Will you cross the boundaries of logic?

Dear Ms. Remilia of the Eon household,

We have witnessed exemplary performance within the past few months at Aeria Academy of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the High Ministry of Magic has come to the decision that you have become worthy for a mission that no other witch or wizard in Xerulia may be able to execute.

There have been children from the human world that have been identified as high-potential witches and wizards. As only you can so confidently and undoubtedly step through outside the magic realm and back, we request you to find these people and safely bring them back to Xerulia.

In the package are the profiles of the said humans, and a pendant containing a part of your special power. Please do take care of it, as what will have been lost, especially if it were to be a special power - will be lost forever.

Once your task has been successfully accomplished, it will serve as proof that you are one again, able to wield your gift to the fullest. And we will not hesitate to give back what is deserved.

Good luck and may the forces be with you.

Emily Ragendoff

Representative of the High Ministry of Magic

"That's what they said." Remilia sighed, rolling the piece of parchment to a close for what seemed to be the umpteenth time. She gazed at the faraway city from a high tree-top. Even from a distance, the place was bustling with activity; even from afar, she found only little similarity between areas in this world and theirs. None of the trees even talked, and this gave Remilia the idea that Earth's inhabitants must feel lonely being here.

She, at times, received very vague memories of this world from the past.

Little me must've been here before, she thought, rather astonished.

It's only been some time, she thought. and I just want to go back to Xerulia! She looked up and squinted at the blinding light that the morning sun offered. "At least they have holy stars like you!" she said. She also had the thought that that one probably wasn't capable of turning into a really gorgeous woman and start spreading enlightenment to the rest of the world, as the holy ones did in Xerulia often. "Oh, right." She mumbled upon realization.

After some time of watching as little kids played around and leaves flying in the breeze, the girl decided to start her search. After all, she was only perched with the birds and their nests because she had to rest - finally being able to use her power after a long time of solitude from it was, in fairness, rather tiring. She glanced down at the sparkling pendant. All the scarlet, glittery fluid that was flowing in the glass container was magic, but not just any magic. Her, as she would always quote,
super-awesome magic.

Remilia hopped from the tall tree's branches until she reached the grassy ground. And from there, she paced towards the city.
"Well!," she said after a series of stretching, ignoring the baffled and curious looks of the little children. "It's time to find a very fortunate wizard!"

Satoshi Kentaro

With an uncontrollable grin, a certain petite brunette boy gazed upon the female child before him, carefully looking at the immaculately new dress he had picked out for the girl. The girl, on the other hand, reciprocated his ear-to-ear grin as she held onto the ends of her black skirt and spun around, displaying her aqua, long-sleeved dress with a red logo of a certain school patched on the upper right side of her dress. Yes, what she wore was nothing more than your ordinary kindergarten uniform. However, for the Kentaro siblings, that ordinary outfit was a luxury for them, since it took Satoshi's two weeks pay for the certain object. Though, when he saw how delighted his sister was, he knew that it was certainly worth it.

"Aaah~!" Satoshi threw his arms around his younger sibling, almost suffocating the child, "How can you look so dangerously cute, Kaede?! It's a crime! You almost stole my heart for a second there! Oh, wait. It's already stolen by you ever since you were born! Aaah, I can't believe you're going to enter kindergarten for the first time today! I feel so old now! Wait. Do you have your bag? Have you properly placed your books and pencils inside? What about your food? Ah! Wait, your water bot--!"

"Gaaaaah....Satoshi...Quit your blabbering, my head's....aching!"

A sudden voice mumbled heavily, interrupting the precious moment that Satoshi was having. However, at the sight of his mother crawling out from her futon, the boy's voice boomed even more.
"Look, mom! Kaede's in kindergarten now. It's her first day!" Upon hearing this, Yuriko groggily glanced at Kaede, who looked uneasily at the woman, before shrugging the matter off by heading to their almost run-down kitchen.

At this, Satoshi felt his hand clutched by the little girl and saw the abrupt change of mood in her sister's eyes. The boy looked at his sister and forced an even more bigger grin before crouching next to her.
"Come to think of it, something's missing from your outfit." Satoshi pulled out a chullo hat and put it on her. "Ta-da! You've always wanted one, right?"

In an instant, the girl was beaming once again.
"....Thank you...nii-chan." Kaede replied with a grin. With a satisfied nod, Satoshi held the little girl's hand, "We'll be going now." The boy said to no one in particular as the siblings left the house.

"Satoshi! Catch this!"

Their mother shouted from their window and threw a small paper bag towards the siblings. Luckily, Satoshi caught the object in a nick of time. Peeking inside the paper bag, the siblings found a dozen of what seemed to look like homemade cookies with unruly frosting. At the sight of this, both of the siblings grinned. However, it seems that for once, Kaede's grin was bigger than Satoshi's.

What's this? Did I lose in the congratulatory present? That woman. She doesn't even know how to cook and she's drunk, yet--Well, whatever.

Wiping off the remaining barf from her mouth, Yuriko looked at Kaede with teary eyes.

"Have a good day, you two!"

"Honest to Earth," Remilia said to sleeping cat. "I don't know where to start."

She watched as the unconscious feline's chest rhythmically heaved upwards and downwards. Only the faint breeze could be heard with its purring.
"Gah!" She yelled at the sky. She was frustrated, and the cat seemed to take a hint. From its once-peaceful sleeping position, it stretched its small lithe body and lazily walked away. "Had to let that one out." Remilia stood and turned her back to face an old shrine. Behind and around it were tall trees that loomed over the girl. The shrine itself looked abandoned, save for the cat that she had been chilling with for a while, but she could sense slight forces roaming around.

Humans built shrines like this one in honor of their gods and deities, Remilia recalled one of the various past lectures that the Ministry of Magic had imprinted in her mind, literally and magically. I wonder how it feels to be famous and praised; free and respected. Eventually, she headed for the stony steps, leaving the shrine behind. Her slow stride turned into a dash towards what seemed to be an empty road for a far exit. Trees at her sides were a fast blur; all of a sudden, the wind was raging and letting her long, bright hair whip behind her. Remilia ran down the long stairs, momentarily forgetting of her aim.

"Wooooo!" She screamed, slowly came to a walk and and finally opened her eyes. She was close to the exit, which was rather long. She glanced behind her and saw the high stairs obstructing her view of the shrine. Had she really been through that in a short time? It seemed so. However, if anything, she felt much less restricted and uncertain of this world. "If this world needs a bit of magic," she declared. "I'd be here to spread it!"

Satoshi Kentaro

"We're here!"

Satoshi exclaimed as he stopped in front of a dainty young brunette, while throwing his arms with delight, as if he was proudly presenting his greatest work of art. Seeing as how Kaede's eyes were gleaming with excitement as she clasped onto the gate and peered through the establishment with difficulty, Satoshi decided not to prolong her agony and opened the entrance.

Upon entering, a small, yet spacious structure came into the siblings' view. Various outdoor toys were scattered along the area, along with adorable midgets who were running about until they saw the newcomers.
"Satoshi-nii!" The kids exclaimed in chorus and sprinted towards the said boy. On impulse, the dainty brunette who was just beside Satoshi retreated behind him, tugging the ends of his jacket in the process.

Glancing behind his shoulder, Satoshi looked at his sister being shy and to the gleeful kids. With a smile, Satoshi greeted them like he always did. Making an exaggerated Mekameka Ranger pose, Satoshi
coolly said, "Your hero has arrived."

Silence ensued. The children stared at him in horror and his sister was left speechless. It turns out that they needed a few seconds to let the thought sink in, then made a retort.
"THAT'S NOT HOW MEKAMEKA RANGERS WORK!" In chorus, the children cried in outrage. "Eh?! Really? I thought I had it right this time, too!" Satoshi muttered with a pout. Though, much to his delight, Kaede was laughing.

"You laughed." A small girl from the crowd looked curiously at Kaede and smiled."Thank goodness. I really wanted to approach you, but you looked so scared, I don't know what to do." Hearing this, the little brunette looked at her and at Satoshi, who in turn, gave a wink.

"Now, now. Since sensei isn't here yet, I'll be taking your attendance. Everybody, back to the classroom!" With another chorused "Haai~", the children retreated to the room while Satoshi followed closely behind, while observing his little sister talking with the girl from earlier.

"Hiro-kun? Okay, present! Aki-chan? Mmhmm, present! Chiho-chan? Alright. Nao-kun? There you are! Rei-kun?" The brunette looked up from the attendance sheet and to the class. "Wait. Where's Rei-kun?" Various answers were given to him, though none were of any benefit. At this, Satoshi noticed that the class started to grow anxious at Rei's disappearance.

"He's at the park." A voice spoke out from the class. "He said that he'll be back before Satoshi-nii or Sensei arrives, but I don't know."

"Thanks, Yui-chan." Satoshi smiled before turning to the anxious class once more. He had to lighten up the mood somehow. "Fear not, young children, for I, Kuro Ranger will utilize the power of Neptune that was bestowed upon me and save--"

"Oooh, Go Mekameka Ranger!" A certain woman suddenly popped out from behind the brunette, startling him in the process.

"Wooahh! Sensei?! Where did you come from?!"

"I just got here. Rei's in the park, right? Can you go fetch him up? I'll handle everything here."

"Understood!" Satoshi replied and with that, he left from the kindergarten.

Running through the said destination, Satoshi can't help but feel that everything was unnaturally great this morning, it was overwhelming. It was cliched, but deep in his heart, he wished that it would last forever. At the sight of a large, grassy area, Satoshi stopped running and took a second to catch his breath. Afterwards, he approached the group of kids who were playing around and asked for Rei.

"Blue-haired boy? No, I haven't seen one. But! There was an orange-haired lady here earlier. She looked weird, though." A kid replied.

Orange-haired weird lady? Satoshi raised a brow at the kid's description, a little curious about the said individual, but stopped. This isn't the time for being bewildered about a foreigner, he still had to find Rei, after all!

Once again, the brunette took flight, hoping to find the person he was looking for.

| R e m i l i a |

The road which she had gone to seemed just as empty as the shrine from earlier.
"Jeez," the girl mumbled, looking around for any sign of like other than the unnaturally silent trees. "Where are all the people here?" For a while she walked straight to wherever the pavement was leading her. "It sure would be nice to find a living, breathing person sometime!" She'd declare once again to nobody in particular.

Sure enough, she found a figure from a distance, running to a nearby road to her right. She didn't mind the street signs that offered other directions; she was concerned with the first human she'd seen since the little kids who were playing earlier. And with her sheer determination - and somehow, desperation - to find the wizard, Remilia decided to follow whoever had just passed her.

"Oi!" She dashed - in a magical way, feet floating a bit above the ground, forgetting about how witches like her were forbidden to use magic in the human world - towards the human. In no time, she was able to catch up with him. But as she got nearer, Remilia became more surprised. The human child turned his back just as the orange-haired girl's feet had come back to the ground. "Eh?," she mumbled, looking down at the kid who was staring at her with wide and curious eyes. "I didn't expect for my only lead to be so little."

The child blinked in response. Just a blink, and nothing more. Remilia felt a small twinge of mockery from the naive little child, but she couldn't really blame him. She knelt in front of him, almost reaching his height as she did so. He was indeed small, and the child looked like someone who'd just be playing around in a nursery, or whatever the humans called it.
"What's your name, kid?," she asked, showing a grin as she thought of the possible reasons as to why a child would be running around by himself.

"R-Rei." He said. And a blink. And a stare. And a sniff.

"Running away from your family?" She wondered aloud. "Where are your parents?"

"No! I was chasing a cute neko-chan. And then..." After a few moments, he looked like he was going to cry. "I... I..."

"Hey!," Remilia said sympathetically, in a wave of panic. "It's okay. Don't--"

But it was too late.

"UWAAAAAH!" The little boy let out a loud cry, which made Remilia somewhat cringe.

Children have never ceased to be adorable yet evil creatures, she thought, her mind almost disassembling from the shrieks and noise that came from the child.

She spread her palm in front of the child, and a small light shone from it. Out of nowhere, a lollipop came out.

The kid abruptly stopped and stared at Remilia and the piece of candy that was floating from her hand, consecutively. All traces of sadness and fear (or whatever the kid may have been feeling; the girl never dared to figure out whatever was behind children and their exploits) disappeared from his face; all that remained were amazement and the want for the piece of candy.

The candy fell on her palm. With a grin, Remilia offered it to the child. "Rei, right?" She asked. "I'm Remilia. Accept this as a peace offering, O... mighty warrior. May it serve you in your endeavors."

Rei didn't look like he understood the older girl one bit, but he took the "peace offering" anyway, and stuffed it in his mouth. He looked happier, which made Remilia feel relieved. "Well," she stood. "I better get goi--"

All of a sudden, the child tugged on her dress.

"What?" She gazed at the child curiously. "Want another candy? You know, I only brought a limited supply--"

"Nee-chan, let's go back to Sensei and Satoshi-nii!"

Now it was her turn to be confused. "What kinda place is that?" She asked.

It seemed that she wasn't going to find answers here, but she felt a sense of obligation to lead Rei to wherever he wished to go. Plus, it didn't seem like the child was ready to let go of her uniform, and she didn't exactly want him crying so noisily anymore.

And so, after a deep, meaningful sigh, she nodded. "I'll let you tag along until you find these people of yours." She walked back to the intersection she had seen earlier; Rei, still holding on to her clothes, followed silently. While wondering which road she'd take now, she said, "You know, I'm looking for someone too..."

Satoshi Kentaro

One hour.

The boy has been running around the town for almost an hour, yet, there was not even a sign of Rei's shadow in his sight. Sweating and panting, Satoshi still continued to ask around the townsfolk for any clues he may find. However, it was no use. Rei was nowhere to be found. At times like these, it would be best if he could call and ask help from the police, however, with the event in Sunshine Street, those officers probably have their hands full at the moment. Calling his parents, on the other hand, will most likely worry them.

What if he was kidnapped?

At the thought of this, Satoshi felt as if his heart was crushed; unconsciously, the pressure of looking for Rei was getting to him enough to make his seemingly permanent grin tremble in fear and guilt.

"Calm yourself, Satoshi."Trying to retain the beam on his face, the boy fell onto his knees and firmly landed his rear on what he thought was a pavement. There must be someplace where he hasn't searched yet."Let's see....Pineapple street....Red Light District....The Cree--", The boy stopped muttering, looking up from his thoughts only to be greeted by a never-ending stairs which he was currently sitting on.

"Of course, the shrine! I haven't checked this area, yet!"The boy cried out, slamming his palm onto his forehead.

Immediately, Satoshi stood up and decided to inspect the area. Oddly enough, the place he was currently in seemed a little dead. The streets were empty and not a single soul can be found, except for the bushy trees which swayed along the soft wind. Though, a little off-putting, it seemed tranquil and serene.

Well, that was until a piercingly familiar wail almost destroyed his eardrums.

Surprised, Satoshi immediately sprinted away and looked for the source of the sound. Since it came from a distance, it was faint, but no doubt, that voice sounded like a little boy's and a familiar one, at that. Once he reached the end of the road, a familiar, blue-haired child stood on the middle of the intersection, smiling nonchalantly while a piece of candy (Probably a lollipop), dangled from his mouth.

At the sight of this, Satoshi immediately ran, crouched down once he was near to the boy, and clutched him within his arms.
"Thank goodness, I finally found you."Smiling, he gave the boy a pat while hiding his other hand inside his pocket, which was oddly trembling."Geez, you. If you disappear like that, Mekameka Ranger wouldn't visit you in your sleep and give you candy."

Rei stared blankly at him, his mouth slightly hanging open as Satoshi spoke.
"H-He won't?!" The boy's voice cracked as tears started dripping from his eyes. Calmly, Satoshi opened his mouth to speak, but was cut off by the boy. "Th-Then, I'll just stick with Nee-chan here! She has a lot of candy and is a lot better than you or Mekameka Ranger, after all!" Rei huffed and hid behind a certain someone.

Nee-chan? Satoshi looked up.

True enough, a nee-chan stood before him. Bright orange hair, blue-green eyes, and peculiar clothing, suddenly what Rei just said made sense. Who was this? Somehow, Satoshi felt that she was the
weird lady that the boy from the park was talking about. Certainly, she looked very suspicious. Adding the fact that she seemed to be only around children led Satoshi into a realization.

Was she a foreign kidnapper?

The boy maintained his smile, in fact, it even grew wider, even when he learned that she somehow reeked of danger. As much as he'd like to interrogate the young lady and expose her true colors, he needs to grab Rei and skedaddle without him being stubborn, and Satoshi knew just the trick for it.

Stealthily, Satoshi put his hand inside his pocket and shuffled through his phone, pressing the music player.
"Ah, excuse me, someone's calling."Once he got his phone out of his pocket, he shut the player off and raised his phone to his ear. At this, Satoshi glanced at Rei, who seemed curious about his actions."Hey, Mekameka Ranger-san! Nice to hear from you!"

"It's Mekameka Ranger?! Satoshi-nii! Let me talk to him!" The boy started to jump up and down in excitement, once he heard his favorite hero's name.

"Sure! Wait, what's that, Ranger-san? You don't want to talk to Rei, since he's been a bad boy?"Satoshi exclaimed, glancing at Rei who was greatly horrified and was about to cry once more."Aw, that's too bad. You hate evil and bad boys count as being evil, after all, right? What?! Oh no, don't be depressed about it! You'll be defeated by the evil octopus! Ranger-san!? Don't di--"

"W-W-Waaaaah!" Rei started bawling. "I'm sorry, Mekameka Ranger-sa-san! Rei.....Rei...will behave from now on, I promise! So...So, don't die when you fight...The evil octopus!"

"Did you hear that, Mekameka Ranger-san? Rei was apologizing and said that he will behave. Okay, bye, Ranger-san!"Satoshi said and turned to the boy with a smile."Mekameka Ranger-san wanted to thank you, Rei-kun. He said that your apology and determination to become a good boy made him even more powerful! Isn't that great? You helped, Ranger-san!"

Rei sniffed and faced Satoshi with a grin.
"Really?! He said that?!"

Satoshi nodded,
"Yup. So will you be good and go back to the kindergarten?"

Rei nodded happily in response. Once the boy's back was turned against Satoshi, he approached the nee-chan from before and said,
"I don't know who you are, heck, I don't even if you speak Japanese, but thank you for accommodating Rei-kun over there. As his guardian, I really appreciated it." Satoshi bowed in respect, a small glint reflecting from his eyes.

"Well, then, goodbye, onee-chan."

Remilia blinked as an extremely familiar boy ran towards her - or at least, she thought it was her until the brunette approached and knelt the little child beside her. "Where did I see you before...?" she muttered, lost in thought until the familiar boy looked up at her. She continued to wonder, observing him with ever-curious, blue orbs.

She felt a sense of ambiguity from the boy, though as much as Remilia believed in her instincts and abilities, she had brushed those feelings aside. There was something else she sensed from him, something she knew, but ignored, the sometimes naive girl that she was.

She was to try confirm her suspicions of the recognizable boy when she heard music that seemed to come from his pocket. As curious as the child behind her, she stopped speaking to wait for whatever would happen next. It seemed to come from a communication device, something that she knew of, but not as unusual-looking as the one that the brunette had lifted near his ear.

Though she understood very much, the concepts of distanced transmission, she couldn't help but find the thought of speaking to metal rather silly.

Whoever this Mekameka Ranger is, she thought, not bothering to cut the conversation between the two boys, he seems to be very righteous and influential.

Her attention snapped back at the brunette as he spoke.
"Ah, about that. It's no problem!" she said with a light laugh. Remilia was but surprised when the boy bowed, she ended up doing the same as well, only a bit more impulsively. She waved faintly to Rei, who looked back for a while to catch her doing so. She breathed out a sigh, heading to the road opposite them.

Previous thoughts and feelings were washed away only by the one feeling that Remilia despised most of all. Still walking to wherever, she let out a groan as she heard her stomach rumble.
"Good thing I brought some food..." She told herself weakly. She could tell that just staying in another world drained her of her magic energy already.

Now all she had to do was find the next isolated spot (which seemed rather common around this area) and eat in loneliness. With such a thought, it was her turn to let out about the third declaration of the day.
"I want to go home!"

(Remilia's current mood~ (/゚Д゚)/(」゜ロ゜)」(´・益・`*))

Satoshi Kentaro

"Lunch time, kids!"

As their teacher gave the most anticipated announcement of this day, the children in the kindergarten started cheering and sprinting off to the playground all at once. Satoshi, who was taking a short water break after assisting the children with the exercises given to them by their teacher, immediately sprung out after the kids, even if he wasn't finished with his break, yet.
"Hey, make sure to play nicely with each other, okay?" The boy shouted, carefully watching over the groups of children who were roaming around the playground.

"--And you know, Satoshi-nii found me!"

Among these groups, one caught his attention when he heard his name. Looking over to the direction of the voice, Satoshi found Rei, Yui, Kaede, and Kyo, talking to each other while playing blocks. From the looks of it, Rei seemed to be talking about what happened earlier when Satoshi was looking for him.
"Then, then! There was this nee-chan who gave me a yummy lollipop! She was really nice!"

Oh. So she was the one who gave him the lollipop.

As Satoshi heard this, the smile on his face grew genuinely wider. Who would've thought that the Rei who was shy with adults became somewhat attached to the foreign girl whom he just met? That's really something. Somehow, with that, Satoshi's opinion on the girl improved and even forgot his first impression on her as a foreign kidnapper. Though, he can't help but be bothered by the sentence he faintly heard from her.

"Where did I see you before...?"

Did he know her from somewhere?

"Well, even if I did meet her, I still wouldn't recognize her. Ah! But then again, it's hard to come across someone as weird-looking as her, so that might be a bit.." Satoshi wondered aloud, gaining the attention of the kid in front of him, which he just noticed when he felt the kid's eyes on him."Do you want to play together?'

After a while, lunch finally ended and so did school. As Satoshi glanced at the clock, he realized that he still had about more than three hours before his next part-time job starts. While walking Kaede back to their house, Satoshi pondered what can be done to kill some time. It didn't take him long to find out what, though. As he safely returned Kaede to their house, a flyer pasted on the post just beside their house grabbed his attention.

Clutching the leaflet which said in bold letters:
'WANTED: Volunteer for the Denko Festival tonight!', Satoshi grinned, knowing his agenda for today.

In what seemed to be a million years, she managed to find herself another shrine, but this time, it was far from abandoned. In fact, there were people who were arranging what stands and outlets beside the pathway she walked through. She received a couple of glances from those people, but aside from that, nothing more. They all looked busy, and there wasn't anything she wanted from them, so she let them be.

Her curiosity grew in time, but so did her hunger. Remilia looked around until she found the shrine. It had a nice feeling to it, like it had been visited and prayed to a lot. The feeling was much stronger than on the discarded shrine from earlier. She climbed the little steps of the shrine and sat on a ledge next to it. "All right!" She decided with a victorious grin. "This is the perfect place!"

Remilia brought out a plain, ceramic plate from her lap and placed it on her lap. She stared at it skeptically, recalling what her father had told her about the plateware. You tell the plate what you want to eat, he said with a tone of what sounded like ridicule to the girl's ears. and it'll give it to you!

Says the zombie freak, Remilia thought, pouting. Her father was fond of sharing stories by the dinner table, whenever the family had the rare chance of spending time together (even though it was only for a very short time; and Remilia's father was sure to leave as soon as he had the chance).

There was one time when he mentioned his prodigious skills in the art of necromancy - Remilia was sure that it was about talking to the dead or something - and though she secretly did admire his skills, she started calling him names like
womanizer and zombie freak, which she knew he certainly hated. He never responded to such indignity, but Remilia had promised herself to keep on doing so until he was offended.

Though the rest of the family seemed to be over his habit, save for siblings sighing every now and then, Remilia still hated him for it.

Shaking the disappointing thoughts of her father away, Remilia's grimace slowly as she faced the plate.
"He did go all the way home just to give this to me, so there's no harm in trying..." she convinced herself, and took a deep breath, saying all kinds of food that she felt like eating as she exhaled. "Steak garlic bread chicken omelette rice--"

And with a pair of silverware that she had not seen before, all the food came to life on her plate, all right. Each one she mentioned was neatly stacked beside each other. Remilia stared at it surprisingly, and then longingly, until she realized that she was staring at real food.

For the record, she had wolfed down her meal in a matter of seconds.
"Cake!"

And there was a beautiful slice of chocolate cake - her favorite - staring back in her eye. Or at least, she thought it was. Either way, she ate it, holding down the tears that threatened to leak out of her eyes.
"This is delicious!" She beamed, earning the attention of a nearby person.

Remilia was busy eliminating every trace of chocolate when a shadow loomed over her.
"Hm?" She looked up to see a sophisticated-looking lady looking down on her with a raised eyebrow, and hands on her hips.

Konachan.com%20-%20116137%20black_hair%20blush%20frogmakina%20green_eyes%20japanese_clothes%20kimono%20long_hair%20original%20petals.jpg

"Not to interrupt your eating," The energetic lady said, observing Remilia from head to toe. "But, you know, it's rude to eat in front of shrines!" She stepped backward and bowed swiftly in front of the shrine.

Remilia looked down to see that her spoon and fork had disappeared, and the plate looked so clean, she wouldn't have guessed that she had just eaten on it. Nice!, she thought, and stuffed it back in her shoulder bag. She stood, glancing back at the taller lady. "Sorry about tha--"

The lady gasped, cutting Remilia's apology. "You speak perfect Japanese! You must be a cosplayer!" The lady looked overjoyed, as if she'd found what she had been looking for after a long time. She didn't really get what the lady meant, so she just focused on the her expression. Remilia wondered if that was what she was going to look like when she finally found this boy that she had to--

"Wait," Remilia mumbled, suddenly remembering. "That boy..."

"Hm?" The lady said. "Looking for your crush? You'll find all the cuties tonight at the festival!"

"Festival?" Remilia asked. "So that's what's going on." She looked at the outlets that people continued to build and arrange.

"Yep! Anyway, you're perfect! We need some people to help us out." She held out a flyer to Remilia.

WANTED: Volunteer for the Denko Festival tonight!

"I don't even know you," Remilia muttered. "But it sounds fun!"

"Doesn't it?" The lady beamed back. "And don't worry, we have just enough time to know each other!"

And just like that, Remilia let herself get dragged towards the rest of the volunteers.

Satoshi Kentaro

Satoshi gazed upon the area with a sheer look of astonishment on his face. Never had he expected the amount of people flooding throughout the area when the festival hasn't even started yet. Various faces were scattered around the area, from snot-nosed kids to wrinkled white-haired oldies, almost everyone in all ages was present for the event. Somehow, Satoshi regretted not bringing his family, but then again, they would only have a hard time with the crowd without his presence since he still had to help out with the festival.

At this, Satoshi made his way through the crowd, as he suddenly remembered that he still had to present himself as a volunteer. However, despite his efforts, he ended up lost in the sea of people and had no clue where to go. Without any hesitation, Satoshi decided to approach the nearest person available and asked,
"Excuse me! I'd like to ask something. Where will the volunteers gather?"

Turning around, a gigantic man stared at Satoshi before answering his question.
"That would be here, Kentaro."

Surprised, Satoshi beamed at the giant whom he recognized as the bouncer in the club he's working for.
"Hey~! fancy meeting you here, tottsan! Never expected you to be one of the volunteers." Faking a gasp, he continued, "Maybe you're here to pick up girls?! Want me to tag along with you?" Satoshi winked.

"You never cease to amaze and irritate me at the same time, you brat." The giant retorted, shoving a stack of boxes to the brunette. "And how many times should I remind you that my name is Karasawa, not tottsan?" He grumbled while tying a long strip of cloth that said: VOLUNTEER in big, bold letters across Satoshi's forehead. "Now, take that boxes to that Takoyaki stand by the far end of the stalls."

Before Satoshi could utter a word about how fancy the dangling piece of cloth on his forehead, Karasawa pushed him away, forcing him to trudge towards the mentioned stand.

"So you do all kinds of cute stuff; bring people to our stalls..."
The lady motioned to some people who continued making arrangements on the different stands.

"Hm, hm!" Remilia listened intently to the beaming lady, who had previously introduced herself as Yuriko. She learned a lot about the lady: like how she was a festival manager; and that she was only a couple of years older than Remilia.

"Which I'm certain you don't even have to try much!"

"What do you mean?"

"You know what I mean!" Yuriko laughed, leading Remilia back to the pathway she hungrily paced through earlier. Now, even more humans - visitors and staff alike - were present at the area. The two passed through some of the stands until the brunette lady halted in front of a small group of people. Just like the other teams (or at least, Remilia viewed them as teams, as she observed how determined they were in working together), they were getting sets of outlets ready for show.

"Well, I am a fast learner," The orange-haired girl raised her eyebrows proudly, completely losing the lady's point.

"Right you are," Yuriko let out the most amused chortle, which left Remilia in a tad of confusion.

Speaking of leaving...

"Manager! There are a few fresh volunteers here!"

"Ah, yes. Coming!"

The festival manager had to leave the younger one as soon as she had dropped Remilia off to her respective stand, gave her a briefing of her responsibilities, and left for the next volunteer.

"Wait--" Remilia called out, but Yuriko had already faded in the growing crowd. "Whatever. I'll find him this time!" she pumped a fist.

She looked down to see a piece of white cloth facing her. Printed on it was the word
VOLUNTEER. Remilia had the slightest feeling that it was meant to be worn, so like the other few volunteers now getting ready in their respective stalls, she tied it around her head. She briefly scanned a parchment from her shoulder bag - one that was among the package that had been sent to her just some days before she left for the human world. The information precisely matched those of the boy she met earlier, but she had to be sure.

She stared at the candy apples before her, ready to be sold and made money with. With a mischievous glint in her eye, Remilia took one and enthusiastically placed one in her mouth.
"Delicious!" Just one wouldn't hurt after all.

Satoshi Kentaro

Staggering, Satoshi made his way through the crowd while carrying what seemed to be the fiftieth batch of boxes. Though, despite how many times he wobbled and lose his footing at times, the boy was still evidently full of spunk and spirit, since he was still able to ramble to himself on why the stack of boxes was taller than him.

"And, there."

Satoshi huffed, placing the last stack of boxes on the stall as he crouched on the floor. Looking around, he noticed that the preparations were nearly completed and the place looked livelier than before, specially with all the people–mainly, volunteers–running around the said area. However, among those group of volunteers, one seemed to be greatly devoted to her work, as she tirelessly paced back and forth from various groups of volunteers.
"Hmm. Maybe she's the leader." Satoshi muttered as he glanced at a kimono-wearing woman.

"Who is?" A sudden voice entered Satoshi's ears, greatly surprising the boy. Satoshi looked up to see a frail, old woman grinning down on him. "You seemed very spaced out there, young man." The lady chuckled and turned her back to the boy to reach out for something in the back of the stall. "Well, no matter. For a boy like you to work hard, you certainly deserve a reward." Facing Satoshi, she handed him a stick of cotton candy. "Thank you, lad."

Satoshi looked at the treat before batting his attention back to the woman.
"Is this okay, baa-san? Aren't you supposed to sell this?" The boy asked as he took a bite on the said airy, but sweet treat.

"You say that, but you're already eating it." The old woman gave him a flat look before chuckling when Satoshi realized that she was right.

"Kentaro!"A familiar voice whom he assumed as Karasawa, called out from a distance. At this, Satoshi gave the old woman a last look, "Then, thanks, baa-san!" He said and ran off to the giant, Karasawa.

"What's that, Kentaro?" Karasawa glared at the brunette who was peacefully munching on the treat given to him. "Nevermind. Now that everything's in place, the festival is going to start. Since you weren't here earlier, Yuriko-san has given us our individual jobs. Ours is to patrol the area."

Raising an eyebrow, Satoshi stopped eating, the candy all over the edges of his mouth.
"Yuriko-san? Who's that? A girl you're trying to woo?"

Immediately, Karasawa's face turned bright pink.
"N-N-No, you brat! She's the manager of this festival! Let's just do our jobs, little twerp." The giant said and started to walk. Chuckling, Satoshi followed after him, continuing to enjoy his delectable treat. "Do our jobs, pfft. You just want to look cool in front of Yuri--"

Prior to him finishing his sentence, the titan was gone, much to the brunette's surprise.
"Huh? Where did he go?"Satoshi blinked, his eyes scanning for the six footer muscle-head. When he finally caught something huge in his sight, Satoshi ran towards it, only to see another huge thing, rather, problem.

Karasawa caught the orange-haired foreigner from earlier, eating a candy apple in display.

"What are you looking at?"
She stared at the huge man who paused in front of her and the stall she was in care of. As he continued to wordlessly stare at her with what looked like bewilderment, Remilia felt impatient. Taking another bite off her candy apple, she raised an eyebrow at him questioningly. She never understood nor liked men. It was something that originated from her bad relationship with her father.

The mere thought of her father irked her even more. Just looking at the man reminded her of him now.
That blonde, stupid, ugly, old man! Her mood was now as vehement as the bright color of her hair. Taking a greater bite from the candy apple, Remilia exclaimed. "Hey!"

The man looked even more surprised now. The orange-haired girl snapped from her annoyed state, throwing the remains of the treat she had just been eating into a trash bin beside her. The man's gaze drifted to the cloth tied around Remilia's head. She glowered, as if saying,
That's right. I'm a volunteer.

Some people paused to inspect the commotion. Among those people, a familar, tall brunette brushed against the crowd, heading towards the two.

"Y-You're not supposed to eat those, miss." The fleshy man spoke, his deep voice wavering at the slightest. Remilia could tell that he was trying to speak in a calm and stern manner. This was something that most of the older and more mature people would do, to keep her in control.

"What do you mean?" Remilia looked down at the tray of sugary-coated apples, losing the mood to crack a joke - possibly something like: It was just a taste test! or Didn't we do this all the time? Oh wait - who are you? Oh, right! I'm still in the human world!; although he may not be able to understood the latter. Instead, she just bowed in front of the man before he could say anything else. She just wanted the ruckus to end.

"My apologies. It was my fault." She muttered, just as she did so every time to the teachers or faculty members of her school. She showed an apologetic expression as she did so. They would think that she felt regretful, with her eyes almost drooping and her lips into a pout.

I forgot that I'm not in Aeria Academy, she added, but only in her mind.

"Karasawa-san!" Yuriko called out finally approaching her stall. With a flash of a concerned look, the brunette gave she older man a pat on the shoulder. "Thank you for the good work." The man (whose name Remilia now knew, and who now also knew of her identity) scratched his head with a laugh. "Go easy on Remilia-chan though! She's just an innocent girl!"

Yuriko spoke on about how she had just met Remilia, and how it was fine for
Karasawa-san to put the orange-haired girl off his list. Soon, the crowd that formed around them dispersed, and the festival was back to its normal pace.

"Feel free to taste as much as you like, but make sure to sell thrice as much!" Yuriko winked at Remilia, then waved a hand at the huge man. Before anyone else could say anything, the lady had drifted off to some other stalls.

"If you say so," Remilia said with a knowing smile. Little did anyone else know that her hands were busy making magic - literally - below her, and behind the candy apple stall.

Satoshi Kentaro

Among his friends, colleagues, and family, Satoshi Kentaro was known for only one thing, and that was being a non-stop chatterbox who did nothing but talk away. Rarely does he stand perfectly still in a corner with a tightly closed lip, but when he does, it's usually because of something trivial, yet astonishing at the same time. This situation was no exception to that. Yes, for once, Satoshi stood in the sidelines, eating the rest of his cotton candy while observing the scenario in front of him play out on its own.

"Pfft~ Tottsan looks like he's going to burst." With an amused smile, Satoshi licked off the remains of his sugary treat, before chucking it out in the trash and continuing to observe in the side. From the giant, Satoshi's gaze shifted to the ginger girl. Somehow, she looked different than earlier. Gone was the earnest expression that she had when she was with Rei earlier and was replaced by what Satoshi assumed as irritation. However, despite knowing this, Satoshi was still on standby.

"Now, then. How will Karasawa-san handle this?"

As soon as Satoshi muttered the thought to himself, Karasawa finally made his move, rather awkwardly, at that. Nevertheless, seeing how straightforward his response was, this brought a wider, yet, more genuine smile to Satoshi's face. It wasn't everyday that Karasawa would stand up to a female, since, usually, he'd require Satoshi's assistance to deal with them. However, for the first time, he did and to a foreign girl, at that. Fortunately, the girl seemed to accept her mistake without any problems and Karasawa got a reward, as well.

Barging into the scene was the girl who Satoshi assumed as the manager and judging by the way Karasawa sheepishly interacted with her, Satoshi's assumption about the girl had changed. That girl was probably the Yuriko-san that the giant was talking about.
"Despite the rush, she still managed to stop by, huh? Tottsan looks extremely happy, though." Satoshi muttered, listening to Yuriko's statements. There, he found out that the ginger's name and that she was a volunteer, as well.

After a few minutes, Karasawa made his way to Satoshi, trying to hide the silly grin on his face with a cough.
"L-Let's continue our patrol, shall we, Kentaro?"

Deciding not to make fun of him despite itching to do so, Satoshi merely nodded and followed the giant. With one last glance at the person who remained on the candy apple stall, Satoshi unconsciously mumbled under his breath,
"Remilia, huh?"
