So... here's the short prologue of the story that I'm working on. (it's complete up to Chapter 0 right now, that is the first chapter is done, as is the prologue.) It takes place in a similar world to the RP I'm GMing called After Ragnarok. Keep in mind that I started this first, and After Ragnarok is a 'spin-off' to this, one where I take a slightly different history, to see how things would be effected. If people are interested, then I'll post chapter 0 (Chapter 1) here as well, but beyond that I'll be posting both this, Chapter 0, and future chapters, elsewhere. Maybe on a Patreon while I wait to find an actual web-novel hosting service.

Book of Grimiore

Prologue...

The young maiden smiled softly at the men who had approached her just as the sun had begun to set. Her flowing black hair seeming to reflect the final rays of sunlight. Her attire seemed almost traditional, that of a Miko shrine maiden. This sight was a common one at the border village of Hyushiki, a small village just outside the forbidden zone known to the village as 'The Corrupted Zone.' A lawless land encircled this Corrupted zone, as no one single lord, lady, or deity seemed to combat against the corrupted beings that called it home. Or combat it's spread. "Heh," one of the men finally said, an older bearded man, as he pulled out a small dagger from with in his shirt. "What's such a cutie like you doing outside all by your lonesome?" He asked, as the other men surrounded her, blocking any escape. "Lookin' to get mugged?"

"Bandits?" The woman asked, as if to no one. "Indeed, I suppose they wouldn't be to smart to realize where they have stumbled into." She continued, her arms folded in front of her, a long cloth wrapped package in her left hand. The package was strapped shut by leather straps, as if to prevent it from opening.

The bandits all looked confused as she spoke, as if there was someone beside her, or hiding in the shadows. This made them look around quickly, and as no one but them, and her, could be seen the bandit leader, the older man with a beard grew angry. "Hey lady!" He said, storming over to her, grabbing her with his free hand by the cuff of her robe. "You think you'll get away with ignoring me!?" He yelled in her face, as she blankly stared away from him. "You don't know who you're..."

"Messing with?" A voice said, just off to the side as the bandit leader made a move to stab the maiden with his dagger. Though he looked confused, both as the new person spoke, and at the fact that his right arm was now strangely missing. "See Eva, I told you it would be stupid for us to be the ones that patrolled tonight. They always come out when ever someone is seen. And you've yet to master your magic." The other woman said, dressed as if she were a ninja. Something she took great pride in.

This new person gracefully landed on the ground a few seconds after she spoke, her short dress resting freely a few seconds after this. "Besides, I told you I can handle it alone Eva." She added, as her left forearm slowly return from the shape of some grotesque blade, to that of a normal arm, a small light blue tattoo of a crescent moon inlaid upon a five pointed star on the back of her palm, a mark that could also be seen on the back of her clothing, and that of the first woman's, who was named Evangeline Snow.

"That may be so Shin," Eva said, finally speaking as the bandit leader clutched where his right arm used to be, collapsing on the ground as his men gathered around him, to help. "But you know the rules. Ever since... 'He' rebelled against Hyzashi, the Lord of Realms, we work in groups of two. You very well may have the ability to do this alone, but you're not allowed to."

At this, Shin pouted a bit, as Eva, who was taller patted her on the head, as one would a small puppy. "W-wait a minute..." The bandit leader asked, as the two women turned to look at him. "You... You're... Don't tell me... You're... The Apostles!?"

"And if we are?" Shin asked him, a devious grin on her face, as her shadow began moving, to form spear tips before stabbing each of the bandits in the chest and head, killing them instantly.

And of course, the answer was indeed 'yes' to the bandits question. The two young ladies who stood above the dead bodies of the bandits where members of the elite mercenary group known as The Apostles of Hyzashi, their mark being that of a light blue crescent moon, inlaid on a five pointed star. There were many mercenary groups that resided with in the lawless area that surrounded The Corrupted Zone, many born from groups of adventurers that hoped to brave it. One such group was in fact The Apostles, a group that now took on any job, be it assassinations, to guarding small villages just outside the corruption.
