Anti-Magic Eight Ball
Carina

"Hey, Dr. Greyson!" I called as I walked out of an examination room, anxious to escape the screaming child in there who was desperately trying to evade his flu shot. Judging by the fact she wasn't done buttoning up her lab coat, she probably just walked in. I headed over to her with my clipboard. "You're actually pretty clear today- only Mr. Valance, the guy with a brain tumor, and Ms. Paisley, the young girl who fell of her bike and fractured her spinal vertebrae. Her parents are insanely protective of her, though, so heads up." I handed her her schedule from my clipboard before telling her, "You're also on duty to introduce the new doctor to the facilities. He just moved in from working in John Hopkins- I think. Isn't that crazy? He's also supposed to be a hotshot, at least according to Farrah."

Kayla sighed a bit as she glanced over the chart "Why do I always get stuck being the babysitter for the newbies?" She glanced over the chart and leaned against the cold counter as she smiled to Carina. "Hot shot huh? Well we will see I mean after all I'm suppose to be the hot shot around this place." She says laughing slightly. "I better get busy. Hate to keep those parents of Ms. Paisley waiting." She heads to the girls room first. After a long couple mintues the parents walked out smiling and chatting friendly with Kayla. She had that affect on people. She heads into the next room "Mr Valance how are we today?" She ask closing the door. Kayla thought about this new doctor. She was not about to have someone coming in and stealing her hospital. She worked her ass off to be here.

Carina

I looked up as a heard a soft "ahem" in front of my desk. A guy looked down at me with a friendly grin. "The name's Jayson. Dr.Richardson, if you want. your name is... Nurse Hill?" His voice raised in a question as he peered at my nametag. "Uh-yes, um, Carina Hill," I said, flustered. His hair flopped over his hair in a surfer-dude way that made my blood rate rise. *Competition for hottest human here, Kayla* I thought. "Yeah, um, Dr. Greyson should be coming soon," I said, glancing toward's Kayla's door as I passed him his schedule.

Jayson

I smirked inwardly. "Greyson, hm?" I said. I knew who she was- Kayla Greyson, the girl I was head over heels in love with 13 years ago. I barely remembered her anymore- but still, it was bound to make my hospital experience more fun. Small memories crept up on me, like some obscure night we spent at a restaurant, then in my bedroom, then in my bed, but unfortunately, the memory was no longer clear. I can't even remember if her hair was brown or auburn. I tossed a wink at Carina, before taking my schedule from her and reading it over.

Kayla finally manages to get away from the room as she walked out noticing the guy talking to Carina. She slowed down handing the chart to her and smiled "I'm not sure why that man seems to think I'm a therapist but he's to nice.." She glances over to the guy lifting a eyebrow "Are you the new guy I'm suppose to show around? Hi I'm Dr Kayla Greyson and you would be?" She asked holding her hand out as she thought he looked vaguely familiar. Where could I have possible seen him at? He's definitely handsome but from where?" She thought to herself. She would have been more impressed if this guy wasn't trying to come into her hospital and steal her spot. At least from what Carina said he was.

Jayson

I was silent for a split second as I took her in. Wow. She had grown beautifully. I laughed inwardly, thinking, *Oh snap, this will be fun.*

I held her hand in a firm handshake, flashing her a charming smile. "Long time no see!" I said enthusiastically. Letting go of her hand, I reached up to brush some stray black hairs away from my vision so I could look her square in the eye. "The name's Jayson Richardson, or Dr. Richardson by formality. Yes, I believe you are to be my lovely tour guide today."

Kayla stared realizing instantly looking into his eyes who she was. She had a small flicker in her eyes showing it but quickly masked it down. "Right. Carina you can page if you require my assistance. I'm going to show Dr. Richardson around." She said quietly as she kept her calmness. Her heart was racing however as she remembered how he left. She was in love with man 13 years ago. She would have done anything for him. Then graduation happened and the next day he was gone. She never heard anything from him. She looked over him he's grown up now and so was she. 13 years ago didn't matter anymore. Besides no apology no nothing for 13 years. She also had a wonderful man who would do anything for her. Anything but make her heart beat skip a few beats and run faster like Jayson used to. She dismissed the thoughts he probably never even thought twice about her and she should've done the same.

Jason

She looked pretty chill as we walked through the halls. Part of that annoyed me. I mean, I wasn't the ugliest man in the world, that's for sure. Especially being her ex- from high school, admittedly- you would've thought she'd give a second glance. But I shrugged it off. Thirteen years ago was a long time ago, and I'd been around the block, so to speak, a million times with other gorgeous girls during the space in between.

"Didn't know you became a doctor," I lied. "What's your speciality? I majored in neurological and spinal damage during college, and got a pHd in how to pick up girls." I added in the joke, only half lying, and my mouth did a lopsided grin.

Kayla watched quietly as he talked. She appeared calm and collect on the outside but inside she was trying to forget about the past. It didn't seem like he had a problem with it. "Cancer and spinal damage. " she said shrugging "I focused solo on college." She said quietly as she pointed to a few things talking casually. She'd been here since she graduated and now here she was top of her game and he thought he could come take it away. Felt that way anyways. It almost seemed a if he was created to solo destroy her life. I mean how could he just show up. Granted he probably had no clue this was where she worked.

Jason

I decided it might be a bad move to inform Kayla that one of the reasons he decided to work here was because he knew this was where she worked. I mean, also the fact that it was the best hospital in California, but still. She was probably in a relationship though. For some reason, that thought irked me. "Really?" I paused at one of the surgical rooms. "Oh, damn, is that a da Vinci?" I whistled, peering in. "That's impressive! Didn't know you guys had the funds. Off topic, but have you kept in touch with anyone from college?" I did- mostly Frank and Georgina. Frank because we were best bros, and Georgina because she maintained her status as the school slut throughout college, and that... was useful for rated R reasons.

Kayla rolled her eyes "Only a few but I'm really to busy. Mostly it stays on a professional level now. Frank was always a asshole..and somehow I didn't think Georgina was your type.." She added and shrugged "but then again maybe I didn't know you as well as I thought." She comment dryly as she lifted a eyebrow to your shock at their funds "We're rated at the top when it comes to hospitals. I don't see why we wouldn't have the funds." She shook her head some as she thought back to college. The memories of Georgina trying to get with you. The idea that she finally got her wish was not surprising seeing how you flirted with Carina. Kayla glances to him "So what brought you here? Clearly from what people say your a big shot. I'm sure you had plenty of offers."

Jason

"Well, I came to California originally or Frank's wedding. And how did you know I hung out with Frank and Georgina?" Was I thinking out loud or something?? "Yeah, Frank got married to a girl from college. I decided it was more fun here on Cali, so I moved. And I came here because of the exact reason you said- it's the best hospital on the coast." I stopped talking for a second when I got a text. I looked over- 4 texts. Invitations to nightclubs, mostly. Already? I rolled my eyes before tucking my phone back into my pocket. "Sorry. Anyway, I don't do well at holding long term relationships, so Georgina was helpful at times. She also had some hot friends, not gonna lie."

Kayla glanced to him "I ran into frank a few months ago. He was being his typical self and after a few minutes talking he mentioned you. Also told me about Georgina. Just like in the past Frank isn't capable of keeping any secrets." She hear her name over the intercom "Dr. Greyson line one." She glances at him and turned to a nearby phone "Dr Greyson. Oh hi Dexter no that's fine really I'll be here for awhile anyhow we can just get a late supper. Yeah I love you to." She sighed hanging the phone up before looking to Jayson "Sorry about that so this way is the doctors lounge. Mostly this is a well ran hospital. The nursing staff makes our job easy." Kayla felt strange hearing from Dexter with Jayson around her. Why it mattered to her was a mystery.

Jason (ugh jayson is just too difficult to spell)

"Frank's a good guy, just a blabbermouth. But at least he keeps his mouth shut about important things. He also makes a great dogsitter for ol'man Henry. Remember that little bloodhound puppy? Well, he's turning 16 soon." I smirked at listening to her phonetical. "Snagged a boy, hm?" I said teasingly. I collapsed into the one of the lounge chair, resting my foot on my knee. "Nice place," I said, looking around appreciatively. "Anyway, you got a cellphone? Or are you still stuck with a pager?" I blew an annoying curl of hair out of my vision. "Anyway, speaking of nurses, tell me- is Carina single or what? Because if she is, well, I've got a partner for tomorrow's club."

Kayla lifted a eyebrow some "Oh yeah? I mean that dog is old.." She glanced over him shaking her head "Yes I did is that so hard for you to believe? I mean obviously it's the keeping them around I have trouble with." She sarcastically said and held up her cell phone. She ran a hand through her hair and paused "Single? Yeah I think she is but I'm not sure dating other employees would be smart." She shook her head. Let him it would look bad on him but no her mind being instantly jealous cause her to open her big mouth.

Jason

"You think?" I raised an eyebrow. "I think it serves as an advantage. Besides, I'm sure she'll keep quiet. Girls don't easily forsake time with me." I winked cheekily at her before standing up. "Anyway, I think I'm free for the rest of today. You? Oh wait- gotta meet up with your lucky guy, I'm guessing what's his name?" I asked her, trying not to notice the fact she still had that habit of running her fingers through her hair. She used to have black hair, I remembered suddenly. "You used to have black hair!" I exclaimed out loud. "Sorry, just noticed." I walked over to check out the snack bar in the room.

Kayla glances at him a moment shocked but shakes it off. Well clearly that means he thinks about her or at least of back then. She nods "Yeah I grew up...kinda happens after a few years." She looks to him "So tell me do you like the place so far? I mean it's a good place to work." She mental slapped herself. She wanted him to leave not stay. She looks down knowing it's wrong but she don't want the first love of hers running around here. "Dexter he's my guy...he's sweet you'll see him around he funds some of the hospitals charities."

Jason

"People grow up? No way!" I joked sarcastically, munching on a saltine cracker that I pulled from the bowel. Turning to face her, I said, "Well, I've only been here for a grand total of an hour, so I dunno if I love it, but there are two hot-as-hell girls running around here and I'm sure I can fish out some more. Though admittedly, one is hotter than the other." I flashed her a cheeky wink before checking my watch. "Well, I'll check in with Carina to see if I've got any patients to see today. If not, I guess I'll meet with the head surgeon before jetting off. Heard he's retiring soon- wondering who'll take his place. Head surgeon brings in good money, maybe I'll give it a go," I mused to myself distractedly. "Dexter- huh, you don't mean that billionaire Dexter Maxwell of Dexter&Co, do you? Dude lives on my street, though to be honest, his house basically takes up a full block," I complained. " I'm stuck in an apartment, but it's enough room for Henry and I."

Kayla glances to him "Head surgeon..yeah I'm kinda up for that position but hey I guess try for it." She says trying to be nice about it but it instantly gets on her nerves. She nods some "Yes that's him. He's a good guy." Kayla says as she shrugs like it's not a big deal at all. Kayla is used to people acting like it's amazing she's with him but she didn't even try to go after him. He begged her for a date without her know he had money. It was a hard thing to date him. MOst though she was a gold digger but Kayla supported herself and hated the term. She sits at a desk "Can you find Carina on your own? I need to finish reports so I can hopefully leave here."

Jason

I whistled again- a habit I'd carried since elementary school. "Wow- nice catch," I told her jestingly. "Sure, I'll be off looking for her."

(I'm going to skip him talking to Carina and all that because that's mostly just blah).

Carina

I poked my head into Kayla's office. "Hey, Kayla!" I said, inviting myself in. I pulled out the chair across the desk and sat down. "Oh my god, that Jason- he's so my type. Like, so my type. He asked if I wanted to go to a party with him tomorrow. Should I go? Should I try to hook up with him? Make a relationship? You're the engaged one- give me your wisdom!" My words spilled out all at once, my veins thrumming with pheromones from talking to him.

Kayla had just lifted the coffee to her lips and took a sip when Carina said that. Almost choking she shrugged it off a bit "Seems a tad bit of a playboy but hey I for it...only live once." Kayla sighs liking to the papers on her desk "Go have fun girl...besides you deserve a good time if nothing else and I'm sure he plans on taking you home for the night." Kayla says feeling a tad reminder of when she first got with Jason.

Kayla had been 16 and crazy in love with him. He was the guy she trusted most so giving him her virginity was just right. She loved everything that he did and it just felt right. After that they was always together almost every day. Things just ran easily for them. Well until he disappeared.

Shaking her head she smiled for Carina. The girl deserved fun. She heard her cell phone and picked up "Oh hey...really? Alright darling I'll just see you tomorrow than." She says and sighs "Dexter is so busy lately he probably won't show for our wedding even if I ever set a date."

Carina

I snorted. "At least you have a freaking wedding in the first place. Anyway- oh my god! You and Dexter should come to the party!" I said, suddenly excited. "Yes! That would be so much fun! Can you? Can you please? I don't want to be alone with him- what if he ditches me?" I said nervously. "Come please! Oh, that will be so much fun! Tomorrow. We'll get ready together. At your house, since your bathroom is the size of my apartment. Is that cool?"

Kayla shifted a bit "I haven't ever set a date...Dexter stays busy although he catered to Kayla's needs." As she looked away she sighed "Alright alright why not?" She says softly as she agreed and smiled "It is huge..." She laughed softly and smile "I doubt he'll ditch you but I'll come. Hey I need a night out." Kayla waved her on "Now go I'll see you later I have work and so do you!" She says laughing as she returns to the paper.

Carina

"Okay, okay- I'll call you!" I promised. "Also, head surgeon Dr. Andrews wants to have a word with you and Jason. Could you remind him if you see him? He might be in there already, but I'm not sure." With that, I popped back out of the office.

Jason

"Yes, sir. No, it's not fatal. I assure you, Mrs. Paisley, Montana will be fine. Yes, the back brace is recommended. You want to speak to Dr. Greyson?" I was engaged in a conversation with Mr and Mrs. Paisley, who were having doubts on Kayla's reccomendation of a back brace. As I saw Kayla step out of her office, I called out loudly, "Docter Greyson!" Throwing her a desperate look while discreetly motioning to the parents. "Yes, I did go to college, sir. John Hopkins. No, I'm not married. I'm not obligated to inform you who my last girlfriend was, Mr. Paisley, I don't think that has much to do with me being a docter."

Kayla was just about to find Jason when she hear her name and turned adjusting her stethoscope around her neck and almost laughed at his look of extreme desperation. She walked over "Mr.Paisley I see you had met Dr. Richardson. Yes sir he does have a degree. Look why don't I walk you back to Montana's room. Did you watch that Super Bowl game Sunday? Yeah I think it was rigged myself. Oh no you know he should hav ecaught that throw." Kayla smiles as he gets him onto a different topic and he leaves forgiving about his worries. She comes back a moment later "I forgot to warn you they can be alittle difficult at times." She said as she slides her hands into the coat "Dr. Andrews wants to see us. Also Carina is excited about the night club as asked Dexter and I to come by I wouldn't want to step on your toes." She says as she walks next to you to see the good old Dr. Andrews.

Jason

"Ha- I don't remember you being much of a party girl- let's see if you can prove me wrong." I said as we entered the office. Dr. Andrews looked up, pushing his glasses up his nose bridge. "Ah!" he said in satisfaction, watching us walk in together. "I see you two have already met. Now, I have some important news for both of you. There is an extremely sick patient who has just entered our wing, and I really need you to both operate on him. He has a mild form of brain cancer, and though I'm confident Jason can handle the operation, you need Kayla to guide us. Isn't that so, nephew?" I looked at my uncle in agreement. "Yep, agreed."
