Multiple Settings Beckoncall's Group RP Concept Resurrection Thread.

... Actually, you know what? Beck, how involved are the gods/religion like in these early days of mankind? I'm thinking of playing prototypical paladins/clerics. The pioneers of 'philosophy' and 'theology' amongst humans in this early age.

What exactly are the Scraol? Are they intelligence people or like powerful monsters?

the images I posted got across what they look like, but basically they're powerful sapient monsters that are sadistically intelligent. Very, very evil, only come out at night and avoid light, but they are cunning and very physically powerful.

during chargen everyone will get a cultural marvel -- religion could be one of them, or food preservation, or something like archery... something primitive but powerful in the context of cavepeople. The basic religion for folk without the "tech" is animism -- that items or animals have spirits that can convey power... more sophisticated religious "tech" would be part of the game, started with, developed, or copied/stolen.

Yeah. I think that settles it. I'm going to be a crafting clan!

Sounds good! looking forward to the discord and chargen once you have it up!

....

dibs on being the first? :P

What exactly are the Scraol? Are they intelligence people or like powerful monsters?
As illustrated above, Scraol are monstrous humanoids that are preferential hunters of humans. It is speculated up to 80% of a scraols diet is humans, followed behind by fibrous plants required to process them in their digestive tracts. Humans can only speculate how intelligent they are, because their animal cunning is far more pronounced, and few to no close encounters or observations have been made by people to tell the tale. Some elders say the eyes of a Scraol betray their intelligence... those that have fought them seldom see a scraol eye to eye and live.

The above pictures Listed are accurate for Scraol. I would post more, but it can wait for the discord.
The average scraol is 8 foot tall, covered in muscle, and always operate in packs. They only seem to fear fire -- and perceive humans that do not constantly move around as a threat, and humans that do -- as prey.

Essentially, to settle down is to 'stand your ground'. And Scraol, for all their power and intelligence... are predators.

And a predator does not want to fight a united herd of prey, facing them head on. The prey need to be scared, injured, ill, weak.

I have thought to try the Sunborne again, but balanced between martial and either crafting or enchanting. Probably crafting, as it will probably be much more useful.

If King of Monsters is the end of Sunborne history, then this roleplay would look back on their beginning. The formation of the Sunborne as a culture and people from a time when they bathed in the light of the Most Holy.

Hm.... If you run with that, then i'd shift focus from 'religion' to 'philosophy'- rather than the reverence and support of higher powers, the spirituality and introspection to give meaning to ideals. Martial Arts/Magical Philosophy and that sort of thing.

You don't need to change things necessarily. Our Gods could be allied, joined in their shared hatred for the Scraol or their shared vision for humanity. Up to you, though. ^_^

The more I think about it the more I like the idea of my tribe's 'thing' being Martial Philosophy- the very roots of 'martial arts'. The ability to conceptualize and codify fighting techniques.

Are there any basic parameters for the human tribes?

darth darth I'm glad you asked.

Some things to think about regarding the mechanics of tribe/char generation -- More information will be done in discord, but there are basically 5 steps to making your chief and tribe.

1) The terrain you come from (river, woods, shore, cliffs) -- these give you starting resources, but also govern the things your tribe might know best, or know that other tribes may not. Ie, people of the river are the best at fishing, while cliffs best at climbing, etc.)

2) Who your Elder/Leader is. This covers the subject of classes, talents and skills for your main character.

3) Devotion -- There are eight devotions. Four Sorceries and Four Elementals -- Nature, Bone, Blood, Astral and Fire, Air, Water, Earth. Devotion has an effect on culture, knowledge, mysticism, and is the basis for any magic the tribe may employ. (for example luck/fate would fall under astral devotion, and Necromancy would fall under Bone devotion)

4) Tribal Perks -- This is a special item/tool/artefact, a totem animal/mount, or two special resources that have cultural/practical applications.

5) Monument -- the monument starts off basic and is built up with add'l resources, but what it is can be flexible. Is it a barrow? A cairn? A statue? a Pyramid? A maze? some other effigy? It is just a heap of stuff? what it is may have an effect on culture and knowledge... and the degree it develops conveys bonuses to the tribe. The tribe with the biggest/most powerful monument has cultural advantages and can project it's culture onto other tribes.

Go Nature Devotion, build giant never ending hedgemaze for lawls.

Sounds fun, can't wait to talk more in discord!

I am most certainly intrigued by Dawn of Man: Monuments, so will pop a DM!
