Valkaria considered the military backbone the Constilation Federation. They are a proud race built on a merit class system serving their King. Most families serve in the Highguard for a number of years advancing their family standing and gaining honor.
Those however without a familial name, bastards, criminals, no bloods (orphans who are not claimed) have no chance to advance or gain honor in the system. If they wish to at the least have honor they must serve in the Blackguard.
Blackguards are considered the scum of Valkarian society. The useless pawns cowards that sacrifice themselves so the Highguard can have victory. In reality they are better trained than most of the Highguard. Are loyal to their brother's and sister's and have to deal with things the Highguard couldn't.
