Blood and Water (♠ Blue Suit ♠)

Joachim only gave a happy rumble and closed his eyes to sleep. Tome dumped the bathwater into the grass, cleaned the basin as he was supposed to, and put it aside to dry, then followed the others back to the boarding building and took a bath, changing into new clothes, then finally made his way back towards the room. Hopefully Joachim would be good and sleep well for them today. He knew Mia needed a rest.

((Should we do it now?))

((Yeeeeep . . . I don't know why I included all those unnecessary Es. I blame cough medicine and boredom O_O))

(Oh, are you any better? How's the cold?)

Should have been really sleepy Mia thought to herself with a soft smile as she stepped into the room and realized Joachim had already drifted off. Laying him down gently on the bed, she couldn't help it but yawn at the mere sight of him sleeping so peacefully. "You sure cause a lot of trouble even though you're so small" She muttered to the baby as she rubbed his belly lightly so as not to wake him. "Left him all wet and dirty" Her gaze softened and a warmer smile settled on her lips "He won't get mad though" And she knew he wouldn't, not at that, not at Joachim. Sighing softly she ran a hand through her hair while she glanced back at the door and, after not finding any 'threat', she looked back at Joachim "It seems I really fell in love with Tome" It was the first time she admitted it out loud and even thought she was simply 'confessing' it to the baby her face acquired the sweetest and most innocent shade of pink.

((I feel better now :) Just can't stop coughing, so another night of no work so I don't hack in people's faces -_- The person that answered when I called into work recommended Delsym so I'm trying that. Works decently enough))

It wasn't Tome's fault he always walked in silence. He'd been trained for that, when he was young, and it had become habit afterwards because it helped keep him out of trouble. That habit hadn't faded, so when he heard Mia's voice and stopped in the hallway he didn't think she'd heard him. She was just talking, as if to no one. He won't get mad, though. She said, and he frowned a bit as he tried to hear if someone else was in the room, and if he should walk away and let them talk, but she continued before he could say anything to that affect, and his eyes went wide. It seems I really fell in love with Tome. . .

Silent and hesitant, he turned on his heel, then left quickly down the stairs and went out into the crisp air of the afternoon. He needed to think.

(Ooo and doesn't that one make you sleepy?)

As if driven by something, Mia quickly looked back again and even stood up to check on the hallway. She had panicked for a moment but the relief was almost even painful at the sight of no one. It wouldn't be good if he found out. Though some side of her did want for him to, the other, however, was too coward. "Things are better that way" She mumbled under her breath while she rubbed the back of her neck lightly and rturned ti Joachim's side.

((No, I'm just a big dork sometimes and now that I'm taking cough medicine I can blame it on that :P ))

Tome stood outside the building, pressed up against a wall, and looked for all the world like he'd seen a ghost. He stayed there for much too long, sat on the ground and just tried to think, tried to puzzle through the logic in his mind, things he hadn't questioned for a good deal of time. Malia found him, after a while, looking worn from a day of work but smiling as if she weren't tired, and she sat down next to him in the grass and talked to him. Somehow, he found himself telling her, about his misgivings with his sense of self-worth, because of his race, and what he'd overheard, what he'd thought he wasn't supposed to hear. He didn't know why, he just . . . talked to her. And she listened quietly, and consoled him a bit but didn't offer much advice. It was his decision, she explained. No one could decide what he felt for him. Not anymore.

((Sorry, dinner))

(Mother and son time! :3)

Mia found herself going to sleep soon after she had been done 'talking' to Joachim. She felt absolutely worn out and was itching to get some sleep. She didn't know she had been heard and as such, she could still feel relatively calm.

(S'Okay! I'm gonna eat mine now ^^)

Tome stayed sitting with Malia for a long while before he finally got up, knowing he'd been out for too long and that Mia might worry. Malia said she was going to wash up and rest a bit, so he let her go and headed inside, only to find Mia sleeping with Joachim curled up against her chest. He smiled faintly, laid down on his own bed, and just let them be. They looked peaceful together, and they were safe here, so he wanted to leave them that way. He could stand a few moments of rest for himself.

((Midday? Early afternoon-ish? I dunno, that's just where I plopped it so Joachim could have a nap, but if you want it to be night we can do that too lol))

(No, no. It's okay ^^ I was just a bit lost. Midday is just fine)

The sun was soon to start to set on the horizon when Mia pried her eyes open. Looking down at the small ball curled up against her chest, she smiled a bit as she quietly and gently scrambled to her feet. A yawn escaped her lips as she intertwined her hands together and raised them above her head to stretch. Automatically, she glanced to her side where Tome's bed was, and her smile turned a bit softer as she found him resting there. With him and Joachim asleep, she guessed that was her cue to run her errands.

Quietly, as quietly as she could, she left the room and headed over to the stairs to go outside. With the mild breeze of the afternoon blowing against her face and brushing her hair out of her face she let a content sigh leave her lips as she walked over to where she remembered was the entrance to the place. Days had gone by and she had forgotten to buy what she had been meaning to buy all along, could take the time to do so while everyone rested. The sky had a pretty color and she guessed the sun will soon go down.

Tome woke, briefly, at the faint sounds of motion, but didn't get up. He did open his eyes, though, when Joachim got cold enough to wake up and started to whine. It was only little noises, at first, and Tome was just beginning to look over when the small dragon tumbled himself off the bed to land with a thump on the floor. He was completely silent, for a moment, then started to cry so loud it almost hurt Tome's ears. Tome scrambled quickly over to where the little dragon was lying and picked him up, cradling him gently and shushing him while checking for injuries. Nothing seemed hurt, but probably sore, and Joachim just kept crying. It was only a minute or so of futile efforts and a few interested eyes glancing into the room that he realized something else was wrong. Mia was gone, and she'd been gone when Joachim woke up. Great. Now Tome was going to have to find her, or he would never stop.

Unaware of what was going on back at the Dragonry, Mia walked down the streets to where she had been told the market was located. There were some people going here and there and she could tell that even at that time of the day things had to be quite busy over there, but she was grateful that it was not as packed as that other town had been. Without any trouble or distraction, she found just what she was looking for and, after having paid for it, she felt quite happy while she held her purchase to her side. Without hurrying, and at her own pace, she started to make her way back as she curiously ran her eyes over her surroundings.

Tome had to hurry through the Dragonry asking if anyone had seen Mia, cradling Joachim carefully to his shoulder with the little dragon crying in his ear the entire time. It was a little startling, realizing how much noise could come out of such a small package. Arius finally found him when he was on his way out, following the sound of Joachim's screams after every adult dragon in the vicinity started staring at Tome like they were wondering if they should save Joachim. They at least recognized him from the previous days, and Tome was glad for that, and the fact that Arius flew ahead to look for Mia. Tome continued on foot, asking people for help as he left the Dragonry to see if they'd seen her, and trying to shush Joachim along the way. This was not going well.

It was not until she was nearer to the Dragonry that she got the first hint that something was not going as well as she believed. "The poor baby, he wouldn't stop crying" Those words, and God would know why, caught Mia's attention and she immediately slowed her pace while she tried to overhear the conversation that was going on between two ladies "I know! Does that elf man really know how to take care of it? It was being quite desperate" Oh, don't tell me that... Brows scrunching together Mia quickened her steps.

Tome was just beginning to think he would never find Mia when someone finally gave him a better clue, and he set off again to look for her, Joachim beginning to show signs of tiring finally. Tome didn't think he would stop just because he was tired, but it would help lower his volume at least. Tome just wanted him to stop being so sad. He had to find Mia, so Joachim would know she hadn't left or been stolen.

It was not until she found a couple talking about the same thing that she approached them to ask about it. Oh dear lord it was Tome and it was Joachim. But they couldn't be too far way since the couple had just seen them. This time, she rushed through the streets to find them both. And while he looked for her, she looked for them as well.

It felt like it took ages and everyone was staring but finally Tome caught sight of a familiar head and jogged after until he could finally catch her by the shoulder. "Mia!" He pulled Joachim gently away from his shoulder to point the little dragon towards her, worried. "Look, look," He urged, gently but loud enough to be heard. "She's right here. She's right here, it's okay. You don't have to cry, she's right here." Joachim's screeches died down, gradually, and he looked at Mia with big, mournful eyes when he finally opened them enough to see her, wriggling his limbs towards her to try and reach her so she would hold him. Tome gave her a concerned look, wanting her to take Joachim so the baby could feel better. "He woke up and you were gone, so he got scared. . ."

"I.. I'm sorry" It took her by surprise and the only thing she could do was to apologize. Watching how Joachim was trying to reach her, she immediately held out her hands to take him on her arms and softly rubbed her forehead against his "I'm here, little one, it's okay" She told him softly while she cradled him gently "I didn't think he'd wake up anytime soon" She admitted out loud as she lifted her head to face Tome "Sorry"

Tome just shook his head, sighing in relief and running a hand through his hair. "I just wanted him to stop being afraid." He hadn't cared so much about the crying as the reason for the crying. Joachim made quiet whimper-y noises and curled up against Mia to feel her warmth, tail curling around her arm to hold on tight. "I think - I think maybe next time it will be best to wake him and tell him you're going somewhere, or at least lay him with me before you leave."

She just didn't want to wake them up. God, she had done more bad then good. "Yeah..." Petting Joachim softly she sighed "I won't be as careless next time" She hadn't really thought about it before. Like really what did it mean to have Joachim, she could've sworn that as long as Tome was there the baby wouldn't need to worry.

Tome shook his head and just gave Joachim a comforting little stroke, then waved a bit for Mia to start walking with him back towards the Dragonry. "Neither of us could've known that would happen. Let's just go back." He paused, looking at her. "Unless, you still had something you needed to do?" She had to have had a task in mind to leave so suddenly while he was sleeping. He would go back on his own if it was some sort of secret, but if she was done he just wanted to go back where people would stop looking at them like he'd hurt poor Joachim.
