Autochthon

Strike me down for heresy, but I would think it would be easy (in new realm). English is the counter-intuitive language here ;)

O-To-Do-No

Old realm most strongly resembles mayan script, in which there are several *non pictographic* versions of each syllabic construct. (Mayan also has pictographs, but we are told Exalted does not). It stands to reason that, with possibly hundreds of variants for O, To, Do and No, there would be hundreds of different ways of writing O-To-Do-No. For his name. it's likely only one would be correct. It's possible (and I find it thematicly pleasing), that the characters in his name could not be used in other words without blaspheming against the Great Maker. On the other hand, if there is one Primordial likely to look kindly on the creative use of linguistic tools, it would be Autochthon.

I'm gonna bet at least one person is ready to violently disagree.

That seems close enough, but only in light of the fact that whoever wrote in Time of Tumult RETARDEDLY thinks Autochthon would be pronounced as if it did not have the 'ch' in the middle of it, even though Autochthon is a REAL word and IS pronounced with the 'ch' in it. Why even PUT IN the ch if they didn't want it pronounced, it's not as if it is not pronouncable with it in there.

I don't think it's English's fault. Autochton isn't an English word (as far as I know). Then again, only place I've run into it was in a French Immersion Social Studies class.

I think its the same reason that Chthonic is thonic

chthon·ic ( P ) Pronunciation Key (thnk) also chtho·ni·an (thn-n)

adj. Greek Mythology

Of or relating to the underworld.

And just in case anyone's keenly interested, the word autochthon (αυτόχθων) is Greek, indeed, and means local, native or indigenous.

Apparently is Exaltedese it means "Automatic Underworld". Or at least so says the writer of CoTMG.

It figures. Nothing like upstart writers ravaging the languages of others when they can't master their own...
