Character sheet:

Name: Robert Hewitt

Rank: Captain, 10th Dragoon Regiment

Age: 28

Gender: M

Family fortunes: A generation ago, Robert’s stepfather was a newly minted Baronet. However, there was some question is to how the stepfather could afford price of a Baronetcy with such a small amount of land holdings. There were rumors that the Honorable Claire Hewitt, Robert’s mother, had been seduced by the Duke of Gloucester and later discarded when his Grace was married to an American heiress from New England. The expenditure could have been hush money to make a pint sized problem go away. Since Robert was born from a previous marriage, he is not the heir. His younger, twelve year old half brother is. The estate, known as Shadybrook Farm, is rather modest with a half a dozen or so tenets. In addition, Captain Hewitt receives half pay being on reserve duty.

Person: Hewitt has dark brown hair and sea foam green eyes. He has broad shoulders and he is 5’10” and a muscular 195 lbs. He has a prominent scar on the right side of his face

Character: After receiving a scholarship to Winchester College, a public school for boys, he was member of the fencing team who met Eton in the England public school championship. After disparaging comments were made about the character and reputation of Hewitt’s mother, he retaliated with a punch in the face to the nephew of the crown prince. Winchester was forced to forfeit the match and the championship to Eton. Hewitt was subsequently kicked out of Winchester College. But, as one door closes and another opens. Monies were found for him to purchase an officer’s commission in the 10th Dragoons as a coronet, the historical regiment (read private army) of the Dukes of Gloucester. While with the Dragoons, Hewitt served under one of the most respected officers of the entire British Expeditionary Force, Sir Henry Thawley. Rather than work on Hewitt’s short comings in manners and gentlemanly conduct, Sir Henry believed that the regiment had its fill of the sociable officers and needed more competent soldiers. Sir Henry saw fit to mold Hewitt as clay into an officer who could lead men into battle and be depended upon. This was accomplished with drill, more drill, supervising drill, delegating drill to more junior officers and still more drill. Fulfilling other responsibilities included guard duty, patrolling, periodic skirmishing with the enemy, and patches of intermittent yet intolerable boredom. This was followed by heaps and heaps of paperwork. Occasionally, there was some large and terrifying battles. As a result, Hewitt knows a great deal about guns, horses, men, and war.

He served admirably in the loss at Corunna, as well as victories of the Almeida and Salamanca. He rose in the ranks to Lieutenant and later became a Captain. After Sir Henry was wounded in the siege of Burgos, Hewitt lead his fourth squadron and remnants of the first and third squadrons through the breach in the city walls and secured the city’s cathedral against the French. For this he was award a Meritorious Service Citation and an accommodation from the King of Spain in exile. He speaks accented Spanish and knows all the swear words in French.

He understands very little about high society, ladies, manners, and the art of conversation.

Talents: Robert is an exceptional swordsman, deadly accurate with the Paget Cavalry Carbine Musket, and quite respectable with a flint lock revolver. He was one of the better riders among the officers of the 10th Dragoons. He is cool under pressure and can handle himself. Last, he has a commanding baritone voice that can cut through the wind.

Profession: Officer, the 10th Dragoons.
