Who? Ah the WHO, good band though we aren't talking about them. You are Alven or Human, a person that is in the Divine Realms. You can and should probably be in the military or clergy of one of these realms. A devout follower of the Faith of the Divines here to reclaim this continent in the name of the Gods from the Shadow Court. You are here for one sole purpose and that is to keep the darkness, the shadows and all that is evil from breaching the Grand Range and destroying the Divine Realms for they are all that stands between the Shadows and the Eastern Lands.
What? Crusaders, Divine Legions, Light and Darkness. This is a battle for the fate of the Divine Realms on the Shadow Continent, a place formerly known as Elium. Here we stand and die.
Where? The Divine Realms are like Crusader States. They were carved out of the Shadow Court's holdings during the First and Second Divine Marches (centuries prior). Since that time they grew (mostly through the Third Divine March) with minor growth in the Fourth before ultimately losing lots of ground in the latter years of the Fourth March and then all through the Fifth March. The Sixth saw the annihilation of one of the larger forces ever mustered by the Eastern Nations and the Divine Realms to combat (and hopefully retake) lands. We are in these Divine Realms.
When? This is nearly fifteen-hundred years after the Great Exodus from Elium following the conclusion of the Shadow War. We are in what is known as the Inter-War period for it is the gap between the Sixth and Seventh Divine Marches. The Sixth having been a complete failure the realms both Divine and Eastern are extremely hesitant to sign up to a Seventh March thus causing them to be more inclined to not provoke the Shadow Court. Some still expect a counter attack from the Shadow Court for the actions of the six previous Marches though none has really come yet, just some minor border skirmishes.
Why? The Shadow Veil (known as the Veil) was the divide between the Mortal Realm and that of the Shadows, the Underworld and the Realms of the Gods. Some Humans and Alves thought that they were strong enough to breach this Veil and learn the knowledge and wisdom of the cosmos. They were wrong and for their failure the city of Alrium was completely decimated signalling the start of the Shadow War, also known as the War of Reckoning by the Alves. This conflict pit the Humans and Alves against vast demon armies led by the Shadow Lords (of the Shadow Court) who were themselves Dark Gods cast aside by the Divines in the beginning of the Mortal Realm's history.
For their arrogance and treachery for breaching the Veil the Gods chose not to intervene in the conflict and let what happen come to pass. Humanity and the Alves put up a valiant defense for some time before eventually sucumbing in various manners. Humanity's will more or less fractured causing infighting to erupt only further weakening them. The Alves made a big last ditch battle kind of thing before being obliterated and needing to recoup their losses. Humans and Alves then fled Eastward to the Eastern Lands (previously unknown to them) while some sailed south to the sub-continent of Kaneth. The two groups never knew the outcome of one another's situation and still to this day remain unaware of the other's survival.
You fight to reclaim the lost lands of Elium, now known as the Shadow Continent, in a futile effort to possibly regain what as lost so long ago.
