The world stands on the knife edge. It will take only one push to set the world off to war and chaos. Only the Avatar is able to master all four elements and bring peace to the world. If so, what sort of world will that be?

Book 1
Fire and Ice
Ulva set back uncomfortably on her chair eyes closed and trying to suppress the nauseous feeling she had build up for an hour. She never liked the new giant biplanes, the lacked the smooth slow movement of the old dirigable she used to get with her parents nor the quietness as the four engines bizzing constantly in her ear. The old dirigables were floating homes while these biplanes felt more like cramped buses. Still they were faster and much harder to track and hit than the blimps and for her that was worth the discomfort. She looked over at Xiao nearby wondering how he was taking it, he was younger so probably enjoyed it. The speed, the travel.. Just like Korra would. Ulva sighed at the thought remembering her mothers inspecting one of these biplane prototypes, Asami excited of having something that will revolutionise travel and improve her business while korra just wanted to travel. Well Korra was riding these plane now, through Xiao in a sort of way and the feeling was comforting and warming.

She dared to look out one of the window, seeing some icebergs floating in the sea below. She turned away immediately regretting it, any thing she eat the last week threatened to spill out of her. She had gotten what she wanted thought. they should be in the southern water tribe capital within the hour. She was a little excited, to be among master water benders as they helped train Xiao, she herself could learn a few things. Finally she would trian with her mother... No, Ulva, Yanaba is not your mother a nagging voice said in the back of her mind. She tried to ignore the logic but it was hard to. It was also excited as she was going to meet her grandfather Tonraq ...Sort of. She was told they had met before softly after she was adopted but remembered little of it. He was said to be a great fighter in his time but has gotten old with the death of his daughter and the trouble with the fire nation and the Air protectorate weighing him down. She wondered what he would think of her and Xiao. Out of the scenarios in her mind only the worst ones seemed to stick in her mind. "How are you doing?" She asked trying to get her mind out of her nausea.

The water seemed endless. It stretched out for leagues and at some points, simply disappeared into the horizon. Xiao could not expressly say he was very fond of the ocean. The unknown depths, deceptively calm surfaces, and possible hidden dangers lurking just beneath. He did not fear it, but it would be foolish to disrespect the ocean, that much he knew. Xiao had spent the majority of the flight gazing out the window. He was bored, but would not say so. It was not his place to express such trivial discomfort. The Southern Water tribe capital, at least, was something new to see. It had been some time since he had been allowed to explore, let alone travel. Ever since the United Republic council had been told he was the new Avatar, it had been an array of security and training. Xiao knew what he was getting into, but most of the time he felt entirely put out by the whole situation. While he appreciated everyone's efforts to help him develop into a decent Avatar, Xiao felt uncertain about it.

The Avatar is a symbol of peace and unity, the bridge between the material and spirit worlds, and the only individual capable of mastering the four elements. Xiao found such a notion positively over the top. It didn't make any sense for one sole individual to possess so much power. That's what he constantly told himself. Whether it was his humble beginnings or personal philosophy, he could not justify the being known as the Avatar. That is, he could not justify his own existence. What he hated most, truly wished was different, was how the world viewed the Avatar. They placed the Avatar on a pedestal. They treated him like some treasured object that needed to be protected at all costs. Yet, was it not the Avatar's job to protect the world? Xiao failed to understand just how he was supposed to protect the world from the South Pole. He wasn't even going to be starting his Water bending training for several more months. He couldn't even produce a very strong flame yet and they sent him to a place made of frozen water. It was simply too much, yet, he would not utter a single complaint.

Snapped out of his thoughts by the sound of a voice, Xiao raised his head, finally tearing his gaze from the endless waters. Ulva had asked him a question. He smiled lightly.
"I am well enough, thank you," he spoke politely. Then, noticing her clear discomfort, he looked sympathetic. "How have you been faring?"

"Oh i am fine..." Ulva said forcing an unconvincing smile in a vain attempt to appear fine but she was pale could barely turn her head to look at Xiao. "Maybe I feel a little air suck...I am more used to the slower blimp travel. Just talk to me to get my mind off travel." She requested before taking a moment to think of a topic. She suspected that a new Avatar would have a lot of questions especially on as sheltered and of low means as Xiao. Ulva could not imagine herself leaving like that, she was the daughter of a wealthy industrialised and an avatar after all.

"Come one, the old men of the white lotus are not the most open people even to their own. You must have some question about were we are going or what we are doing. " She pointed out with certainty.

Xiao could tell Ulva's response was forced. While he didn't share her ailment, he understood that she was uncomfortable with the strange motion which came with riding in the contraption bringing them to the Southern Water tribe. At her request to converse as a distraction, Xiao faced her fully to offer his full attention. He didn't mind talking in order to pass the time.

In response to Ulva's choice of topic, Xiao frowned lightly, but not enough to make him look visually upset. He shook his head lightly before speaking.
"You're right, I have plenty of questions," he said, folding his hands in his lap. "I suppose I didn't want to become an instant burden or annoyance by bombarding anyone with my inquiries."
It was true, Xiao had been feeling a bit self-conscious since meeting the White Lotus members and then Ulva, the daughter of the previous Avatar. He initially found that to be very strange indeed and he was immediately unsure if he should be saying anything particular to Ulva as the new reincarnation. In the end, he withdrew within himself and kept his racing thoughts to himself.
"I do know we are going to the South Pole," Xiao continued. "That's all which I was told though. It would be nice to know what to expect when we land though, if you are allowed to tell me. I don't usually favor surprises."

Ulva couldn't help a genuine small smile at Xiao' s reply. He was a sweet boy that one, totally unlike Korra who would have aggressively demand answers. However there was a twinge of sadness at the comparison that Ulva couldn't explain. "Maybe you shouldn't but you do sometimes need to be forceful to get the answers you need. Some people don't just give information away."

She paused for a moment to suppress another wave of nausea. "Lucky for you I want to divulge information. We will be meeting with the white lotus once we land, they will take use to the same facility they trained the previous Avatar. There we will meet masters that will help train you in the elements." She explained." We might meet the chief of the southern water tribe in the process. He is family..Sort of. I hadn't met him since I was a baby, I was told."

Nodding thoughtfully in response to Ulva's suggestion, Xiao shifted in his seat. He had been brought up to be honest and forthcoming, but not necessarily open with every little thing. Sometimes withholding information can save someone's life or reputation just as much as it could be divulging certain information. Perhaps it was something to give more thought, but for now he would sit on it.

Xiao's brow rose in mild surprise at Ulva's explanation. He had known the training would be in a proper area, but he did not know the previous Avatar had also been there. Briefly he wondered if that would bring up a comparison of sorts, or if the White Lotus would give him different exercises. A small frown formed, however, as he heard masters of the other elements will be traveling to the location. So it was true, he would be isolated and taught in a controlled environment. Xiao only nodded in understanding. If he was going to put his two-bits in, it would not be to Ulva. She was not the one forcing him to train in such seclusion. If anything, she would be welcome company among the older White Lotus members and chief.
"I understand," Xiao spoke up after Ulva finished. "It sounds...nice. And safe." He did not know what else to say without feeling like he was lying in some way. It wasn't that he was unappreciative. Overwhelmed yet disappointed might be more accurate.

Despite her illness, Xiao uncertainty and disappointment did not go unnoticed by Ulva who looked at him with a raised eyebrow. She couldn't blame him if he was dissapointed, she would want a more exciting form of training as well. One of travel and adventure and she agreed it would be more effective to train amongst masters in their home soil and culture. However she also understood the white lotus position and that she could not do much to change it.

"You don't sound to pleased." She noted almost accusatory to Xiao. "I don't blame you of course if you have reservations. The White lotus just want to keep you safe until you are strong enough to fight on your own. That you will have the big adventure and travel you dream. I guarantee it as I want it as much as you."She tried to reassure.
