Blood and Water (♠ Blue Suit ♠)

Tome shifted his feet a little on the floor, waiting for her to wash her dishes as he ate, then finally walked over to do his own as well. Small, everyday tasks he could do. He could manage that much. He had to, or he would never do anything again. ". . . When will you go?" He asked as he scrubbed the plate clean. He wasnt sure if he was ready today, but when would he ever be? Sooner or later, he would have to leave the house again.

Mia glanced at him from the corner of her eye before locking back up, at the ceiling "How about tomorrow?" She suggested as she hung her plate. That day was kind of late anyway and she wasn't actually in a rush. Just wanted to go out a bit as well.

Tome only nodded and dried his plate with a towel, setting it aside where it would air dry the rest of the way, then drained his glass of water and washed that as well. The chill was gone, but though his body felt warm he couldn't quite get his mind to wrap around that and accept it. Some part of him wanted to be cold, to be uncomfortable and unhealthy, to punish him for his failings. He didn't think that part of him would go away for a long, long time.

Mia nodded and turned to look at him "Are you any bit warmer now?" She asked. The color had returned to his skin, that was for sure, but she wasn't really sure. In a way, she really did want to take care of him, maybe that was just the way she was. She intertwined her fingers together on top of her lap as she waited for his response.

Tome nodded as he dried his hands, looking at them for perhaps too long before putting the towel away and moving to leave the room, to sit somewhere end rest a bit more. "It was only a chill." He said, even though he knew he'd let himself get too cold for this time of year, with winter beginning its slow approach. The leaves were beginning to fall from the trees, and he only stopped at a window to watch a while.

Mia glanced at him for a bit before she sighed noiselessly, the house was somewhat a bit too quiet. Sad, there was no other thing to do. In a way, she wanted the next they to come soon. If he didn't need her and there were no other chores to be done inside the house, there would be no problem on her leaving, would it? She stretched her arms a bit and headed to the back door, slipping outside silently.

Tome started to tell her to wait, to call her back and just . . . just . . . say something. But he didn't. He couldn't. He was incapable of such things, always had been and was only worse now. When she had gone and the door closed behind her, he drifted around the house as if it were unfamiliar, running his hands over things he wasn't sure he wanted to get rid of and feeling lost in a place he should have known from top to bottom. He stopped when he reached the piano, ghosting his fingers lightly over the keys, pressing one gently down until it made the faintest of sounds the instrument was capable of. He touched another, a softer, higher note, and then just stood, listening to its vibrations fade through the room. He wasn't sure which need was stronger - the desire to play, or the desire never to sit here again and remember who he would always play for.

Mia had stopped on her heels when she heard a faint piano note and she looked back at the house. She slowly turned around and with quiet steps she walked back to the sitting room's window. She peeked inside the house from there and saw Tome standing right by the marvelous instrument. Was he gonna play? She... She kinda hoped he did, for she liked his playing. So she stood there, glancing silently from the outside while her hands gripped the frame absently.

Tome ran his fingers over the keys, and it felt as if a lifetime of memories would push him down into the earth. A lifetime of playing - of learning to play - for a small, sickly child. He sat on the bench to keep from falling, and imagined her still sitting right there at his side, leaning light and not quite warm enough against his side. Her fingers curled 'round his arm as he touched the first notes. It was easy. It was automatic. His fingers drifted slowly over the keys, played one of the songs that would always make her close her eyes and smile even though it was sad. There's beauty in sadness, she'd said to him once. If you know how to look. Maybe he would just have to start looking harder. He would just have to try to see the world through her eyes, like he never had before.

((

love this song :) ))

Mia couldn't hold back a small smile and with care and silence she pulled the window open. With a quiet sigh, she wrapped both of her arms on the window frame, resting her chin on top of them. He must be thinking about Fawn She thought to herself as she absently stared at his back, her gaze drifting to his moving fingers from time to time. She really did like the way he played, he reminded her of her mom. It was so sweet, yet so sad. So, so sad. It made her long for the days she played by her side. Two people, one heart, four hands, one melody Wasn't that so?

((Sorry! Thought I replied. I like sad songs too :) especially on violin and/or piano. Such beautiful instruments. Though, the cello is really cool too))

Tome played the quiet, sorrowful song through to its end, and sat still even as the last note faded slowly into nothing. ". . . You don't have to hover outside, you know." He said quietly, fingers playing lightly over the keys but not quite making a sound, only caressing the ivory pieces. "You can come in." He wasnt going to make her stay out so he could play alone. He had no illusions that she hadnt heard. If she was going to listen, she may as well come in and be comfortable. And perhaps, a small part of his mind added, keep him company.

(Indeed it is ^^ Though I don't listen cello myself my boyfriend does a lot :> Although piano will forever be my favorite instrument)

Mia raised her eyebrow when he spoke and as if it had been an order, with a nod and the help of both of her hands she pushed herself up, climbing inside by the window. She slowly made her way to the piano and, stopping by its side, she glanced at Tome "Would you play another song?" She asked. Sad or happy, she still wanted to listen to it.

Tome glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, looked at the piano, and finally gave a slight nod. He tapped a few keys lightly, thinking of what to play next, and shifted a bit in his seat when he'd decided. It was a happier song, and one Fawn had liked, so he played it to see if he could give the house back it's light.

Mia smiled a bit to herself and leaned forward, resting both of her elbows on top of the piano lightly. She closed her eyes and just enjoyed his music, her fingers moving from time to time as she imagined how would it be like to play the melody, guessing the notes.

(I don't know how, but I always really like the songs you find =) )

((Because I have brilliant taste in music? :3))

Tome stopped when the song was over, and after a while glanced at Mia's hands. ". . . Do you want to play?" She'd been moving her fingers half the time, like she wanted to touch the keys herself. He would move, if he had to.

((Gtg. Back later before work))

(Lol, You have indeed my friend x3)

Mia blinked before she looked at him and her cheeks flushed with a sweet pink color. She curled her fingers and nodded. She had a request though, a whim perhaps. For sure, she'd be happy if he agreed to fulfill it, but wouldn't be angry nor upset if he did not, just a bit... disappointed. "Would you mind playing with me?" For the song she'd just recalled needed a extra pair of hands.

('Kay ^^)

Tome looked at her, confused, and only shifted aside to make room for her on the bench. "I . . . I've never . . . played it with someone before." Fawn had never had the strength for it, though she'd always wanted to learn. Anyone else hadn't dared to sit so close to him, if they'd even known about his love for the instrument at all.

"There's always a first time" Mia declared and even smiled, encouraged by his actions. She softly let herself fall down on the bench and placed her hands lightly on top of the keys. "I really wanted to play with you" She allowed herself to admit. Yeah, he played beautifully and she was sure that he'd be able to follow her lead on that song and make it as his as it was hers. "Ready?" She glanced at him.

((Sorry my replies have been so slow. A lots been going on lately with my overwhelming uber-increase in work hours, one of my friends being forced to quickly find a new house to live in, and my little cousin and another little kid I know being sick. Sometimes I just don't have time, or I'm not in the right mind frame for replying -_- ))

Tome tilted his head a bit to the side, frowning slightly. "What song are we to play?" He wasnt sure he could play with her if he didnt know what he was supposed to be doing. Was he supposed to improvise and just accompany her?

(Oh no, it's totally ok, I understand. Real life first! Always!)

"Eh... I don't really know its name" Mia's brows furrowed until they matched his frown "Would you mind to improvise?" She didn't want to get him uncomfortable and if he refused well... She could try on her own.

Tome considered the idea of it and finally just shook his head. "I don't mind. I can't guarantee anything about how it will sound." It could turn out decently well, or it could sound like dying animals attacking each other. The second was probably the more viable option.

Mia's scowl melted into a smile and she nodded "It's okay. Either way would be fine" She declared and it was true. Perhaps she was just a little bit too happy that he didn't seem to dislike her keeping him company that had triggered her wish to play with him. He had always seem so hard to approach, that even if sometimes she felt at home there, she also felt like a stranger. Didn't mean he had open up to her now, but it was enough for her she guessed. It also helped her to think about much nicer things than the recent events. She breathed in softly before she allowed her hands, which were itching with the desire to play, dance on the keys. It was a nice song, it gave enough space to improvise as well, that was what her mother had taught her, as they always seemed to play it differently each time they played together. Be it that is sounded horribly or beautifully, she would enjoy it nonetheless.

(This is it! *^*)

Tome stayed still, for the first part of the song, watching her hands and listening and picturing the music in his head, before he finally started to pluck at the keys, to mix in sounds with the changing rhythm of the song until it became something resembling music. It wasnt horrible, and it wasnt a masterpiece, but it was pleasant and it was theirs and he'd never really shared many things before, not like this. He'd never really had anything to share. He'd hardly even shared his home with her before this.

A smile slipped into Mia's lips as Tome's music merged with her own. Perhaps she was indeed being conceited but it wouldn't hurt if she allowed herself to believe that in that small amount of time they were finally sharing something, right? That in a way... In a way he was not pushing her aside or turning her down. Actually, she really liked him. Him and Fawn had been for her something that resembled a family the most. Mia cared for him and at least as they played that song together she wanted to imagine that maybe, just maybe he cared for her too, at least a bit would be enough.
