Beacons of Hope
As the World Caves In by Matt Maltese
filler thing. ignore
The year is 2562. At this point in time, many different species of humanoid creatures have been found all over the world- including dryads, elves, and different forms of human/animal hybrids, mainly bipeds. With the evolution of science and medicine, cyborgs were not uncommon. Science and medicine have evolved more than ever before, to help care for these newly discovered species.
Yet with this evolving world, there was still a common belief that there were gods of eight elements- such elements that would protect the planet and save it when the time came.
Three years ago, an entire town was overtaken by an unknown deity, the Entity as they call it, one that soon took over the planet with iron force. All hell broke loose, and many were killed brutally by the Entity and its many gangs of grublins and golems and wyverns. Others were killed further when they tried to rebel against the Entity’s rule. The rest now fight to survive, no longer able to gather up any courage to fight. All hope has been lost.
At the same time, there were reports in several areas of the world where people went missing without a trace. Despite the best efforts of their families, local police, and everyone in between, they were never recovered. Not even remains were found.
Three years later, a glimmer of hope arose. A group of people with psychic abilities, known as the Guardians of the Elementals, discovered these missing people encased in crystals. And oddly enough, the crystals had properties of the elemental gods whose secrets the Guardians preserved. These crystals were found underground in the midst of the chaos and confusion, and with exposure to air, the crystals shattered. It was discovered that these people had something special… Powers. Depending on the color of the crystals they were found in, these humans had the ability to wield any of the eight forms of magic that the gods had wielded. These recovered people were soon dubbed the Crystal Beacons.
All of these elements are unruly in their own rights, and they must be trained to be tamed. This is why, as soon as they were discovered, the Crystal Beacons were sent to a remote location, one which seemed uninhabitable due to the damage of scorched earth and thick ashy air. But this was only on the surface. In this location were many caves that were connected by a network of tunnels. Beneath these caves lied a city much like the ones that prospered many millennia before the Entity entered this world. It was a wonderful city, with towers of stone and terracotta, temples everywhere, and the statued remnants of the gods who were once worshiped- the ones who blessed our heroes with their powers.
This was the secure base of the Beacons of Hope. Within the temples of the gods they trained, within the security of the caves they thrived. The crystals lining the caves were a luxury and a great form of defense indeed this place kept them hidden for many months. Helping watch over the base were, of course, the Guardians. They did their best to make sure that the Beacons were safe and trained to the best of their abilities.
Of course, this wasn’t to last. The world grew ever bleaker, and the enemy drew nearer and nearer. This was a problem, as the Guardians were having a harder time keeping the base hidden. After all, the initial aim was for the Beacons to be hidden until they were ready to fight back with full force. They weren’t even close to ready for that fight. Not yet.
Still, they waited. And they trained. The Guardians were able to keep the Entity’s forces back with shards of the crystals they used.
One day, the base was swarmed. The Beacons were whisked away, and the Guardians used more shards to fend off the enemy troops. While they did well, a new enemy approached and wiped them all out…
…With the exception of one. One of the younger Guardians, Aurelius, managed to escape with the Beacons. They fled into another labyrinth of caverns from underneath the city to flee. But where did they go? Where else was there to go?
...Up. There was one final area that the Entity had not managed to touch. The oldest temple of the planet rested on a series of floating islands, and was only reachable by those who possessed the power of Wind. With his help, the Beacons made it to safety… where they remain to this day. Here they are, under the direction of their head guardian Aurelius, waiting for the day they can finally come out of hiding…

Treat others with respect
- Please treat everyone with respect in both the roleplay and in the Discord server.
- Communication
- Communication is key in everything we do, but especially in this roleplay. When it comes to character interactions, make sure all parties are on board with what you have planned. If you need additional time to post, please speak up. If you can no longer be in the roleplay, or if something is wrong, please let me know.
- Length of posts
- I don’t need a novel, no worries! That being said, this roleplay is at least semi-literate. As long as the other players have something to bounce off of, shorter posts are fine!
- Length between posts
- I won’t have a set schedule, but the rule of thumb is to have a post once every two weeks if we can. If you’re in an interaction and unable to post, we will have to keep moving forward. Please refer to the rule on communication, if this is the case.
- THIS IS AN 18+ ROLEPLAY!
- Due to themes that may be referenced (mentions of death, swearing, etc.), I ask that players who join are at least 18 years old.
- We are a LGBTQ+ friendly group.
- If this is an issue for you, please do not request to join. I want to make sure everyone in the roleplay has a safe space, regardless of identity. I myself am a non-binary lesbian.
- Have fun~!
- Enough said.
Rules
Elemental Abilities
- Fire- One who wields this ability can control fire. This means that they are able to start small fires through the palms of their hands and can deflect fire attacks. Further, they can control a fire that has already been started and utilize it to attack their opponents. No, they cannot breathe fire. Best with wind.
- Electricity- Similarly, those with electricity are able to send out currents of electricity towards their opponents and- if strong enough- can channel smaller bolts of lightning through themselves and towards their opponents. No, they cannot channel entire lightning storms or summon a giant bolt of lightning.
- Ice- Those who wield ice can drop the temperature of the air around them and withstand temperatures up to -3 degrees Celsius (25 degrees Fahrenheit). They are able to freeze their opponents with contact, and if given enough liquid, are able to freeze up some projectiles. This works best with the wind element.
- Earth- Those with the earth ability are able to solidify mud into rock and hurl projectiles of rock at opponents. They are also able to create a temporary armor of mud or sand, which makes a great defense.
- Poison- Those who wield poison can create their own venom and are immune to venom attacks. Very useful for assassination, if they’re okay with spitting in drinks. No, they cannot turn anything into poison.
- Fear- Those who wield fear can emit high-pitched sound waves that can strike fear in those who hear. Please be cautious around these Beacons, because their waves do not discriminate. Always use earplugs.
- Wind- Those with the wind element can create small tornadoes and moderate wind storms. They are also able to use bursts of air to throw projectiles or carry fire forward. No, they cannot create hurricanes.
- Shadow- Those who wield shadow are able to hide themselves in even the smallest of shadows. They can strike whenever they get the opportunity, and often use a strike of shadows, which will surround the enemy and disorient them for five minutes. Oftentimes the opponent will attack their own allies within this time. Proceed with caution.
Bestiary
Grublins - Can take two different appearances, either overgrown house flies or odd little buggers that are hard to accurately describe. They carry melee weapons of all kinds, and they’re very weak on their own. However, their best strategy is to crowd you in hordes. Don’t let them.
Hero Grublins - A type of Grublin that wears special armor. They usually lead groups of Grublins. The thing that makes them most irksome? The dark energy they wield, complete with sparks, that delivers a powerful hit if they get you.
Orcs - These are the second most common enemy you’ll come across. They have a couple different weapons they primarily use- axes or crossbows. Normally they’ll pop up with Grublins, about one or two Orcs at a time, but they’re a real headache when they appear in hordes.
Hero Orcs - A much larger type of Orc that can be a headache to deal with if encountered. Typically they take on the role of commander in the Entity’s forces. They are large and wield shields, which makes hitting them just a tad harder. They also have spiked clubs that they can swing around, which pack a punch.
Wyverns - A type of Grublin that looks similar to a dragon. They send blasts of dark energy from their mouths, and are very agile. They’re harder to hit than normal Grublins.
Trolls - The hardest hitters of the Entity’s forces. They can jump high and far, and their fists can cause shockwaves when they strike the ground. Proceed with the highest caution.
Elite Enemies - These are any type of enemy at a first glance. The thing that makes them odd is the mask they wear- the color of the mask correlates to what element can knock it off their face. They are much stronger than their maskless counterparts- if you see them, run.
