First known recordings of BlackFoot originate in 6th century feudal Japan, where legends told of a metal-faced entity leading ceremonial kumi-daiko for the emperors. He was highly revered, and highly depended on by the emperors and his councils, who would regularly consult with him for advice. It seems that disagreements regarding conflicts and warfare eventual led to Blackfoot leaving Japan, and seemingly disappearing from any accounts of the time.
Upon landing on the shores of North America, European settlers documented the stories told among the Blackfoot natives that spoke of reverence for the metal-faced spirit who unified their people with music and called forth birth of a new era of peace. A mysterious figure known as Blackfoot. He was said to have wandered into the camps of three warring tribes, undertaken their ritual rights of passage, and used his newfound trust and respect to broker the peace pact between them. Over time, those three tribes unified, under the name, The Blackfeet. In honour of this, the tribes elders awarded Blackfoot the title of “Iron Chief”.
Knowing that BlackFoot the Iron Chief had unified the Blackfeet hundreds of years prior, the invading Europeans were startled when one uneventful day around 1700, a masked man claiming to be BlackFoot appeared from the forest and requested transport to Europe. They agreed, thinking he would bring a new age of fortune to Europe. According to records, the moment BlackFoot the Iron Chief stepped foot into the city of Bilbao, he walked into the countryside and the Spanish would not hear from him again.
BlackFoot the Iron Chief is believed to have appeared Czechoslovakia, where local Czech folklore tells of a masked traveller who was taken in by a local peasant family, It is said he taught the family, and in particular a young son the arts of music in return for his warm welcome. The boy was believed to be Johann Baptist Wanhal, who as a man, would go on to be a prolific classical composer. Wanhal was once asked who had taught him to compose, and he stated “The man in the metal mask, the man with an endless past.” which could be a referance to BlackFoot the Iron Chief.
After returning to America during the 19th century BlackFoot the Iron Chief set up shop as a witch doctor in New Orleans, providing herbal remedies to the slaves that lived there. At this time New Orleans was the only place slaves where allowed to own drums, and it was during ritualistic jam sessions BlackFoot introduced his European horns to the tribal rhythms, and so Jazz was born. Blackfoot the Iron Chief continued to practice medicine and perform locally, making New Orleans a thriving melting-pot of culture and entertainment. This helped pave the way for the abolition of slavery in 1865. After a few wild parties and concerts BlackFoot the Iron Chief once again disappears from records.
