal participation: once you have posted, you aren’t allowed to post again until every other person has posted. If you need an interaction to work out in a certain way, you’ll need to plan ahead with the included people. Other than that, you’re free to post in whichever order you see fit.

Also, following this post, you’ll be assigned a number for the randomized plot devices for this role-play. If you’re worried about this spiraling your character out of your control, the rolls will never be used to decide the fate of your character, but, simply steer the situations that will gear our group towards the end goal of the role-play.

As it has not been stated yet, and won’t be stated in the role-play for awhile: the end goal of this role-play is to escape Japan and reach the closest safe-haven, Sado Island. Once you depart from the boats in Niigata to go to this location, the role-play will have ended. The path for this journey can be seen below. ↓

For humans that have been exposed to a mutated strain of Ophiocordyceps Unilateralis, the fungus attacks the brain and begins to alter the behavior of its host. The host will then go through four different stages of infection: Runner, Stalker, Clicker, and Bloater; each stage is more dangerous than the last.

Runners (Stage 1)
Runner

Runners are the first and weakest stage of the Infected who have just recently entered their transformation. People who have been infected will enter this stage within two days, with increased irritability and hostility towards others being a key symptom. Since the eyes are first targeted by the fungus, Runners have poor eyesight, but maintain many human instincts. For example, their moans are still human, just like their overall appearance. A way to tell them apart from normal survivors is their glowing red eyes. Their body language is sluggish while they are passive, suggesting they are resisting the fungus's influence. Sometimes they do not attack at all, even when non-infected individuals are right in front of them. These non-aggressive Runners will only attack if attacked first or when an object is thrown at or near them, thus losing control. Much like sneezing, the urge to attack after such interactions happens involuntarily and unwillingly by the host. Runners are confirmed to be able to attack in packs, flailing their arms and trying to trample the survivor.

Stalkers (Stage 2)
Stalker

Stalkers have the vision and speed of Runners, with the ferocity of Clickers. The most notable physical traits that define the Stalkers are the distinct croaking noises they make, the beginning of fungal growths on the head and face with only one eye left, the development of pseudo-echolocation, and their discretion upon spotting a victim at distance. They will strafe and take cover, eventually closing in on the victim, hence the name "Stalker". Up close, Stalkers are very aggressive and will charge directly at the victim.

Clickers (Stage 3)
Clicker

Clickers are the third and most iconic stage of the Infected. They have had prolonged exposure to the fungus, and now possess strength that significantly surpasses the average human. This makes them deadlier, but at the price of being completely blind due to fungal infection taking over their face. However, Clickers are able to maneuver through areas by utilizing echolocation, which produces noticeable clicking/screeching noises to locate sources of sound.

Clickers appear less human than Runners and Stalkers, with faces that are completely skewed and scarred by fungus developed from their infected brains. The fungal plates have apparently adapted to keep the host/pathogen alive and able to spread, as a direct shot to the face with a powerful weapon such as a revolver will more often than not just break off a chunk of the mold, leaving the Clicker's brain unharmed but exposing the victim's face and rendering them able to see once again. Clickers are dangerous and much more aggressive than Runners, and like Stalkers; they no longer resist the fungus because their humanity has been completely eliminated.

  • Enhanced strength
  • High intelligence
  • Relentless in scouting for unknown noise source(s)

Bloaters (Stage 4)
Bloater
Bloater.jpg

Bloaters are the fourth, final, rarest and most dangerous stage of infection as they take the longest to develop. They are covered in thick fungus that effectively acts as armor. Due to this protective covering, they can withstand multiple hits from weapons such as the Shotgun and Hunting Rifle, and even hatchets and machetes making them extremely tough to eliminate. Bloaters are extremely aggressive, but are rather slow-moving causing them to be more predictable than other infected. Like Clickers, Bloaters 'see' using echolocation to locate and trap a survivor. Because the fungus has completely deformed their face and blinded them, their echolocation is a lot less refined than the Clickers. If a Bloater grabs a survivor, it will forcefully rip their jaw apart through brute strength, or grab the player's head and smash it, killing them instantly. Bloaters will throw sacks of Mycotoxin, a toxin produced by many fungi in the real world. The sack will explode on impact, spraying the target with the toxin.

Bloaters, like all Infected, have a weakness to
fire.

So are we able to reply yet or has the rp technically not been started?

Hi guys! As some of you know, I've just moved to a different country which has been the cause of my recent inactivity. However, I hope to be more active now that I've settled in a little, but I would just like to let you all know that my use of wifi is a tiny bit more restrictive. It's okay though, it won't obstruct the quality or quantity of my posts :) I'm working on my newest post as we speak, and from now on my activity should be more consistent!

Please refrain from writing & posting until the next GM post, as it will be crucial to the development of the roleplay.

Alright, so the GM post is up. Sorry about it being so small, but it we tried our best to make our point without it possibly overwhelming the characters, as well possibly diverting them from any sort of path they wish to take with this. That being said ...

If you have any questions, please ask.

P.S. Mine is better

I know. I need to STOP joining new roleplays with my shitastic schedule. I wanna write but when I get home from work, I'm like a for srs zombie. And yeah, I'm enjoying it thus far. I have to say Taro is probably my favorite just because of how hilarious awkward he is. I'll probably get some posts up in a little bit after I shower and get something to eat as I've 3-4 days off from work.
