Blood and Water (♠ Blue Suit ♠)

((I work at Target. I stock shelves and do this thing called "zoning" where we go through at night and make sure everything looks pretty and is where it's supposed to be. I also cashier sometimes, but I hate cashiering shifts so I rarely get them))

In the morning, Tome awoke with light stabbing into his eyes, but hardly turned away from it. What did make him pause was the fact that he had a blanket now that he couldn't remember having before, and he set it aside before walking to the bathroom. He did get nauseas enough to throw up, but didn't lag there when he had nothing left in his stomach, just cleaned out his mouth and bathed quickly and efficiently, then came back out to wake up Mia. He might be bruised, ill, and feeling like someone had banged on his head with a hammer, but she had to get up and wash quickly so they could get moving now. They were wasting daylight.

((I'm gonna go sleep it off now. Night!))

(Oo I see. Target is the one with the red logo right? Lol sorry for the question, had never gone there myself xD )

Mia had felt like pushing Tome away when he tried to wake her up. Nevertheless, she obediently and half-sleep stood up from the couch and dragged her feet to the bathroom. She felt stiff, maybe it had been because she had slept on that small couch all curled up. She washed quickly and in no time she was already out and ready. Somehow she didn't want to reach Ladavia just yet, but she kept on telling herself it all was for Fawn's sake "How are you feeling?" She finally asked. Was he hungover? Funnily enough, Mia couldn't really tell.

(Hope you had a good sleep! ^^)

((Oh gosh darn it! >_< Why didn't you tell me it was my turn? I thought it was yours for some reason!))

Tome just shook his head and gathered their things, making sure nothing was left behind. "As expected." He said, because he had expected to feel like he had bashed his skull against stone and to feel as if his stomach would rebel any moment. It was almost good, though. The pain would help him focus if he got too tired, so he wasn't going to do anything to stop it. "We'll leave as soon as you're ready to go. If we must, we'll eat on the road." They could walk long enough for her to eat, then get on the horse and go.

(Oh! Sorry! >:( I didn't even noticed that! I'm on Cancun right now and will be returning home tomorrow, so I hadn't even logged in)

"Ok, I'm ready. If I'm not wrong, it'll only take us about one or two more days to get there, if we don't stop much" Mia commented and picked her hair up this time. So it was like... She had heard the road to the village they were supposed to reach was dangerous. Oh well, she hadn't gone through that road for a while, so maybe they would get to Ladavia without facing any trouble.

((lol That's all right, I just hate feeling like I'm forgetting people :( But if you were busy it's all good. Hope it was fun ^_^ ))

Tome nodded, gathering their things and heading out immediately, paying the innkeeper on the way. "I don't plan to make many stops." He said, and angled towards the stables for their horse. They would continue as they had before, riding hard until they couldn't and sleeping only when it was too dark to carry on. They were going to save time anywhere they could, regardless of consequences. He had to find out what that thing was, and where it was going.

(It was! I'm sad it's ended tho :( Got to swim with sharks and dolphins ^o^)

"I'm okay with that" Mia said as she stopped in front of her horse and patted it softly on the snout "Will it be okay for you though? Or does your metabolism help you with your hangover as well?" She asked as she pushed herself up on the horse.

Tome saddled the horse and got up first, helping her on behind him and beginning to guide the horse out. "You don't have to worry about my efficiency. I learned to ignore pain long ago." He had the fresher mark on his shoulder to remind him of that, as if he could have forgotten.

"Again with that. I don't worry about your efficiency. I worry about your health" Mia said as she rolled her eyes, taking the rains with both of her hands. Why the heck was it that he considered it all in terms of that? She was worrying about him as a person not as a... tool or warrior or anything like that.

((I'm gonna go play Zelda, then go to bed. Night!))
Tome shook his head. "My health isn't an issue. I'm fine. I've gone through more rigorous travel than this before, with worse conditions to travel in." As in, it had been a massive rainstorm, and he'd been bleeding heavily from one leg. He'd nearly died that time, but he was never allowed to die. If he died, he couldn't be made to feel pain anymore.

"Right... And that makes this less painful" She couldn't stop herself from saying. She did her best to hide the sarcastic tone though. Even if one had gone through lot of painful things, she was of those who believed that each experience was as painful as the other. Just that... some learned to ignore the pain, they try to at least. Lord, she just hoped they'd find Fawn soon, if not she didn't know what Tome would keep on doing. Somehow she couldn't help it but think of him as a bit of a self-destrictive person, didn't mean he actually was one, of coirse.

Tome nearly stopped the horse from moving, and was glad they were out of the town so he could speak as he wished. "You think I'm worried about pain?" He snapped, voice harsh but not quite loud yet. "My life is pain. Pain doesn't matter - the only thing that matters is her." If anything, pain was clarity. If he was in pain, it meant he had a goal to work towards.

((I love your sig ^_^ It reminds me of this xD ))

Mia sighed, it seemed as if she was always making him angry again "I don't think you're worried about pain, I think you should be worried about it" She argued, a bit upset. All that snapping and attitude was really beginning to get her mad.

(Lol! When I saw that I was like. Tom Hiddleston *¬* For a while, until I finally read the "Guess which one is british" thingy xD )

((Tom Hiddleston!!! X3 Another Hiddlestoner! God I love him . . .

I saw that and I stared at it for a while, wondering what the joke was, but then I'm like "O_O Oh. Oh my god he's drinking tea xD You British chap, you.))

"If it's not going to kill me," He snapped back, with a sense of finality to it, "Then there's no reason to worry about it." He kicked the horse into a run after that, and planned to ignore any further attempts at 'conversation'. She just didn't understand, and she never would. Pain was just life. So long as it didn't keep him from getting to his sister, he could ignore it until the end of time.

(^w^! He's one of my favorite actors! When he appeared on the avengers I was like OMG It's Tom Hiddleston! Then I saw a post where someone had said that the avengers were the only reason why most women had watched the movie. Me: Nu-uh! If speaking about men I'd be all over Tom! xD )

(Yeah, I know what you mean xD At first I was like, Tom is the british one! Obviously! I love his voice and accent! Then I was like "Ooo! He's drinking tea!" I have something for british guys x3)

Mia huffed a bit but for the moment, she didn't try to broach the subject again. If she did, he would end up leaving her behind. Hell! It wouldn't even surprise her if he tied her to a tree. Well, not quite. But that was the point. He'd have to hear her sooner or later and his attitude would not stop her from speaking. He just thought she didn't understand, blah blah blah. It was not like that, how troublesome getting him to understand it.

((I don't remember if I'd seen him before Avengers. Maybe I did, I don't know. In Thor, definitely lol but that's a given. I've been trying to find more stuff with him in it, but mostly I just watch his interview :3 God I love his voice. And he's gorgeous @.@ British people have the best accents))

((I feel like maybe we should skip to either the town they're going to, or just finding the monster :( I know it's fast, but it's like, what else are we going to do besides pointless travel scenes?))

(I agree! His voice is just so... I don't know, I just love it! Well I'd seen two series with him in them before he starred on Thor. They're called Return to Cranford and Suburban Shootout, but that's because I lived in England for over a year and got to see those on TV. I even found an audiobook with his voice on youtube and I replayed it a couple of times xD Even when he appeared on Midnight in Paris I was like: Oh, I really do love him!)

(Nah! I get you. I was running out of ideas as well on that part. Maybe we should have them arriving to the town?)

((Ooo, I may have to see if I can find those somewhere :3))

((Okay, we can do that. Would you mind skipping for me? I've got so many things to do today -_- ))
((Hey, I'm sorry but my grandpa is in the hospital and as soon as my dad gets home from work we're going to go see him, so I might not be able to reply until tomorrow. I'm bringing my ipad, and there's not much I can do there so I might reply still but please don't expect it. I'll be back at some point tomorrow))

Mia sighed as she stood up in front of the familiar gate that led to a small front garden. They had been able to reach the village without stumbling upon any trouble on their way. Somehow she wished they had to be honest. She'd have actually just stayed there, frozen, for a bit of couple of seconds more, but time wasn't on their side and maybe Tome wouldn't be patient enough if she did so. She opened the gate and with a few long strides she reached the door, she knocked on it, though a bit tentatively.

Some seconds went by before the door was opened from the inside. Mia looked down, brow raised at the small kid that was standing in front of her. The little girl seemed to be around 6 years old give or take. Her hair was that of Mia's and even her face bore a strong resemblance with her own. Her big and round emerald green eyes pierced right through Mia as they looked up at her. "Yes? Who is it?" Another young girl asked as she stepped behind her sister. The look on her face dramatically changed as her gaze laid on Mia. In the 13 year old Kaylee an angry mixed with scared expression appeared and she grabbed the small girl, dragging her all the way behind her back as she took a few steps back "Mom! Mom!!" She yelled.

Mia watched them both with an expressionless face. "What is it?" A young woman asked as she reached the door. She stopped on her heels as she saw Mia standing on the front door "Take your sister with you, honey" She told her daughter cautiously before she slowly approached the door "You... What are you doing here?" Iris asked, closing the wooden door a bit "Don't get too agitated, Iris. I'm looking for him" Mia stated plainly. Iris green eyes narrowed "He's not here" She declared, lowering her voice. "I don't have time for this nonsense. Let me in" Even when the woman refused to move from the doorframe, Mia shoved her off, not roughly but firmly and stepped into the house. "Wait! You can't just... And you even dared to bring that... That man with you!" She screamed hysterically as she waved her hands on the air "Darling!! Darling, help!"

(Oh, dear. It's okay. I understand. Hope it's nothing too serious!)

((I think everything's going to be okay. Thanks))

Tome didn't know what was going on. He had frowned a bit, at the sight of the little girl, and startled when the slightly older girl seemed to recognize Mia - and to be afraid of her, no less. When their mother began to shout, he was starting to lose his patience. Some strange, protective anger came out of him and he found himself standing behind her with his eyes narrowed and his fists clenched - it was probably why the mother had reacted to him in such a way, but he couldn't bring himself to care.

But there was business to attend to, and he couldn't stop to decipher that feeling.

When the woman tried to close the door, he slammed a hand against it to keep it open, and just followed Mia inside. The woman was screaming and Tome closed the door behind them, listening for whoever it was she was yelling for. It didn't matter who it was. He would incapacitate the man and move on with this. He needed answers, not more wasted time.

(Oh, that should be a relief. Glad to hear that ^_^ )

"It's alright, let them in" Mia looked up to the stairs at the owner of the voice that had just spoken. He was leaning lightly against the wall as his free hand held a sickle that was hanging to the side. Probably something he had grabbed when he heard his wife's screams. "B-But..." Iris stammered. Her husband just gave her a kind smile before waving his hand. The woman nibbled on her bottom lip before turning on her heels and leaving, not without forgetting to shoot a glare at both Mia and the man who was accompanying her, of course.

Then, the icy blue gaze of the sandy haired man fell in the two people that stood on the doorway and it hardened, all tenderness obviously gone. A small sigh escaped his lips and he dragged his feet all the way down "So... Are you here for money or...?" His eyes darted from Mia to Tome "Have you followed in your mother's footsteps?" Even if it was meant to be hidden, his voice was loaded with a mocking tone. "The 'abducting shadows'. Do you recall them?" Mia asked, ignoring his words.

The man raised his eyebrow and crossed his arms across his chest "The maledicte, enough. Why?" Despite it all, Mia couldn't hold back a small smile, encouraged by those mere words "Tell me about them" She urged him. The man's brows furrowed and he rubbed his chin with his fingers softly "They feed off children, young kids. Particularly of those who are sick. Death is something that they seem to crave and is particularly attractive for them. Had them attacking this village a couple of years ago until the villagers started to offer them sacrifices - or so I've heard -, then they just stopped. Oh, they're also said to inhabit a specific hill no far from here. No one is fool enough to approach that place though" He stated in a monotone voice.

Mia blinked. Feed off children. She felt a chill running down her spine "Where? Which hill?" She demanded to know. The man just shrugged "The tallest one. It's easily seen once you enter the woods" Mia nodded "How can they be defeated?" She hurriedly asked. "I don't know. They are like smokey beings, it seems as if you can't even touch them, much less harm them" He declared. That's all she needed. They couldn't waste any more time. She turned on her heels to exit the house when one single sentence stopped her from moving "They almost took your brother now that I remember"

Mia couldn't stop herself from turning her face back "My... Brother?" She asked, puzzled. No way! She had never heard about it "Yeah. Your mother sent me a letter, the pitiful wh*re. She was also scared that it'd come back for you eventually. But I don't really know what stopped it from taking that thing you so shamelessly called brother, the little halfbreed b*stard" Mia clenched her fists at the man's words and she felt a horrible stinging sensation on her nose, the tears welling up. The rage overwhelmed her. She breathed in deeply "Bye, Dad" She answered sharply and kept on her way to the door to exit the house. Forget it! Forget it! The only thing that matters is Fawn She told herself as her eyes glistened with the yet to be shed tears.

Tome was still ready, even after the woman left, to defend against the man speaking to them, but they needed this information. And as it came from the man's mouth, Tome's stomach sunk deeper and deeper. Abducting shadows. Maledicte. Feeding off of children. Feeding off his Fawn - He couldn't think it. It made him ill. He wanted to throw up as much as he wanted to run out and do what needed to be done, and he had to struggle not to show it. He couldn't break down and worry now. He had to act.

His first action, though, was made upon the rage that had started slowly simmering inside him when he pieced together Mia and the man's relationship, before she'd even said it aloud. When she had slipped past him out the door, Tome moved forward towards the man. The weapon started to come up, but he snatched it from the man's hand and slammed a fist into his jaw, dropping him to the floor.

"Watch what you say about halfbreeds and b*st*rds." He hissed, eyes glaring wildly down at the man at his feet. "Some day, one might have the upper hand." He slammed the weapon into the wall hard enough that it stuck, then turned and just followed after Mia out of the house. There wasn't any time left to waste if that thing was going to . . . going to . . .

He couldn't.

"Let's go." He said when they'd reached their horse, and his voice was kinder than it had been since they'd started traveling, softer. "It'll be over soon." He did his best to ignore the part of him that added 'one way or another'.

Mia had gasped as she heard the dull noise produced by her father's jaw as Tome's fist slammed against it. She turned on her heels and was frankly surprised for a moment by Tome's action. Then as he spoke, she figured he must have felt insulted by his words towards the half-breeds and though it hadn't been for her, she felt honestly thankful. She knew that she would've never been able to hit her dad, no matter how much she had wished to do so. She felt a bit warmer inside and that helped her to stop the tears from flowing.

When they reached their horses and Tome spoke, she nodded and hurriedly hopped on top of the saddle. "Yeah" With that simple word, she took the reins and got her horse moving. They were so close, it couldn't be too late. Fawn wouldn't had been... that yet. Wouldn't she? She shook her head as she got her horse to lope faster and faster.

((Trying to decide if he should have to fight the thing or if it should just be gone and her body left when they get there. . .))

Tome swung up into the saddle and led his horse after hers, following her to the right point where they had a full view of the trees and the hills beyond. "That one." He said, though it was obvious which was tallest, and they started off again at a run. He kept that location firm in mind as they went, though he knew they would have to spend a night among the trees before they could reach it. One more night, he thought. One more, and he would have her back again. She was so close.

(Well. Would he be the type to chase after the thing if he finds Fawn dead? As in "An eye for an eye"?)

Mia kept her eyes on the hill during all the ride. Though she knew it was so close, it kind of felt as it was so far at the same time. As if, no matter how much did she ride, she wasn't getting any closer. Maybe it was because of the growing impatience to find Fawn. The feed off the children thing seriously scared her.

((It's difficult :( I can't decide whether he'd be too despondent to do much of anything, or go tearing after it like a madman even though he didn't know where it was. Maybe he manages to kill it with his limited magic somehow? Like maybe he thinks it's afraid of light since it comes at night, and he kills it with bright lights and electricity or something?))

When it became too late in the night, Tome finally brought them both to a stop and dismounted. "We can tie the horses here." He said, bringing his to a low branch to tie off the reigns. "We'd best get a good night's sleep." Whatever happened tomorrow . . . they were going to need rest.
