Soul of Cinder

The Fire fades, and the lords go without thrones.
So, our great and holy and righteous and all knowing and lovely and beautiful and grand and wondrous King has decided to form a band of outlaws of various skills from different groups and races to venture to an old island that resided within a day's journey from the capital itself. The island is said to be super dangerously dangerous and those who stepped foot on that island, never returned... Just kidding, they're still alive but a terrible fog covers the outskirts of the island which makes travelers travel in circles before finally giving up and returning home.

Reason for this is because some very evil and mean necromancer has decided to wage war on the kingdom with his not so alive undead army. Duh, it's undead. So the kingdom's most smartest and most wisest and most oldest and most white haired court wizard has said there is an ancient artifact there that can help the kingdom fight back.

So what's the artifact you ask? Good question...

Long story short, not wanting to sacrifice his beloved soldiers whom are nothing more then big babies, the king has decided to employ some of the meanest and toughest bad boys and bad girls to go to the island and seek out this artifact.

But whatever, we're getting paid so I'm not complaining.

Wait we are, right?

The early morning saw the warm sun graced the Kingdom of Auria with its golden rays, waking many of its citizens and turning the serene, quiet kingdom into a bustling and lively hub. The city guards peacefully patrolled the streets along with merchants and their wagons flooding the already busy streets. Voices of merchants filled the air as they diligently tried to sell their goods and the occasional barking from the guards when a fight is about to erupt. Despite the unending raids by the undead minions, Auria stood undaunted and its citizens carried on with their daily lives. How long this would last is uncertain but the King appreciated this for it is definitely better then riots and lawlessness in the streets.

In the palace within the colossal white walls that stood guard, the King’s advisor, Lothric, began giving orders to the servants to ready the meeting halls where the various mercenaries, adventurers, outlaws and whatever else that he had recruited would meet.

Razor stepped in with shackles on his metal wrists, heavy chains being dragged along with 2 guards at his sides. He just smiled as he was brought over. The chains wouldn’t hold him if he wanted out, and those guards wouldn’t stand a chance against him if he sought an escape. He turned himself in willingly around a year prior and was thinking about escaping sooner or later anyway. When he heard that the higher ups were looking for a criminal’s help for the reward of freedom and a great pay, Well he wasn’t going to just turn down the offer.

He stood watching as the guards stepped aside. He waited to know what exactly he would be up against.

The kobold let out a small grumble. He thought he could just walk down there, which was foolish. He was rolled in a large metal cage, with heavy shackles bound over his wrists. He constantly cursed at the three guards escorting him. He kicked at the door in vain, only awarding the prod of a spear. He hissed at bit at the bars. Sweet mother of Kyvrud, he was going to get out eventually.

“You know, are the chains really necessary?”

The young woman barked, looking around at the three guards that flanked her, being her usual sassy self.
“I’ve got three of you watching my every move, what am I gonna do?” She chided, hopping over her hands to get them back in front of her, ”steal something?”
She then snapped her arms out to grab something from a table nearby, only to have her wrists smacked by a spear.

“Ow! Ohhhh, you guys are fast, that’s good.” Not fast enough when it matters, though. She added internally, fidgeting as the guards shoved her arms back behind her back and continued their escort down the hall.

She soon found herself in a large meeting hall, where she was shoved unceremoniously forward into the room, up beside a human man and a kobold in a cage.

“... So... what ya in for?” She questioned, looking over at the human with a smirk on her lips, hidden beneath her bandanna.

Samuel Barber (Razor) looked to her with a smirk and clears his throat as if this was routine, “murder of all types, theft, treason, harboring a fugitive, and much much more.”, he tilts his head, “You?”

“Ooooohh, fun!”
She wiggles her eyebrows at him playfully, “I’m just a thief for hire myself. If you ever need some priceless family heirlooms plucked straight from a nobleman’s jewelry box, come talk to me.” She winked, then wiggles her fingers, showing off the fancy ruby ring perched there on her right ring finger.

“I might not have as big a list of dirty deeds, but do you have a bounty on your head that attracts bounty hunters from far and wide?” She threw her head back and laughed jovially, “I’d tell you how much, but I wouldn’t want to inspire you to try to turn me in.”

Trust me, I do”, Razor chuckles, “Anyone who has tried to collect it didn’t last a second the moment they started to annoy me.”, he sighs, “the reason that I’m even being held is because I turned myself in to see what it’s like out of boredom, if I really wanted to get out I could easily”, he scratches the back of his head, “I was thinking about escaping when I got offered this gig, so I thought I might as well wait just a bit longer“.

With A Bang

And suddenly, the halls echoed with screams.

"Let me go your worthless chunks of moldy pondscum!" A female voice shouted. The door burst open, and a total of 4 guards were practically dragging a tall False Demon in through the palace doors. She had enormous metal chains attached to her that the guards were holding onto, and one of them had strapped her foreign sword to his back to keep her from having it. Despite clearly being unable to escape in any possible way, she kept struggling and screaming and swearing and kicking. There were a few bruises on the guards among them, who all looked rather unhappy that they didn't get to transport one of the calm prisoners.

"Don't you know who I am, mortals? I am Cherrvilon the Bloodthirsty! The Crusher of Mortals! Dominator of Souls! And you self centered pieces of malnourished donkey crap think you can hold me! Ha! I will tear through these rusty shackles you had the audacity to put on me and-" As if a switch was flipped, she looked around the room she was in, at the caged crocodile, the chained half elf, the half metal man, and realized what was going on a little later than she should have.

"Um, why am I in a palace? I just sorta assumed I was being executed." Her guards gave a sigh of relief that she'd finally stopped struggling, but said nothing.

The kobold sat down content in his cage, but rattled at the screaming from the False Demon. "Can shut up, hellspawn?" He chortled, then went back to laying down, and feign picking the lock on his shackles.

Razor looks around, “Is this everyone?“, he turns one of his fingers into a small knife and shaves his face, “not to be offensive or anything, but this seems a tad mellow if you consider the skeleton war outside.

Tharqa's interest was peaked towards Samuel. "What kind of metal-working-witchcraft is that?" He inquired, grabbing onto the side of the cage.

Oh, this?“, he turns his arm into a metal tentacle, “It’s called mind metal, its a special skill that I learned from a dragon. I can do basically anything I want with it, but I don’t usually have to do much.

Tharqa was visibly pleased. "Oh, dragons. I used to work for a dragon" he pasued. "Their name was Tirrak. They weren't that large, probably just a bit larger than a swamp drake. But they had a ferocity. There were other kobolds, i'd say about twenty. I worked in the horde. Dragons and their hordes, you know? Tried to steal some from their before, and then I didn't work for Tirrak anymore."

As the kobold and the metal man carried on with their conversation, Cherry examined the palace. It looked exactly like what she'd imagined. Large, bright, cheery... it all looked too idealistic. She didn't trust it. Not one bit.

She scooted slightly closer to the half elf. This seemed to terrify Cherry's guards for a moment, but they seemed to think trying to stop her would only end poorly for them. "Quick question," Cherry whispered to the girl, "Do you happen to know what we're doing here?"

"I'm tellin' ya, jus' have a sip. You know you wa-" Zevon stopped harassing the guards who were escorting him for a moment when he was brought into the meeting hall. Swaying drunkenly as sized up the room's other occupants, his eyes narrowed momentarily, before he smiled. "Why helloooooooo," he slurred, raising his shackled hands and waving with his fingers. A floating bottle of ale that had been following him around raised itself to his lips with the twitch of one of his fingers, allowing him to drink it. Finishing his drink, Zevon tapped the bottle against one of the guards' helmets, all interest with the other criminals lost. "Come on, just a siiiiiip," he cackled. The guard merely groaned, already fed up with the drunken warlock.

Bridget was about to answer when the sound of shoutings and curses met her pointy half-elf ears. She turned around just in time to see a false-demon be dragged kicking and screaming into the room.

“Oooohh, this one is feisty! I like her.” Bridget commented, looking around at all this commotion when the kobold finally jumped into the conversation. “Wow, kobold’s got bite too!” She added, before the human, the false demon, and the kobold started to chitchat, she just sat back and watched, giggling to herself over the whole situation. Man, these guys are funny.

“Well, frankly, I have no idea why we’re here. I was under the assumption that I was about to have my crimes read to me before I was shoved into the dungeon for a few weeks to starve till they hung me. Buuuut this little gathering of people here makes me think otherwise.” She chattered, not caring if anyone was actually listening to her or not. She then turned you to the human who seemed to know what was going on, “You seem informed, what’s going on here?”

Razor turns his arm back to human form, “The dragon that I knew was very large, bigger than the size of this room even.“, he scratches his head, “I’m pretty sure that he only taught me out of pity due to the state I was in.“, he looks carefully at the kobold, “so, what did you do to get put in the cage?

He looks to the woman, “All I know is that there has been talk about a war going on outside the cells.“, he stretches, “Apparently the king is looking for recruits because his men are really incompetent.”, he looks to the guards, “And I definitely believe it

Tharqa smiled. "Oh where to start! I've put laxatives into the drinks of nobles, poisoned those of lords!" He took a moment to breathe. "Killed some guards before, I slaughtered gnomes, fuckin' hate gnomes, and if my memory serves me right, I ate a person once." He laughed a bit, then sighed. "I've stolen baubles from the unaware, and went into a thieving career for a bit." He stopped talking and laughed again.

“Apparently the king is looking for recruits because his men are really incompetent,” the strange man said. “And I definitely believe it.“ Cherry chuckled.

"If that's the case, I hope these boot lickers at least pay us for it." She sighed. "Oh who the hell am I kidding, at most I'll get a pardon."

“That’s funny. The guards did a pretty good job of whacking me on the back of the head.” She laughed, then grimaced and added, “Still hurts a little, actually...”

“Either way, I’m just glad they didn’t get any of my junk. Yeah... that’s back in my room at the Blinking Eye.” She mumbled to herself again, before looking around at the group that was quickly assembling around her. “I highly doubt they’ll pay us for any services rendered. Which is incredibly unfortunate. My time is money! Mostly other people’s money, but that’s beside the point.”

"That's the life, that's the life" the kobold laughed. The half elf shared in the laugh as well, and Cherry gave a grin.

“Either way, I’m just glad they didn’t get any of my junk," the half elf girl commented. "Yeah... that’s back in my room at the Blinking Eye. I highly doubt they’ll pay us for any services rendered. Which is incredibly unfortunate. My time is money! Mostly other people’s money, but that’s beside the point.” Cherry gave a loud laugh at that.

"Yeah, I know that feeling. All I really care about right now is my Kyat." She motioned towards the guard who was holding her blade far out of reach. "Seriously, can I have that back now?"

An awkward silence passed before the guard answered. "...no."

"Pfft. I suppose that's fair though." Cherry sat down on the ground with her legs crossed.

I hope not“, Samuel yawns, “if that’s the case, I’ve been sitting around for an extra couple weeks for nothing...
