Appearance
As a well-known noble, Cael's looks are always of high expectations. Standing firm and erect at 6'0, this man shows the pride of being a Renvall. Every move he does shows arrogance, and at the same time, grace. His sky blue eyes, ever watchful of his subjects, always give off a fearsome glare when he needs to. His crimson hair had grown long enough to reach the edge of his nape. His voice, speaks with such authority, that those who question him are countable by one hand. Now, he no longer looks as pale when he was still young, with his skin well-toned. Several scars are hidden beneath his clothing, which most were reminders of the war named Fall of Monarchs. Ever since then, Cael's gaze always seemed to be distant, whenever he sits on the throne of his keep, as if something is always bothering him.
The armor he dons on shines as if it was new, despite holding a few scratches here and there. Cerulean trimmings are found complimenting the silver pieces of metal he wore. His cape, of a darker shade of blue, bears the crest of the Renvall family - a fierce lion, the symbol of valor and honor. It is adorned with the fur of a white tiger, rarely seen in Ristafel. Beneath this armor, the head of the Renvall wears simple linen clothing, made for comfort and durability.
Personality
When he was still young, Cael was a person of conflicting ideals. He valued peace and harmony, but often did things through violent means. He sought justice, yet there were times when he was very much unjust. Emotions were once a problem for him, for sometimes, he would be overwhelmed by them and he would act solely based on them.
However, after experiencing strange and globally-affecting happenings such as the dreaded Mid-Sea War, and the Fall of Monarchs, he truly had changed.
Now, he seeks to achieve his goals through the most effective and least costly way. If violence is needed, then so be it, but he will not go head-on and allow his men to be reduced greatly. Rumors say that there was even an occasion wherein all of those followed him in battle returned alive and only bearing a few wounds. He now sees all equally, even to the point that he punishes himself for violating the laws he had passed. Nothing goes beyond him unchecked, and he speaks to his subjects with transparency. Although there are a few who thinks the man still has some secrets, waiting to be revealed.
To his family, he proves to be a great father and husband. His kids love and honor him, and so does his wife. Even with him having such heavy responsibilities, he still manages to make some time for them. It is said that he is entirely a different person around his family than around his loyal subjects.
Backstory
"Old traditions were broken. New ones were made."
Born of the noble house Renvall, Cael was by no means, pampered. To uphold the reputation of their family, Cael's parents subjected him to rigorous training, both in mind and body. He had to balance out his very difficult academical sessions with his tough combat training. And every single time that he faltered, or failed on any of them, he would be punished accordingly, ranging from the temporal removal of his food up to simply physical scolding. Such was his childhood, it was tough, but it prepared him for what was to come.
It was not so soon that he had to do one final test, to end all of these. He had to travel all across Ristafel, and do a heroic feat, such as bringing back a powerful relic, slaying a mighty beast or more, etc. And so, bringing all that he learnt in his training, and a custom-made rapier, he went on, to prove that he truly was a Renvall.
For weeks, he wandered around Ristafel, fighting beasts he had not known before, encountering people he'd never met before, and doing feats that he had only imagined at the comfort of the Renvall Keep. He enjoyed the outside world, he savored every moment of his adventure in this quest. However, such would have to end.
It was when a city he was currently staying in, which was named Codarc, was under attack by a group of bandits. However, they were unlike ordinary bandits, they had organized tactics, they had strong weapons, and of course, they were very skilled. The city was in danger, and Cael knew that he had to do something about. And so, with the aid of the city's guards, he battled against hordes of bandits. The fight seemed endless, but with his unwavering determination, he and the guards and finally defeated and fended off the brigands. However, the battle's consequences had taken their toll on him. He had suffered grave wounds, and was unconscious for a few days.
When he had woken up, he was branded as a hero of the city, and was safely returned to his home - the Renvall Keep. There, his parents welcomed him with tears, saying that they should have not followed the tradition, that they should have simply let him be who he is. But before they could even make the statement, Cael interfered.
He had made the statement instead of them. "The blood of the Warrior King Renvall will break tradition this day. No longer shall the descendants of his be needed to grow up to be a great warrior. Instead, they shall carry the burden of making Ristafel - no, the world a better place for all."
"I have sacrificed much for my beloved homeland."
A few years just after his rising as the new head of the Renvall house, a civil conflict began to spark. The locals of Ristafel had grown tired of being under the rule of the nobles, making the streets unsafe for anyone from a noble house. Workers began to march in groups, rallying for the nobles to step down from their thrones. Productivity of the different regions began to fall dramatically, and trades were stopped. Ristafel slowly came to chaos. It was not soon that the nobles retaliated to such protests, burning the villages of those who opposed their reign. It seemed like a normal state to others, that it was simply a phase that every nation must go through at some point.
But Cael did not see that. He felt estranged by the sudden uprising. He knew that something was up, and that it would cause the downfall not only of the nobles, but all of Ristafel. And he had to do something about it. So, he sent out scouts, to gather information, from any source that they can - be it reliable or not, and quickly report back to him. A few of his spies returned, and the rest were missing or found dead in secluded regions. And upon their return, a crucial information had been revealed to Cael.
It seemed that something was plotting this, seeking nothing but the fall of Ristafel. But who or what could it be? Where would such a thing hide as the blood of Ristafelians continue to be shed? Without any clear hint, Cael was left in the dark. So once more, Cael sent out his scouts to gather information about this. Soon enough, he had found out that the very king of Ristafel is responsible for this. That the man who rules the land is working with some suspicious creature.
With haste, Cael prepared his army, and readied to assault the main keep. But how could they penetrate the king's defenses? It was simple, they attacked at night, when the walls of the king's castle are at their most vulnerable. As the shadows of the night crept, Cael and his army wove through the defenses of the castle with ease. The guards were unprepared, not was the king. In a matter of moments, the king alone was left. Or was he?
Apparently, the suspicious creature plotting this whole mess was there at that time. Cornered, and agitated, the creature easily made a waste of Cael's army. The creature was a strange one. Made of shadow it was, but it looked like a man's silhouette, the king's silhouette. It was not ethereal, and physical contact could be made with it. Apparently, this creature hungers for bloodshed, and offered the king power beyond his dreams, which had made all of these happen.
Angered, Cael asked the aid of his army once more, and charged towards the creature and the king. The battle between them was fierce, and bounced from one side to another. It almost took forever, but in the end, Cael and his army was victorious, but at a great cost. His army was reduced to a mere number countable by his two hands, and Ristafel no longer had a ruler. Cael was not fit for to be king yet, nor does he have the support of the people with the chaos going on. But he cannot leave Ristafel like this.
So, he called upon the locals of Ristafel, and spoke to them of the truth. And during that time, he had proclaimed that Ristafel will no longer be rules by a single man, but instead, will be under the rules of righteous nobles, whom the people will be vetoing for. Surprisingly enough, the people agreed with him, and a included the Renvall house to be one of these nobles to govern a part of Ristafel, assigning him his homeland, the region of Vernheil.
"Ristafel will , once more, prove to be the greatest of all."
Years after the Fall of Monarchs, the noble house of the Desterrat clan had began to launch attack on nearby lands, seeking for power and authority. Their head says that it is time for Ristafel's king to return to his throne, and that such a person would be him. They launched attacks that ere planned so well, that many of them surrendered as soon as the war trumpets were sounded. Seeing that such would be the start of another dark age for Ristafel, the Renvall house sought the allegiance of the noble houses from nearby regions, offering them their aid. A few agreed to this, forming the alliance of Renvall.
However, with the powerful army of the Desterrats and its conquered territories, Renvall could not reach out to others before they'd be assaulted. It was not so soon that the Desterrats had taken control of most of the regions of Ristafel. Then came the time that the Desterrats had assaulted the allied regions of the Renvalls, but failed miserably, forcing them to retreat in shame. Enraged at this, the head of the Desterrat house had declared war against the Renvall house and its allies. The Renvall house did not fear, and accepted this declaration. They continue to stand firm and endure against the might of the Desterrats.
Skills
As the head of the Renvall house, he has his connections with other nobles. He can easily gain access of restricted areas, and collect favors from his friends. His authority with those who follow him is unquestioned, making it seem as if he is one of the most powerful people in the whole world. His knowledge on the history of Ristafel is exemplary, and his way of thinking had rendered his forces undefeated as of the moment.
Abilities
Inheriting his father's blood, who had lived before the Mid-Sea War, he had gained a very little portion of Cerpus's blessing, which allows mortals to age longer than they should have. Apparently only a few people have received such a blessing, that most men would only live up to a hundred years or lower. His skills with the sword has not faded yet, and his physique is still quite sturdy. It would not be a surprise if Cael would easily defeat some younger warrior, since he had fought many battles before, and has surely learnt a thing or two from them.
