Dope as F*ck
I haven't started an RP for a while. I've GMed for action/adventure based RPs. But I wanna start up an RP based on the Caster Chronicles (Beautiful Creatures & Co): a young adult book series, by the authors Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, which takes place in a supernatural setting.
For anyone unfamiliar with the book series, the Caster Chronicles is set in the fictional town of Gatlin, South Carolina. The books follows main character Ethan Wate as he struggles to fit into the life of the mysterious and beautiful Lena Duchannes, a girl capable of extraordinary things. I don't want to spoil the story for anyone who hasn't read it and is looking into reading a copy, so I'll leave my summary to that.
~An Explanation~
As for the RP I have planned. It takes place in an entirely AU, meaning none of the story's events have happened, although much of the source material will be reflective in bits of plot and world building for this RP. But do not fear, there will be no spoilers of the books. Well besides the supernatural beings and places.
This includes things such as:
Since this story will be consisting of original characters, I might need to clear a few things up:
Casters: A Caster is a "higher being" with the ability to use magic, known as casting. Casters are technically human, but contain a supernatural essence. Making them higher and more enlightened than normal humans. A Caster, except the Duchannes Family, is able to choose whether he or she wants to become Light (good) or Dark (evil), depending on their true nature, personality, and at any time. Casters can both theoretically and practically be considered witches, warlocks, wizards or sorcerers; however, they prefer the term Caster as it is unique and carries no Satanic innuendos as Casters have been persecuted in the past as Devil worshipers.
Lycanthropes(Added in): More commonly known as a "werewolf", and a Dark being. An Afflicted Lycanthrope, or Lycan for short, is what a Lycan is referred to when they are exposed to natural Moon Light of the Full Moon. They become hairier, bulkier, and transform into the typical werewolf. Most of the time, a Lycan possesses a normal human appearance but are naturally stronger, faster than humans. They also retain the heightened senses of a wolf when not afflicted.
Keepers: Mortal Humans who are tasked with upkeep of the Caster Library as well as observing their world. Once becoming a Keeper, one cannot interfere with Caster affairs or they will be ejected from their job as Keeper not allowed within the library. But they can interfere in Mortal affairs and often do prevent most Waywards from finding who they are bound to. They serve no greater purpose than observation and providing Casters with the knowledge they are seeking.
Seer: A human mortal who is able to contact the dead. They are born with this gift but their extent is limited. They are also able to tell the future via tarot cards and in some rare cases, visions. Seers are knowledgable of the Caster World and usually serve contemporary roles to aid Casters. Or they serve no role at all. They are able to create charms to ward evil sheers. All Seers are born Seers, it is not possible to become one later in life.
Wayward: An extremely rare mortal who is said to always find the way. They are like a compass, and are tasked with finding "the right path" within the Caster world. Waywards are rare because they are bound to a Caster of "great importance" but are usually killed off by Keepers that seek to keep the balance of The Order.
Incubi and Succubi: Demons that feed on blood and are unable to be out in direct sunlight. Incubi are the male of the species and are generally weaker overall than their female counterparts, the Succubus. However, an Incubus is extremely stronger than a human by a large amount. The extent of their abilities are unknown and they are almost completely indistinguishable from humans. The key differences being their black eyes when having recently consumed blood. These creatures are Dark by nature, but they possess a free will and are able to consume dreams instead of blood. Incubi and Succubi that consume dreams usually side with the Light, even though they can never be apart of it.
Bokor: Simply put, a human practitioner of voodoo and voodoo-like rituals. There are not many Bokor and are very seclusive. Not much else is known about them besides their voodoo capablities and hexes are stronger than the charms used by Seers.
~The Plot(Rough Draft)~
In the small southern town of Hartsfield, Louisiana, lives the center of all things supernatural. Things like ghost sightings, supposed werewolves, and voodoo queens. And for a long of time its inhabitants had lived alongside these beings without truly knowing of their existence. That all changed one day during a battle in the Civil War, just outside of town.
A caster named William Duchannes changed the fate of his sister, Margaret, a female caster who was doomed to die on her sixteenth birthday. William was a lowly soldier in the Confederate Army, was soon to step onto the battlefield as the Union approached. But Margaret refused to let her brother march to his suicide.
It was written that William Duchannes restored the life of his sister that day. She was going to use the Book of Moons to end the battle before a single shot was taken, but the young girl didn't have a chance to cast the spell. Left wracked with guilt, William sought to bring his beloved sister back, no matter the cost. But Margaret was not same. What once was a pure heart was now dark, and her eyes golden. In that moment William's beloved sister, became his murderer
Using the Book of Moons came with a price and that price was a curse that has been passed down through the generations within the Duchannes heritage. Any descendant of Margaret Duchannes was to be claimed by the Book of Moons on their Sixteenth birthday. And on that day, their true name will be revealed to them.
This literally split the family. Any Dark Caster would be ostracized and shut out from the rest of the family. Regardless of their choice. It's all for the good of the family. But this didn't stop the Casters from living their lives in secret, choosing to hide their abilities from the mortals surrounding them.
For a while, the Duchannes have avoided living in Hartsfield, even though they have owned the beautiful Crestwood Manor for over a century, that is until Valorie Duchannes moved in. The oldest, and arguably, most powerful living Light Duchannes caster.
But not too long after, more of her family had been moving in too and both the Caster world, and the Mortal world, began to crumble. There's a storm coming, and the Duchannes might be the ones who've started it, but it'll take everyone one to stop it.

~An Explanation~
This includes things such as:
- The Order — The natural order of both the Caster and Mortal World. It's divided into two halves. Light and Dark.
- The Light — Everything good about both worlds is the embodiment of the Light.
- The Dark — The literal embodiment of everything bad about the world falls under the Dark.
- Otherworld — Not Heaven nor Hell, but an actual separate place. The Otherworld is home to spirits who have not passed and Sheers (spirits with unfinished business). It's actual appearance is unknown and is usually reminiscent of the town or place you've grown up
- Supernaturals — Any being that is not human is a supernatural.
- The Caster World — Not a literal other world, but rather the entirety of abnormal things that fall under supernatural categorization.
- The Book of Moons — An ancient book of magic. It can be used when the moon is at it's apex, and if the user makes a "trade". It can be used to rewrite fate.
Since this story will be consisting of original characters, I might need to clear a few things up:
- We will be using the Duchannes(Pronounced Dew-Kane) family as the MAIN source of Casters, but consisted of original characters. They are cursed to either fall to the Light or the Dark. In addition to Casters, there are many different supernatural beings in this world, but I highly suggest nothing too whimsical. Like Centaurs and such. Supernaturals should not be too distinguishable from normal.
- There is no gray area in the Supernatural World, you are either Light or Dark. A normal Caster is capable of choosing but most supernatural beings are either Dark or Light by nature. It is possible for a Dark being to side with the Light, but they are technically still Dark. If someone is bound to the Light, they cannot side with the Dark without turning completely evil/Dark.
- Humans are not bound by the Light or the Dark. They are not capable of casting any kind of magic either, but there are some humans who are capable of contacting the deceased, or performing some sort of clairvoyant feat or magical feat.
- Casters in the Duchannes family are cursed and are usually "claimed", for either the Light or Dark on their sixteenth birthday, which always falls on a full moon. The nature of their ability and personality are usually the deciding factor in their claiming. In other words, if your character is under 16 and you choose for them to be claimed. Take it up with me which side you believe they best fit on, or rather let me be the one who decides their fate. (Don't worry, I'll evaluate your character and decide their claiming accordingly.)
~Playable Species (Some may be added later.)~
Caster abilities: Casters usually all possess telekinesis of some extent as well as the ability to perform basic spells (called casts) and most rituals. Besides these abilities, Casters are limited to the type of ability they manifest. These abilities are either Dark or Light, depending on their nature. But in some cases, the ability won't translate to whether the Caster is Light or Dark. Some abilities are the same as others but are referred to differently depending on the side.
- Cataclyst: Casters who are able to influence the elements and weather easily. The equivalent of a Natural who turned Dark. It is unknown if they have the exact same potential and powers as that of a Natural. (Always Dark.)
- Cypher: Casters who are able to translate any language they come into contact with, see invisible force-fields and detect a Caster SOS. (Usually Light.)
- Diviner: Casters who are able to see into the future and are the Caster equivalent of Seers. (Can be Light or Dark.)
- Empath: Casters who are able to duplicate the powers of other Casters for a certain period of time. (Can be Light or Dark.)
- Evanescent: Casters who are able to make objects disappear out of any location and make them reappear in their possession. The Caster equivalent of magicians and thieves. (Usually Dark.)
- Evo: Casters who are able to influence people, like Sirens can, but they can also Evolve/Morph into anyone they want and borrow the powers of any Caster they touch. They are incredibly powerful Casters. (More than likely to be Dark, but extremely rare.)
- Illusionist: Casters who are able to create illusions and glamours, making things look like others, without it being real. (Can be light or Dark.)
- Mindhunting: Casters who are able to roam through one's mind and sense disturbances and anomalies, they are not mind readers and the exact abilities aren't specified. (Can be Light or Dark.)
- Natural: Casters who are able to influence the elements and the weather easily. They are known as the most powerful Casters in the Caster world, they have plenty of different powers that they can awaken at any time. (Always Light.)
- Necromancer: Casters who are able to communicate with spirits and Sheers and bring them back to the world of the living. They are able to communicate with spirits and Sheers far better than a Seer could. (More than likely Dark.)
- Palimpsest: Casters that are able to see the past and present at the same time, these Casters can sometimes mix up what happened and what is happening, often being confused to others. (Almost always Light.)
- Shifter: Casters who are able to shift objects into others, temporarily or permanently.
- Siren: Female Casters who are able to bend the will of mortals through seduction and make them do or say anything they want. They are typically seductresses who utilize feminine charm and sexual allure to control men. (Always Dark.)
- Sybil: Casters who are able to discover the truth behind the lies, seeing what they have done, who they have seen, where they have been, secrets, things they are planning to do, their past, present and bits and pieces of their future and much more just by looking at a person's face. (Usually Light, but can be Dark as well.)
- Telepath: Casters who are able to read the minds of others and communicate with others by means of thinking. (Can be Light or Dark.)
- Thaumaturge: Casters who are able to heal injuries and wounds. (Always Light.)
