There were moments of Gold and there were flashes of light

Bruce didn’t like being exposed and in the open like this… but it was necessary for business appearances. Although beastie and mythical beings walking around didn’t make anyone blink nowadays, he still preferred to keep to the shadows. Scaly skin, sharp teeth, and his over all cold blooded appearance often spooked people… Bruce knew, or assumed, he looked like the ugly monster he was so it was hard for him to stand on this platform in a suit in front of all of these people.

“Welcome everyone, Wamazon’s 5 year anniversary party.” Grace’s voice rang out like a bell over the crowd. Luckily, Bruce only had to stand there… he didn’t need to speak. Well, he physically could not speak, but that was aside from the point. Grace was mild mannered and quick to read his moods and adjust accordingly. She had only been on Bruce’s payroll for a few months, but so far she was the best translator he’d had. Another ‘perk’ of being an alligator demon? No vocal cords. It was hard to run a fake company without them, but Bruce managed.

“The yacht has begun it journey along the coast. We will dock again in roughly 3 hours. Please enjoy yourselves, and keep an ear out for any announcements and games later. On behalf of Mr Sable and Wamazon, thank you for your support. We really appreciate you.”


It was lame, but Bruce didn’t know what else to write when he prepared this speech. A hint of red rose to his cheeks as the music began and Grace led him off the stage. Wamazon was the front for a drug cartel, it just so happened to begin to Boom with online shopping. Most of the people here knew that, but but not the media or the all of the elected officials on board. Did he blow it with that speech? Were people questions wether or not he could do this? If he was a legit CEO?

I’m going to my quarters for a moment. he signed lazily.

“Before you go, you should know that a gift from Hopper inc—“

The demon didn’t stay to let his assistant finish her statement, he quickly made his way below deck. His breathing was heavy and anxiety set in, but he was full blown hyperventilating when he opened his door and walked inside his bedroom. How did he ever let Kyrie talk him into being the face of a company?! He was going to blow it all for them.

“What are you doing?” Mateo asked. Artemis grinned, an illusion of the face of a another man was plastered to his own, but his signature ginger hair remained.

“Well… the dessert table looked a bit bare. I added some Lava cakes.” Artemis replied with a chuckle. “Doesn’t everyone love a good lava cake?” He asked, and then grabbed a glass of water. Mateo chewed the inside of his cheek and watched as the water shifted from translucent to deep dark red.

“Now you’re just showing off.” Mateo quickly took the glass and turned to dump the wine ove board, “We’re only here as backup if Safiya doesn’t manage to land the seduction bit, remember? Just blend in and pretend to be nobodies.” He said, but when he turned Artemis was gone, “Horse feathers…”

TL;DR Val introduced Lyric to Grace. Lyric is encouraging Grace to walk her to the powder room. Safiya is trying to salvage the night while it's young. Kyrie is stuffing his face. Val is concerned - not for the well being of his brother but for the mysterious lurker on the boat.

Quentin Valentine Sable could not believe his eyes, ears or even his nose at this point. He observed the content, rosy faces in the crowd that hung on each word that rolled off of the assistant's tongue. “They're really eating this up...." He shook his head while straightening his posture. “Reassuring to know that the beings of this realm are as simple as ever."

“Like you're any better.”

The clergyman turned his head to the emerald eyed duchess beside him. It was bad enough that he had the pope breathing down his neck for the last week and half, but babysitting his baby brother’s fiancé on his only day off was quickly turning into his thirteenth reason. Not like he could die, anyway. Not with his vow to that damned angel still in tact. "Don't you have a fire hydrant to piss on?"

The lady scratched her nose with her middle finger before taking a sip of wine, "Clever. Did you think about that one before or after you burnt half of the Vatican down."

He immediately looked away, cleared his throat and took a sip of his own. "It was established that there was a flooding and it had to do with the sea level..."

"Of course it did."

Lyric Lesavauge was a fitting surname for a hellion of her lineage. There were rumors about her influence in the North and how her endorsement could easily stabilize their business, regardless of how fast it grows. "Who would've thought...”

When Grace ended the speech, Valentine led the crowd in an applause. "That's my nephew, I'll have you know!" He gloated, rather loudly to those with the misfortune of being within earshot. "Climbing the ranks, bridging together e-commerce with little liability on the buyers end. Aren't we lucky?"

"Careful," Lyric warned, taking the glass from his hand, "We don't want you spilling anything unnecessarily."

“I am a priest. I speak only truths in front of God. If only you did the same you wouldn't have ended up howling to a moon every month."

A snarl escaped Lyric, revealing sharp canines. "Don't you speak of that here..." she hissed.

"Careful," he taunted, taking back his drink, "Don't want you spilling anything unnecessarily." Before Lyric could react, Valentine was already setting her up with a distraction. "Grace! Grace! Do come here, please!"

"What do you think you're doing?!"

"Oh leave Bruce be, he's probably getting some air... Downstairs... Yes, it's a custom... I think - In any case, have you met Lyric Lesauvage? She's a duchess from Hell and Kyrie's bride to be." She scoffed, chugging down the remainder of her drink and slamming it on the tray of a nearby waiter. "Striking resemblance in attitude," The priest grinned, playfully elbowing Grace. "Lyric, you know Grace, she's --"

"...Pleasure to meet your acquaintance, Miss Grace." Lyric curtseyed, ignoring Valentine altogether.

Val stared at the ceiling, “Is that a pig I see flying?“

”Would you mind escorting me to the powder room? This yacht is a little ..." She eyed Valentine, "debilitating."

"You certainly know how to make an entrance!" Safiya exclaimed nervously, fanning the alligator demon with one hand and shoving a paper bag over his mouth with the other. "Breathe through the diaphragm, not the chest!" She stopped fanning him and slapped his bicep, "I said not the chest!"

Yelling at a man about the nuances to breathing was definitely not out of Safiya's typical 9 to 5 but not like this. After a moment of breathing from her own diaphragm, she calmly reached for one of Bruce's hands so he could hold the paper bag on his own. She wiped the sweat off her forehead and took a step back. There were about fifteen scenarios she had thought about before getting into that box and none of them involved this. The witch turned around to face the gator.

"Sorry about that," she said while signing to the alligator demon. "This probably feels more like an attempted burglary than a gift. My employer sent me to... congratulate you." She pointed at the box she came out of. "Ideally, you were the one that should've opened the box like a present but I'm no stranger to a good jack-in-the-box bit."

"As you can tell from the ears and the attire, Hoppers Inc is very dedicated about their aesthetic" she giggled before turning her attention to the ottoman. "Maybe we can start over?" She signed before turning her head back to him. "I made us a charcuterie board! Raw meat is your favorite right?"

There was no denying it.

It had to be...

Kyrie glided past party go-ers and partners alike, even managing to kiss his fiancé on the cheek before making it to the, "Lava cakes?!" The demons brow furrowed as he lifted one cake and threw it in his mouth. The chocolately goo and moistness of the cake was sheer ecstasy. As he reached for another helping, his brother, Valentine slapped his hand away.

Kyrie growled, rubbing his hand. “Quentin, what the hell!”

"Now, now, little brother. We must save these for the rest of the party goers."

The younger devil raised a brow. “Was it you that brought these? How did you know I-“

His hands made its way back to the tray only to get slapped again. This time Valentine was a little peeved at his brother’s nonchalant attitude. ”Know what? Brought what? Had I have known, I wouldn't have done." A third attempt ended in another slap. "Would you do me the HONOR of stop eating things when you don’t know where it came from!”

“The paternal nature does not suit you,” Kyrie huffed.

“It’s hardly paternal - if you die before we secure our assets, the business will implode on all three fronts.”

“Wait, what? What’s the third front?”

“Our father, you dolt. Bruce can't face him yet. Not like this!”

“Oh yikes, yeah. We don’t want that. Q, be a moose and find out who made these lava cakes! I want to ensl— I mean offer them a job!” Before Val could reject his brother’s offer, the younger devil weaseled his way into a conversation with a few businessmen.

The clergyman rolled his eyes and walked back into the crowd, looking for anything out of the ordinary. “This is a madhouse,” he concluded before leaning against a wall, “of course, everything looks out of the ordinary.” It was then that he saw a nervous Mateo. “Enjoying the ambiance?” He called out, moving closer. “Reporter, businessman or butler?”

There were moments of Gold and there were flashes of light

Grace still wasn't One Hundred Percent sure how she got roped into working for actual hellish royalty, yet here she was. Perhaps it was somewhere between Kyrie asking her for that very specific Farmers Market theme MM Smut scenario and her history of dealing drugs at her old university that got her on the Avatar of Greed's good side. Luckily, she wasn't working for him directly, her jobs was to follow his son Bruce around and assist him whatever he needed... Translations, spreadsheets, reservations, breaking knees, lifting curses... Grace was on edge when she first began working for Bruce, especially when her first day consisted of holding his extra ammo as he shot up a sports bar owned by some rival smugglers in order to send a message to stop encroaching on the Sable Territory... But in the end, the zombie gator man turned out to be a big softie who just wanted to his best by his family. It was admirable, since Grace's own family would throw her under a bus when most convenient.

Bruce's nerves were getting to him, which was usually rare, but Grace understood that he wasn't much of a people person. He quickly ran off, and Grace was left to herself for a whole 2 seconds before being summoned by another Hellish Avatar. She supposed if she were going to work with anyone, The avatar of Greed was a lot better than the avatar of Lust. Grace only crossed paths with Val on few and rare occasions, and each time left her mind bulging with material for her Patreon subscribers to reap the benefits of. If she were around him all of the time she doubted she would ever get any work done and only weave scenarios for her imaginary friends to constantly bang each other...

Grace tucked some of her blonde hair behind her ear before her eyes moved from the Priest to the Duchess. Almost instantly, she was figuratively punched in the face with some of the most intense 'Your Daughter calls me Daddy too,' eyes she had ever seen. “Her Grace, Lyric Lesauvage.” the witch said with a nod, showing the noblewoman the respect she deserved by formally addressing her, and savoring how airy and wispy her name felt on her tongue. Grace's heart jumped a bit, already reminding her that she needed to be on her best behavior, not ask too many personal questions, and not allow her imagination to go into over drive... especially when it concerned her employer's bride to be, and even more so because she didn't know what demons could and couldn't read minds.

Could any one on this yacht?

Were they clutching their pearls at the mindless dissociating day dream that involved a deer getting railed by the moon?

Could they hear her thoughts now?

“Oh! Powder room, yes, I can show you that! This way, Your Grace.” The assistant didn't hesitate to take the Duchess's arm and lead her through the crowd of people, “You aren't feeling seasick are you? I have medication for that onboard, I can get you some if it will make you more comfortable.” She offered, and then pushed the door to a free bedroom open and motioned to the attached bathroom. “I'm sorry to say I didn't realize Kyrie-- Mr Sable Senior was engaged. Is it a new engagement? If you need help planning an engagement party, I would be more than happy to lend my services.”

“I- Butler? Pardon, but do reporters, businessmen, and butlers all look the same to you, Father?” Mateo asked, before licking his lips nervously and letting his eyes look over the crowd of party goers once more, still not seeing his newly established Christian Deity. “I'm not anyone of much importance, just here to support my boss... and investor of Wamazon.” He looked over the Priest again and narrowed his eyes. “I suppose they have the church backing them as well? Interesting... I do suppose Christianity is reflecting cooperate America these days... The money, the deceit, the crushing of souls... Oh, Sorry Father... I shouldn't project onto you, I'm sure you're nice enough... I just don't believe that Jesus is the one the Christians are worshipping anymore these days,” Mateo said with a bit of a knowing smirk, as if he was inside of a joke and the priest wasn't.

Which he was... since Jesus was dead and Mateo worked for the guy who ate him. “My name is Mateo, I work in HR for Hopper Inc. We provided the Lava cakes, heard a rumor that it was favorite of the CFO.”

Another glass of water turned into wine while in the hands of Artemis, and this one didn't get dumped out over board, allowing him to drink along with everyone else. He took a second glass of water and turned that one as well, before stepping between his target and a few other business men. “Your hand is empty, friend. This is a party~ Here you go.” he said, before pushing the wine into Kyrie's hand. It was a Zinfadel, sweet and full-bodied with flavors of Black Cherry, Raspberry, and Blackberry... It Artemis knew Kyrie, and he liked to this his beloved hadn't changed too much in the years they've 'matured', then he knew the dark semi sweet bitterness of the dark chocolate lava cakes would linger on his greedy demon's tongue, and it would only enhance the flavor of the wine... not to mention, this particular Zinfadel had an ABV of 17% and could sneak up on anyone.

The other business men got distracted by some other person, and Artemis took the opportunity to pull out his business card. “Alabaster Leveret, CEO of Hopper, Inc. We're relatively new to the scene, and I believe one of the last investors to get on board, but we're happy to be here. Hopper, Inc deals with importing rare and high end ingredients for chefs and restaurants. You'd be shocked to learn that people will pay up to $2500 USD for a single Black Truffle... which is more than some of the drugs we smuggle in go for. But you know the saying, two birds one stone.” Arti shook his head with a smile before grinning, “And you are?”

Air made its way back into the gator's lungs and soon the world was coming back into focus. Delicate warm hands assaulted his chest and guided his hands to a paper bag while a familiar voice soothed him and made the whole breathing thing a bit easier. His glamour had faded away during his panic, causing the 'burn scars' on his body to return to the normal rough scales and bumps along his face, chest, and arms. For a moment he was worried that this woman would scream or start running, but his chest tightened once again when he recognized Safiya was the one standing before him.

His eyes followed her as she moved around the room, and his face remained blank while his brain processed whatever the hell was happening. Safiya was someone he didn't think he would ever cross paths with again, certainly not at his own party, certainly not dressed like *that*, certainly not as a congratulatory gift. He wheezed a bit before covering his mouth. Was this a trick? A hallucination? A dream? Who would know about the one person Bruce fantasized about when he had rare moments alone? Who would be able to convince her? As far as Bruce knew, Safiya blamed Kyrie for everything that happened to Artemis and swore to never speak to him or any of his family again. Bruce had been given a choice once to go with Safiya or stay with Kyrie, but he chose Kyrie...

Back then, Bruce was smaller and weaker. He wasn't a child, but he was often treated like one. The break up between Kyrie and Artemis had been rough on everyone, but especially Kyrie. Ozzy was doing what he could to take of Kyrie, but Bruce still needed to step up and take of the family business so that Kyrie didn't lose his standing with his father or with his siblings... And Safiya didn't look at Bruce the way he wanted her to. In the end, he worked out that it would be better to wonder 'what if' rather than torture himself with an unrequited crush.

Now Bruce stood taller than Safiya, bigger than Safiya, and with her in a very vulnerable position. His panic triggered those beastly instincts, she looked like very delicious prey, and with the amount of times Bruce had imagined himself chasing after her He was prepared for scenario the presented itself.

But there was very little running room and too many witnesses aboard this yacht.

He took off his suit jacket and placed it over Safiya's shoulders, moreso for his own sanity than for her comfort, and sat on the bed and surveyed the board of cheese, crackers, and raw meat.

If your boss sent you here.. that means you're not here of your own free will? Are you being forced to do this? He signed, before sighing and shaking his head. Bruce then managed to pull his eyes up to hers searching for answers before gently signing, I've missed you so much.
