Auto-insert tabs into RP posts?

Alright @GgAcE lemme know if you're pickin up what im puttin down. Have a section inside each individual RP that the user is involved in where they can set up an RP specific signature that will post at the bottom each of their posts (only inside that RP) .


So if its a survival RP and people are constantly pickin up and puttin down items nobody has to go back and constantly reread old posts to know what people do and dont have?


Currently as an added feature people could just go back and copy and paste this info back into their post each time they make one, but I was considering this would be a cool way to have a quick way to track which character people are posting under.


It may be possible that people wouldnt want it to be automatically inserted into their post when they have multiple characters or are making a post that controls multiple characters at a time. They may end up preferring a button added to the bar containing the Bold/Italic/etc. buttons that once clicked it opens a dropdown list that contains the names of the various RP sigs theyve created for that specific RP?

I have no idea how much this would be used or how much work it would be to implement it but the idea popped into my head as soon as i saw the post in the Updates forum

It's a neat idea & one that I am sure I can pay to have developed at a fair price. Let's look at a few things first.

1. Out of the 900+ active RPs now, how many would you say would use such a feature? Give me a rough estimate.
   
2. If this feature was added, how easy would it be to manipulate the system I.E. add extra items when no one is looking?
   
3. Would linking to the character gallery page work?
   

Lastly, I don't see much use for "health". I see maybe 1 out of 500 RPs attempting to utilize a health function & those are generally abandoned once the author realizes just how difficult it is to +/- health even on a larger scale.


I am 100% open to discussion. Any in depth insight is greatly appreciated.

1. I know this could be kind of a "fix all" answer, but i would think that every RP could (and should and would) use this feature, I do believe many would skip over adding the 'tabs' code but simply go with a thumbnail and name of their character. So i would ignore my original post about the tabs code as an example, for example in my simple Pigeon RP, i would put just my characters pic thumbnail and name next to it as the temp sig, no tabs. However, in situations where the post is not quite a strong focus on one of the characters, users may just insert in a row at the top of the post how many of their characters are involved in the post. Steve :cool:Bob :eek:Crazyface. I could see this system being too complicated for posts that involve many characters or several of other peoples' characters.


2. I dont think manipulation and cheating issues would be any different than if someone was to go back and change a post that said "then he picked up five (two) grenades". So i dont really think this would broaden any exposure for cheating within the system.


3. In the image example i posted, i think i definitely wouldnt include the keyword "sig" in the name of it, but in the text that is inserted when the user selects it, yes it could be a link to their character page so something as simple as "(Character thumbnail) Character Name"


When I put in an example of what could go in the sig box I would call that a medium level complexity that someone could use, I think that most people would go as simple as just putting a character thumbnail and their name.


I actually just noticed in the toolbar that has all the buttons to edit font and stuff theres a button when you highlight it it says "Insert...." with a dropdown with "Code/Spoiler/etc." This is the same structure as i would think the character tracking would use except it would list "character A/Character B/etc." OR you could do it similar to the way the Smiley face button is, when you click it small thumbnails pop up for various smiley faces you can insert, instead of these faces they could be Char A / Char B / Etc. then you click it and it inserts the code saved with the character label :big grin:.


Again, i wouldnt attach the TABs idea with the idea of tracking characters, as i could see a lot of people not wanting to insert more than just a thumbnail and character name that is maybe linked to their character page or just the character signup page for the RP.
