Now what?
Character Creation: Feel free to be as detailed as you want to be. I require the obvious, Name, Age, Gender, History, as well as Character Organisation and Motivation. I don’t mind short, but I require detail. Complexity. Cliches are fun, and I won’t disallow them. But, with the limited amount of spaces available, know that I will lean towards creative and interesting above classical cliche. The world is very developed technologically and has developed very fast over the last hundred years. Things like phones, tablets, computers, social media, guns, cars, planes, and shopping malls are commonplace. Take this into account when considering how your character grew up. Below are some guidelines.
Character Art: Something that fits with the ART aesthetic of Avatar: The Last Airbender, or Avatar: Legend of Korra, while also fitting with the ‘Cyberpunk’ post-industrial look. They don’t need to fit a set colour scheme (i.e. Earthbender wears green, etc. etc.) and you can add whether some aspects are different from the image. Note: The setting allows for a lot of leniencies insofar body modification is concerned. Whether strange aspects have been added due to spirit possession, or whether they have augmented themselves via cybernetic limbs, you can go wild - so long as it fits your story, and the story remains grounded with the needed detail and characterisation. There is a wealth of Cyberpunk art concepts online, and I suggest you explore it.
Character Name: There are quite a few resources online as to Names within the Avatar Universe. While you do not need to keep the names within the traditional cultures within the narrative (Li being a traditionally Earth Kingdom name, etc. etc.) the name still needs to fit within the setting. As quite a few years have passed, I will allow some ‘modernisation’ of names, but they are subject to my approval.
Character Age: Characters should be no younger than 18, and no older than 24. Beyond that, the four ‘avatars’ must all be exactly 20 years old. Notice: I realise that Anime/Cartoon art struggles to convey age, especially in this age group, but I will not allow characters that don’t seem at least to be around these ages. Try and find something that conveys some maturity.
Character History: Include here where they grew up, who they grew up with, and how they came to be in their current setting. As stated before, the tone here is not ‘comedic’ but more ‘dramatic, which allows for comedic moments’. I don’t mind the dead parent's trope or the orphan trope - but try and make it interesting. Also, while it might be fun to make the characters super rich, and socially powerful - should you do so, I will be doubly critical of your character and your RP style. Great power and responsibility and all that. Be warned. Also, I don’t mind less, but no less than three paragraphs and - again - I require detail.
Character Organisation: As stated, choose an organisation they have associated with in the past. Also add a friend, partner, ally they know within the group, how they met, what their duties were within this group, and why they left. The higher up you place your friends, the more critical I will be. Again, be warned.
Character Motivation: While this should be part of your History and your Organisation, explain further the internal monologues which drive your character. Why they feel as they do. Why they want to find the avatar. Why they want to change their context. I want at least one paragraph with deep analysis at to why they are not satisfied by the status quo, while also exploring why they have the drive to actually try and change it. This will be perhaps the most vital part when considering your application. I suggest spending the majority of your time on this.
