The city of Azuran is nestled along the southwestern border of Ryke, becoming a major trade city in the southwest region. Many merchants come inside Ryke and outside this city due to the access to goods from the country across the border. The border had shifted from time to time over the centuries; however, currently, the city was in the Protectorate of Ryke's territory. The town started as a small village, but as the borders moved, money came to the town, and trading became its primary source of income. Many people set up their shops in the town as it slowly expanded, turning it into the thriving trade city it has become today.
However, in most cities, there is corruption among some of the people that hold the most power. Nobles and officials both crave money, and each has their allegiance, which does not always coincide with the rightful ruler. Even some citizens within Ryke hold grudges against the current rulers and upper class. A situation that some counties would take advantage of. Recently a weapons shipment was destroyed, sending news throughout the city as the city guard and the adventurer's guild became more involved.
Rumors have been circulating about the Lord Constable's corruption though every time someone goes to investigate, they either find nothing or they disappear entirely. But there was always one thing in common with the person of interest; the last time she had tried to get the information, she slipped the shipment accounts to the adventurer's guild and had managed to get invitations and forged several of them.
Kasumi had passed off invitations to a couple of people earlier today; there was no particular reason though she was hoping it would sow some chaos during the party to give her time to accomplish what she wanted to do. She had already given the guards her invitation and was let through the gate without issue. She had no weapons but managed to sneak her thieves' tools into the party inside her dress. She only stood by the entrance to see if any of the invitations she had passed out would be used.
Her eyes moved amongst the people in the long line standing outside, waiting for their turn to hand over their invitations to enter the party. Rumors had there was a rather popular traveling group of bards providing the music for the night. Kasumi had never heard of them, but the stories around the city were that many people were trying to find a way to get in. Though with the security at the gate, she had little faith that many without the invitations would get through. Shifting her gaze over at the grounds, the large courtyard with a fountain in the middle was decorated with beds of flowers all around the paths. This led up to the main steps of the manor house, where music could be heard coming.
Kasumi let out a small sigh as she glanced toward the manor, she had hoped to get a floor plan of the building, but there wasn't much luck. Forging the other invitations took much longer than she had thought. So, she was going to go into this blind; she figured the study would be somewhere on the manor's second floor. But she would need to find a way up there and then get past the guards if there were any. Though she figured she would figure that out when she got inside, she glanced back to look at the line to search again for anyone from earlier today.
