Since my consulting biz isn't exactly booming, I've been thinking about broadening my offerings a bit by getting a colocated server and selling hosting space and virtual servers.

If I can work out something affordable, I'm considering doing this soonish. The good news for you guys is that if this works out, I'll be moving the ECR to that server, which will:

  • Speed up the site
  • Get rid of the annoying port 8080 redirection
  • Allow people with hotmail and yahoo email addresses to register
  • Eliminate problems with power outages, etc.

Anyhow, if this happens, I might go begging for another round of donations, because this will take a while to get profitable, and I is po'.

Oh, and if anyone is interested in renting some server space, lemme know :)

all of this sounds very promising.

big hurrah on the removal of port. its not a biggie but yea it does bug me for some weird reason.

cant people with yahoo and hotmail already register?

and as for your business, you should consider consulting a proffessional graphics designer or going to CSSmania and getting a template. cus no offense but your site looks sorta shady.

lastly. how much is the going rate for the space? what sorta support are you offering? i am looking for a Host for my website.

I'm not sure how much I'm going to charge. I have to wait until monday to call the various colo centers and get their rates, then I have to price out a server. I'll keep you informed though.

I'm interested in server space, for I'll eventually need a online catalog available to my customers. I let you know later.

The ISP I used to work for wants a ridiculous (to me) amount of money for colocation, so I'm shopping around.

alright well no hurries. i am applying for a job soon, so it will be a bit before i have some income to spend on a server.

i dont mind paying a bit more from you as compared to another host, because i know its helping keep the ECR alive.

Looks like I've found a viable place to host my server. If I can get the details hammered out this week, I'm probably going to shoot for having the server online in a month. :)

That is awesome, let me know when you are up and going. I am thinking about hosting my new personal finance site with you...let me know.

Will do.

Do you have any special requests or needs for what you're looking for? Now's the time to ask before the server is put together :)

PM me if you like.

i dont have a job yet... i thought i did, and i sorta get paid for being a member of the Masscomm club, but i havent seen the dough yet, and it doesnt seem like it will be constant income.

i am gonna try to ply the old man for some dough, so i can see about getting my hosting services up and running.
