Theresa Varns a.k.a. Tessa Beastie​

PersonalityAs much as she doesn't like to admit it Tessa can be impulsive, hot-headed, and wild. But this does not mean that she cannot have some self-control. At times she can be level-headed and hold still...for a little bit. So patience and placidity are not her thing, but her passion and desire for others to be happy fuel her endless energy.

Tessa's very perceptive of others and intuitive of most things. Don't think that Tessa is dense about things, she can actually pinpoint things pretty spot-on. She may be a wild gal but when it comes to observing others and the situation she can be very still. Like a hunter hunting its prey.

When it comes to trust, Tessa can be finicky about it. Some individuals she'll trust immediately (as much as she doesn't want to, she just does) while others must go through a series of trials under Tessa standards to earn it. But the standards vary from person to person. Usually she starts by staying distant from the person she met. She will then observe them to paint her picture of them. Tessa may want to further pursue a relationship with some individuals but she may want to stay as acquaintances with most of them. Unconsciously she does this to not inflict emotional pain on herself. For a gal who may seem tough and rough on the outside, she is rather sensitive and somewhat broken from past relationships.

With a sensitive side though, Tessa holds much love for many people. She is caring, empathetic, and compassionate. But do not think for moment that she cannot push past this side and lash out. Tessa can be cold, rude, insensitive, and intrusive at times. And when it comes down to it, she has the ability to kill. So long as there is a higher reason that can justify her actions. This fact scares Tessa but not enough to stop her from harming those she sees deserving of it.

Tessa grew up with a mother but no father. Her parents split before she was even a year old. This didn't affect Tessa too much though since her bum of an uncle was there to help raise her. Tessa's uncle was a bum under Maria's eyes since he changed jobs often, not really wanting to stick to one. As much as Maria wanted to kick out her brother, she couldn't find the heart to kick out Tessa's "father figure". Although he turned out to be the one to fire up Tessa's craziness. But the time that Tessa spent with her uncle was exciting. They went to the skate park, rode in the sketchiest of amusement park rides, visited zoos, etc. How could they afford all this? Well turned out they couldn't afford it all. Tessa's uncle took it upon himself to find a way to provide money. Which brought him to drug trafficking. This enabled him to earn money and blow it completely out.

Tessa and her mother were not aware of the type of work he was involving himself in, they were simply trusting him when he simply told him that he was there to support them. But eventually a slip-up occurred with his work and Tessa became a liability. Tessa's uncle lost a truckload of drugs that were to be delivered to a partnering drug lord. This of course did not settle well with his boss.

Tessa was kidnapped by a drug lord when she was 9. It was a horrible experience. She was held by chains and physically abused. This lasted for a day until her uncle found her. Although her rescue didn't go so smoothly. Her uncle was nearly beaten to death until Tessa intercepted. How though? Well watching her uncle crumble beneath the drug lord frightened and angered her. So much so that a power she did not realized that she had inherited from her absent blood father awakened due to so much stress and anger. Turning first into an elephant, Tessa broke through the chains freeing herself and squashing those who held her captive. Once she was free she swiftly changed into a tiger and viciously tore through the bodies of those who opposed her. Bloody and scarred, Tessa managed to drag her uncle away from the mess.

Despite leaving the drug world alive, Tessa's uncle fell into a coma from the fight. Tessa confronted her mother about what happened who then told her the whole truth of her lineage. That Tessa was the grand-daughter of Garfield Logan, Beast Boy, and that her father was the son of Beast Boy, Beastion. Maria finally told her daughter the reason why she and her father divorced was due to his work in the superhero business. Maria and her daughter were to be kept a secret from the life of Matthew Logan in order to prevent any leverage. Maria disliked the emptiness of not having her husband around so she finalized the end between them. But as soon as Tessa told her mother about her first transformation, word somehow reached the League and they responded promptly. They aided Tessa's mom into getting a degree for information technology and provided assistance with Tessa in combat training, at least in her human form.

Tessa couldn't fully transform into an animal after the first time. Her powers had awakened but not fully. As much as she wanted to be a normal girl, Tessa decided to work on this ability of hers. Tessa would spend most of her days researching and studying various types of animals and their anatomies hoping that seeing the images would inspire her abilities to function well. Slowly Tessa was able to fully transform but only for ten seconds. This didn't discourage Tessa though, in fact it riled her up to continue for longer transformations. Every day Tessa trained her body to hold the transformation. After two years she found herself holding a transformation for 30 minutes. But that was all she has managed to set it to after all these years. Now at 17, Tessa can hold a transformation for 30 minutes only and her uncle still stays in his comatose state.

After Alcatraz
The League promised that Tessa could meet her father soon. Turned out Tessa was destined to never meet her father. Even though she had never met her father, the news of Alcatraz dealt a major blow to Tessa. She felt connected to him in the sense that she inherited his power, but now she would never meet her hero. Her deep sadness influenced Tessa to transform into a goldfish. The thing was she stayed in this form for over a week. She couldn't change back for some reason. It was frightening. But her mother helped her through it. Her mother stayed by her side the whole time to calm her down. Finally she changed back into her human form.

The feeling of having no control over her power drove Tessa to learn to control her powers better. When an email, full of information about her father and her ability, came Tessa's way she felt even more compelled to hone her abilities. The only way to do that was to join the Titans.

Weaknesses

• Tessa can only transform for 30 mins at a time.
• She has a terrible fear of the dark from her past experiences. So much so that she even sleeps with lights on all night.
• As stated before, her trust in others can be weird but especially towards males. Generally she distrusts all of them at first.
• Emotions are influential in her transformations. With emotions such as sadness and anger, she can change easily and stay in her form longer. But this can pose as a danger when she cannot change back.
