History: Once a celebrated police officer within the Beijing Police Force, Chen Wu fell on hard times after a hostage situation did not go according to plan, causing the death of several young school children. After a lengthy investigation in which Chen Wu was cleared of any incompetence, the experience cop had seen enough to know corruption had leaked into his beloved employment but instead of fighting the rot, he chose the bottle instead. Alcohol was his escape and he found himself soon out of a job with a fairly good pension but zero self respect.
Still, the long nights in many of the city’s inhospitable bars meant Chen Wu, or the Fallen Guardian as he was nicknamed out of spite by fellow drunks, managed to get into many fights, some he won, some he lost, but all he forgot. He no longer lived, he simply existed.
But there were things that still watched Chen Wu, and had already chosen his fate for him. They were the shinma and they still thought Chen Wu had a part to play in his world. When the drunken ex-cop began to notice strange glimmers in the world around him, some of which were wicked and debased, Chen Wu could not take it anymore and felt he had to confront them. Seeking help from the strange dream-visions he had been having through his drunken stupors, Chen Wu came to understand the spirits around him and accepted the shinma’s offer, soon learning techniques he never thought possible.
