Bracers of Blood & Steel

Altered Carbon

New Member
Hi gang, I just wanted to post this artifact I came up with. If the Abyssal in my group likes it he is going to be the one who stoled them, if not Then an NPC Abyssal who is after him will have them.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to keep these balanced but powerful.

Bracers of Blood & Steel (Artifact 4)

These soulsteel bracers are a powerful item crafted by a Deathlord, for a loyal Deathknight martial artist.  Unfortunately they were stolen just by a rogue Deathknight before they had been awarded to their intended recipient.

Made of Soulsteel these bracers appear to be a very intricate set of hearthstone bracers, with a hearthstone setting on each bracer.  To function they must be worn as a pair and 5 motes of essence must be committed to the set.  They function as a set of soulsteel hearthstone bracers and also allow the wearer to parry lethal attacks without a stunt.

With the sacrifice of 5 motes of essence and one lethal health level of damage the Deathknight will bleed from his pours for the remainder of the scene.  When attacked, at the instance of impact, the blood will solidify into armor as hard as soulsteel then return again to dripping blood.  Blood is slick, so additionally the Deathknight is very hard to grapple.  He gains a +3 bonus to his dodge DV against grapples.  Furthermore he gains a +3 bonus to his resistance roll to turn the tables.  This item is compatible with all martial arts even if they prohibit the use of armor.

Seems about right for a 4 dot artifact, except I think the attunement cost is a little low. Discreet Essence Armor has an attunement cost of 5 motes and it's only a 2 dot artifact. So I think the attunement cost should be a bit higher. Otherwise, it seems fine.

But I'm not a good judge of these sorts of things, so take my comments with a grain of salt....

If you look at how Oedanol's Codex descripe a 4 dot artifact I would say it's a bit on the low side. It have a lot of effects, but none of them are in themself very powerfull. A high 3 dot, maybe with a bit higher attunement if you want. Or a low 4 dot with a lower attunement cost.
