• Gotham City, located on the eastern coast of the United States, is a hive of scum and villainy like no other in the entire country, and maybe the entire world. It's almost as if though there was an entity - a spirit of the city - and one that feeds on darkness and despair, that infected it with malignant, tangible evil.
  
  Twenty-seven years ago, this evil was destined to give birth to yet another tragedy. When a small-time criminal, Joe Chill walked into an alleyway at the right time, he stumbled upon Gotham city's wealthiest family. Overtaken by greed, he killed the parents of the eight-year-old Bruce Wayne and fled the scene, leaving the boy alone and tormented.
  
  Most, in the boy's place, would waver and be consumed by the evil of the city and join its madness; become a brutal, inhuman catalyst of more tragedies in a never-ending cycle. But through willpower and perseverance, he endured the darkness and rather than let it take him, he took its reins and used it for good.
  
  Who is he, you ask? He is Gotham's protector and guardian. By night, her defender. By day, her first citizen.
  
  He's the Caped Crusader, the Dark Knight, the World's Greatest Detective. He is the Batman.

  Let me say right off the bat - heh, bat, get it? - that I will accept original characters, but I'd like there to be a nice equilibrium. If everyone is a non-canon character, this wouldn't be that much of a Batmanverse Roleplay, just a random vigilante-villain-hero roleplay set in a place called Gotham City with vague DC Universe references.
  
  As such, there will be a limit of OCs. Before making one, please ask me for permission first. I'd like to get some canon characters before we get to original characters, but I'm willing to bargain.
  
  Second of all, I am allowing players for total creative freedom over their characters and their resources. Ergo, you can play any version or variant of the Joker you want, and if you play the Joker, you also control his gang.
  
  Generally, I request the players use Batmanverse characters or DC Universe characters that aren't strictly tied to the "gallery" of any specific pool of heroes or place.
  
  Here is a list of canon characters that I will require to start the roleplay. As in, without these necessary roles taken, we're not going anywhere at all:
  - Batman (Bruce Wayne) [ Birdsie ] - If someone wants it I'm willing to swap

  Here is a list of secondary characters that we can start without, but are still major concerns on the list in the sense that playing without at least some of them wouldn't make much sense.

  AGES for the Bat-Family:
  Bruce Wayne: 34 to 35. Can be younger biologically with the use of Lazarus Pit at the player's discretion.
  Barbara Gordon: 24-25
  Dick Grayson: 22-23
  Jason Todd: 21-22.
  Tim Drake: 18-19
  Stephanie Brown: Roughly the same as Tim Drake.
  Damian Wayne: 10-11
  Katherine Kane: Roughly same, or a little younger than Batman.
  Cassandra Cain: Around Jason Todd or Dick Grayon's ages.
  
  
• Rules:
  - I am always right.
  - When I'm wrong, refer to the rule above.
  - Ask me when you want to play an OC. You must receive permission.
  - A person playing a character with control over an organization is responsible for playing NPCs from that organization. Gordon controls the police, Joker controls the Joker's gang, etc.
  - Don't be a meanie.
  - Use proper grammar and paragraphing.
  - Feel free to invite your friends! The more the merrier.
  - Have fun.

Definitely going to be making someone for this! As I do the impossible task of narrowing down my picks, I have two questions:

1. Would you be willing to entertain characters that aren't on this list? i.e. Hugo Strange, Clayface, the various members of Batman, Inc., etc.

2. Were there concrete plans for an initial story as a springboard, or was the plan to lay out a sandbox for the players to direct plots as they see fit?

1. Yes.
2. More of a sandbox, but I am hoping to coordinate plots using OOC. I'd appreciate if the players threw in their ideas.

Good to hear. I was thinking of going a little wacky and setting up a DEUS VULT anti-Batman order of zealots with Arkham Knight (from Detective Comics #1000, not the video game), possibly with an Azrael if someone was willing to add to that madness. If that's a bit too out there, I'll probably go for Hugo Strange and push Arkham/psych-centric things, especially if we get a lot of rogues affiliated with the asylum.
