Avoiding combat in a roleplay?

So, I tried to start a roleplay about the everyday life aboard an Intergalatic Travel hub, and some one basically starts it out by attacking the station and power-playing and all. I've GM'd before, not on-site(Dungeons and Dragons), but this is different.


I honestly want to delete the thread and start again, but I'm not sure if I can. What are my options/how do I avoid this in the future?

I'd talk to this person first, preferably through a pm, and let them know that you don't want any serious combat in your rp. Be firm but respectful. And if they don't like that, they can leave.


As for future rps, let people know in the overview, description or rules that you don't want heavy combat. And if they don't like it, show them the door. Or if they want to plead their case, hear them out and make a decision then.

I concur with what Amdreams said.


Also, if this is your RP, then you get to set the tone of the RP. If you don't want fighting then you can always change it so that just because X was attacked by Y, A came in to save the day. And make sure to put in OOC that this isn't what you want and if this is what the user wants to do then s/he might want to find a different RP. It's your RP, you get to decide where it goes.

Well, I tried to take the GM reigns and he just kinda pushed his way through. I feel like with him opening the roleplay by doing what he did probably pushed anyone interested in joining away from the RP though. Would it be tactless or against the rules to try and start over with a new thread?

Don't start a new thread, if he's hijacked your RP then that's against the rules and report it. There is a process and we can't really support you until we have a record of it. You can either hit the report button at the bottom of a hijacked post and explain it or can go here: https://www.rpnation.com/forums/roleplay-support.195/ to report it. Just start a new thread on the page and let us know what the issue is. As Tomorrow is Thanskiving, it might take a day or two but someone will look into it. You might also want to discuss it with the forum moderator.
