Welcome to the Blackout
An ominous shadow surrounded the rather busy town. Everyone was rushing around to fix everything up before night fell for that is when the beasts came out from shadow lurking.
Everyone had gone inside while a few slower humans just got into their homes safely behind barricaded doors and locked windows as instructed. Anyone who was outside was eaten by the beasts that only roamed the streets when cloaked in twilight. All lights were to remain off and nobody was to open their doors for anything or anyone. That was the normal procedure. This is what we have come to know as the Blackout.
A little girl roamed the streets one particular night. She hadn't made it home in time before the Blackout began and her family wouldn't let her back in her own home. Everyone heard the panicked screams and cries of the girl running to each doorstep to try and find someone who would let her in, anyone. Parents covered their children's ears as to not increase the terror in their little minds. Others had tried to ignore her to the best of their abilities. She'd stay at different doorsteps for hours on end screaming for the family who lived there to let her in. The family would just wait in silence till she moved on to another house.
Finally, one man had enough of the frightened screams while she just so happened to be begging at his door. He opened it to let her in quickly and hurriedly before the beasts came, but a giant beast had taken the chance and rushed in the house, large mouth gaping and swallowing the girl and the family whole. Everyone sat in shock and horror as they heard the beast devour the family and destroy the house. Some saw what had occurred and they never were quite the same in their mental state afterwards.
That man made the one mistake that no one should ever make again...
He let the monsters in...
5 hours before today's Blackout. It was a good day so far. Weekdays were great for knocking things off your list at the small town of Harbor. Yuki herself was grateful for the break. It gave her time to restock for all the monsters she took care of at home. On her way to get a few things from the store, her green eyes wandered over to a group of people crowded in the street. What were they so busy with now? With a sigh, her curiosity got the best of her and she went over to the group. What she found was... unsettling.
A monster in plain daylight was hissing and growling at everyone. It was about the size of a rabbit, and almost looked like one too. The bystanders knew better than to just approach it recklessly. Even small monsters can kill a person with the right abilities. It was odd. Monsters almost never came out during the day, so why did this one? Speaking of which, the appearance of unwelcome creatures in the day was becoming increasingly more common. It gave Yuki a bad feeling, a really bad feeling. Something was going on, but she couldn't pinpoint what. The best option was to just wait until the authorities got there to kill it. It made her feel bad she couldn't help it, but there wasn't much she could do.
