Blood and Water (♠ Blue Suit ♠)

Tome flinched and shifted his weight every time either of them touched or otherwise hurt Mia, but he couldn't do anything about it. There were still men watching his every move, and still a knife at her throat and he just - couldn't. He couldn't risk her dying. If she was a little hurt, he could heal her, but he couldn't lose her.

At the offer, Tome turned a sharp gaze on the man Mia had bit, a tiny shred of pride glowing in his chest because she'd managed to hurt him and seemed more disgusted than afraid. "You can't have her. She's legally mine and not for sale." It was technically true, since the paper he'd given her claiming her freedom had been destroyed when she went on her self-destructive rampage. "Harm her any further and I will see you hung for destruction of my property."

Mia's eyes found their way to Tome's face. My property... Sadly, it seemed that it didn't matter if she had stopped being a slave, she was still an object. For that man in front of him and... and for that other man she had come to cherish. It felt as if something sank on her heart. Still, she would always prefer to go with Tome rather than with Abraham.

"Well isn't that inconvenient?" Abraham's gaze darkened as he straightened. "I own this girl. In every way. Legally, I'm also his master. The fact that she escaped does not mean she's no longer mine. Don't be stupid and tell me a price"

Tome's gaze hardened and he shook his head. "I don't have a price. I've no need of your money, and she is rightfully mine. . . Even if she weren't, I won't let you have her." He'd been drawing a pattern on the side of his leg where his hand rested unseen, writing a sigil against his clothing, and finally utilized it. He used that small bit of magic to wrap around the knife the soldier was holding to Mia's throat, and to toss it far to the side. Using the distraction, he made a dash for the man and clocked him clear across the jaw, then spun as the man fell and landed a kick to his temple that would keep him out of the fight for a good while.

Skidding to a stop, Tome pulled Mia behind him, confident there was no one else there anymore to try and sneak up on her, and faced the man in front of him with a glare. "The price is my head," He growled, "Because I'll die before I give her to you."

It all happened to fast for her to process it, but she didn't need to. As soon as Mia felt Tome in front of her, one side of her inevitably relaxed and with shaky hands she reached for the edge of his shirt, clutching it weakly. Because he was there, she could allow herself to calm down even a bit.

Abraham blinked, clearly surprised. If it hadn't been for his pride, he would've ran away as the coward he really was. Instead, his whole face turned red "Very well then. I'll have your head and her" He hissed and his two remaining men, charged against Tome.

It was perhaps one of the only times he was grateful for the way he was raised, rather than accepting. He had fought and won six men before, when he was twelve years old, and he'd continued to defeat odds like that as he matured. Trained how to lose and how to win. Two men were nothing.

They came at him wrong, with one slightly ahead of the other, and it gave him an even greater chance of winning. The first man's blade he knocked aside with his own, pulling out of Mia's grip but not moving far away, and slammed a fist into the man's throat. He went down with a crushed windpipe even as the second swept a blade at Tome, but Tome dodged the blow, caught the man's wrist, and dragged him forward enough to headbutt the man hard enough to drop him, dizzy and reeling, to his knees. Tome caught him by the chin and the hair even as he fell, and a swift twist dropped the man to the ground.

With three men lying around them, one unconscious, one dead, and one struggling for enough breath to continue living, Tome turned a deadly gaze on the coward in front of him. "If you aim to kill, you'd best be ready to die."

Mia had gasped a little when Tome had gotten out of her grip and just watched him fight absentmindedly. Her nerves were wrecked and, as a small child, as soon as Tome was done fighting she reached blindly for his shirt again. This time she held to it a bit tighter. Because he was there with her and had saved her again. For that she was grateful.

Abraham went pale when Tome's gaze laid on him. The once confident man staggered back and even stumbled as he so clumsily tried to run away. "Y-You can have her! She's just a sl*t I didn't want her either way." With his hands he tried to scoot back "Please do have her my lord. Now that she has grown, I don't want her anymore"

Tome's gaze hardened and his grip tightened around the knife in his hand, but when he moved towards the man he did so slowly, so that he would pull Mia with him rather than loosing her hands from where they'd tangled in his clothing. "Child lover." He hissed, and it disgusted him to his core, thinking of someone that looked at children - someone that could have looked at his Fawn, were she here anymore - and felt . . . He couldn't bear thinking it.

"Give me a reason!" He stalked closer, ready to throw his blade should the man try to run. "Tell me why I shouldn't cut you to pieces and leave your body for the strays!" Dogs and cats had always roamed, though not in particularly large numbers. Even a whelp of a man like this would feed them for a good long while.

Abraham yelped when Tome took slow steps towards him and he froze on the spot. His lips quivered and parted but pronounced no words. He couldn't think of any. He desperately skimmed his eyes around the square and though he knew they had caught some villagers attention, he knew they wouldn't intervene. "S-She wanted it!" He finally stammered. If it was the child lover thing, the one that bothered him, he could excuse himself with that "I swear, I swear she was the one who begged me" His breathing quickened, but he even dared to raise his head and look for Mia's face with a small smile "Dear, tell him. How you pleaded to be with me. To work with me. I took you in. Please"

Mia couldn't bear to look at him but something within her forced her to raise her gaze to look at the man in the ground. She felt disgusted by what he said and didn't say anything in response. Instead, her grip around Tome's shirt tightened and she didn't know if it was because of disgust, rage or even fear. "Tell him!" Abraham finally snapped, losing his patience.

Tome drew closer as the man spoke, and his rage boiled over as they reached the man on the ground, as the man's voice turned angry and demanding instead of pleading. He dropped to a kneel with his on the man's thigh, holding him down, and placed the tip of his knife just above the man's belt. "No one will ever want you," He hissed, "Especially not a child. . . But no matter." He pressed the knife down just enough for the man to feel it's tip pressing against his waist through the fabric between them. "I'll make sure you can never want them either."

((Gtg bye!))

Mia was seriously frightened by the blood curdling screams that made their way out of Abraham's mouth over and over again. "Tome! Tome the soldiers are coming. Let's go. You've got to stop it" Mia said in a barely audible voice. He had killed a man already, hurt two others, if they caught him injuring another one, there'd be trouble. She tugged on him and glanced back over her shoulder as the soldiers made their way through the crowd of people. She heard their loudly spoken orders and couldn't help but wonder why hadn't they come before "Let's go" Trying to pull him away, she repeated.

Even if it was Abraham the man Tome was to punish, she would rather have him and her going away than having him being apprehended by those men.

(Bye! c: Have a nice day!)

It was easy, really, to block out the screams he didn't want to hear, to shove a hand over the man's mouth and keep him pinned until Tome had done what he had set out to do. He wasn't quite done but sure the damage was sufficient enough to castrate the man when Mia started pulling at him and speaking hurriedly, and he glanced to find the situation at hand. With a few muttered words, he dropped the knife and swept out his bloodied hand, and a thin smoke filled the space between them and the soldiers, enough to cover a quick escape. After that, they were running.

Mia stopped for a bit when they were far enough for her to consider it was okay to take a pause. She breathed in and out, in and out while she tried to catch her breath. Really... She needed to be a bit more athletic. "The herbs..." It was the only thing she managed to mutter after a while "I... I lost the herbs" Rubbing her shaky hands together, she glanced around as if she was hoping to find the lost purchased things "I'm sorry" And she was, she really was sorry for the commotion.

((So today I chased after an ice cream with my friend xD We took advantage of the pool after finally unpacking and putting away all her random crap in her room, and we kept hearing the ice cream truck music while we were there so we're both like "D: Ice cream. . ." And then, we finally saw it in the apartment complexes' parking lot, and finally decided to run back to her place, grab our wallets, and go get ice cream, but it was gone. So we spent like five minutes running around soaking wet, in our bathing suits and trashed hair and bare feet, and finally spotted it in the apartment complex next to her, which was on the other side of the fence, and had to run out to the street and around to get to it - but we got our ice cream and it was amazing! xD But my swim shorts were a bit damp still, and one of my thighs is chafed so I am now sitting around my room in my underwear so nothing touches it for as long as possible :( Still worth it! lol Such a fun day ^_^ ))

Tome stood aside, watching for anyone that might have followed, and only shook his head. "We will find them some other day." He said, fingers curling in and out at his side. He had lost the instinct to hold a bloodied hand away from his clothes, and one side of his leg was brushed a bit with the red slowly drying on his skin. ". . . Let's go back home."

(Sounds like it was! Ice cream *¬* It is always worth anything! Lol, that's mine and our sister motto xD Now I want some... :( )

Mia raised her head and nodded slowly. She also managed to stop her shaking, though her heart was still hammering loudly and adrenaline flooded her blood. A bit sheepishly, she reached to tug on his arm softly "Are you okay, Tome?" In a quiet voice, she finally asked.

((I actually got a popsicle, since it was a bit less messy and we intended to go back and sit by the pool lol But ice cream is always worth it!))

Tome, still watching and distracted and distant, flinched a little when she touched him, but didn't strike out. He looked down at her. "I wasn't hurt." They'd threatened him but hadn't hurt him. He turned to her and tilted her chin up a bit with his clean hand. "Here, hold still. I'll heal it for you."

(Ooo Which flavor? c:)

Heal it? Heal what? Mia thought to herself before the pain shot down her spine. It took her by surprise, so she couldn't help it but wince. "Ouch" She let out in a low whisper. Staring at him in the eyes, two pair of blue orbs met some golden ones. With a light nod, she also closed her eyes.

((I got a sour cherry popsicle that was only a little sour but still good, and then this little carton of sour slushy stuff that was actually sour. All for three dollars! I was very happy with this purchase lol))

Tome whispered soft, practiced words, and the muscle around his eyes tightened at the painful drain of energy of just the simple healing spell he knew, but he healed her anyway and took her hand when it was done, pulling her carefully along. "Come on. Let's get the horses and go." She wasn't in any danger now, and he was glad for that.

(Cherry! I love cherries!! Really good purchase indeed XP)

Was it the third time he had performed magic on her? Either way... It kind of always felt nice. Nice and warm. When he took hold of her hand and pulled her along with him, she pried her eyes open and followed. Ah, it did feel different from that other hand she had mistaken from his. It was big, rough but she liked that roughness. It matched him. Because even with that, it was also warm. Softly, she curled her fingers around his hand before reaching for it with her other hand. Holding him with both of her hands, she allowed him to guide her back to the horses.

Tome let Mia hold on to him, with at least the presence of mind to try and hide his other hand from most people's views. He got her up on her horse, untied the animals, and swung up onto his, then led her back towards home. He just wanted to be back, where he was away from the commotion and suspicion here, and where he could piece together what he had learned this day. He didn't like the conclusions he was coming to. He wished he'd had time to do worse to that man.

Mia slid down her horse as soon as they were back. There... There she felt safe. Breathing in deeply she took off her horse saddle and allowed him to go away. She didn't have to worry about things from the past anymore. Pushing it to one side of her mind, keeping it locked on the box it had been hiding on all along. If she didn't think about it, it was not as painful. "Would you like some tea?" Turning her head to one side, she asked loud enough for Tome to hear her.

Tome thought Mia probably hadn't noticed, since he'd been in the lead on the way home, but he'd nearly fallen asleep atop his horse several times before they arrived. He took his own saddle off quickly, letting the horse go free and just going inside ahead of her so he could wash up. He cleaned his hands, changed his clothes, and flopped down onto the sitting room couch just before she came inside. Still, he was nearly asleep by the time spoke, and only mumbled a noncommittal sound into a pillow in response. He'd used too much magic, on top of the other, lighter exertions. He needed sleep.

Mia blinked. Oh... She better be quiet then. Smiling softly, she didn't speak up again. Instead, she quietly slid into the kitchen and poured herself some water to drink. After being done with it, she silently set the glass down before washing it and hanging it. Sleep... Maybe it'd be better if she did that too. With a soft sigh, she left the kitchen.

Tome woke some hours later, on the floor with a leg still thrown haphazardly up on the couch. He wasn't quite sure how falling hadn't woken him, but nothing else seemed wrong so he disregarded it and sat up carefully to look around. Some part of him hoped he'd just dreamed all of it.

Mia, who had been gazing out from the sitting room's window absently, threw a glance over her shoulder when she heard Tome moving. Her hair was wet again and mainly, it had been because she had decided to take a shower again. It had been an strange impulse which had been caused by the fact she had started to feel dirty for no apparent reason, to a point she couldn't bear it if she didn't take a bath. "Hey..." She said softly, turning on his heels "Hasn't anyone told you, you can sleep like a log?" She had tried to help him up on the couch again, but he was sleeping so soundly, she had to give up being it that she couldn't possibly support his weight on her own.

Tome blinked a little groggily at her and rubbed his eyes to clear them, shaking his head. ". . . Never sleep that hard." He mumbled, shifting enough to stretch out his arms and legs. "Always have to sleep light." But . . . But his reason for that was gone, wasn't she? He tried not to let the hurt become so overwhelming all over again, but it was hard.
