Fandom Borderlands RP

Lord Jaraxxus

Eredar Lord of the Burning Legion
I haven't worked out any real story details, but I was wondering if there were enough people that would be interested in doing one. We could do text-based, or dice-based in the style of Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep. I love the world of the Borderlands in general and think it would be fun to create an RP based around it.

I just finished playing Borderlands 2 + the DLCs and I approve this effort. It would certainly be interesting to have an RP that included some of those beloved absurdist elements that make me love the franchise so much. Now, how to recreate the loot system...

I could just use dice to do that. It would be a fairly complex method though. It might work out better as a Dungeons and Dragons-style RP as opposed to a purely text-based.

I think that's a good idea. If we are going that far, skill trees? As your signature suggest you must be a lover of skill trees. Haha. Would we be playing pre-existent characters or creating our own in the spirit of Borderlands?

I"m not sure yet. This would all take a lot of thinking and I want to make sure people are interested. Since three people have already expressed interest, I'd say 1 more and we can start thinking about that.

I'd love to join, would we be rping Vault Hunters or just people on Pandora?

Vault Hunters. The main question right now is do people want to do text-based or dice-based with me as the DM of sorts. (I'd either DM in the character of Jack, Claptrap, or Mr. Torgue)

I express interest.

Pardon the potential double post. I would prefer a text based story, with possibly the loot system being based on dice(Possibly a d100 or higher), while everything else (meaning damage, shields and such) could be done with smaller dice. It all depends on what you desire, but then again I am not you nor do I know how this site's dice system works.

I was thinking of something similar. I found some of the loot odds online, and should be able to replicate that. My current idea is to narrate the story as Mr. Torgue, and have the group of vault hunters (minimum 4-maximum 6) go through a dungeon of sorts, containing many of the enemies and characters from the game. The loot would be based off dice, but I would leave most other things up to the players. I would take some involvement against mini-bosses and the like, but I see no need to micromanage every single bandit or varkid that shows up.

Alright seems legit. Alsmen at your service. So. If we do make our own skills trees and classes; how will it work? If it would help I can try to find some generators or programs that could help....

I'd rather not spend time worrying about giving you character +12% bullet velocity or anything like that, so I'd say just pick a couple of major enhancements to unlock when the time comes and only 1 skill tree to simplify things a bit.

Save it for when I actually make the RP. I'll get on that in a bit (working on something else at the moment), but I'll post more specifics about character sheets then.

meh, I like doing Character sheets, I'll probably be able to use some of it when the thread goes up.

I'm willing to go with the whims of the people on this one. Though I do think some level of mechanical nuance would lend itself to the Borderlands style, I would not be opposed to a purely textbased roleplay. I just think its a pretty cool idea.

If you do flesh it out I would totally repost the fleshier version. People are more likely to get on board with something that looks like its had a bit of work put into it. Depending on the number of people you want, I suppose.

We'd have to go all or nothing on the dice tbh. Like I said before, if people want to do this DnD style, that would work, but the general consensus seemed to be text-based with loot based around dice. I'll still be the dungeon master of sorts in order to advance the plot along more fluidly. I want a maximum of 6 people and a minimum of 4, and it seems like we already have around that many, so I don't think too much extra advertising would be required.
