Sean’s vision seemed to tunnel straight onto a corpse laying in plain view, mangled beyond recognition, not even eaten. Oh he remembered now, that was the trainee who was holding onto the emergency gas canisters who was caught by a strike from one of the titans. He had heard the sickening crack her body made when the titan's hand connected with her body. She was dead before she even hit the ground... or at least that's what Sea hoped. He couldn't imagine how painful it would have been to live through that first hit. It looked like she had gone ignored by the titans. It’s just like what they said in the lectures. The titans didn’t need to eat them. Did they do this just for fun? Some sort of sick recreational activity that their non-existent brains could think of?
Sean didn’t think of many things as disgusting, but titans were definitely one of them.
He looked back for a moment when Siegfried made his presence known before looking back down. He snorted at his warning before jabbing his thumb to his chest, puffing it out with a grin. “Come on Sigs, it’s like you don’t know me. I always play safe.” A bold-faced lie. Anyone who knew him for more than a day knew that he was the biggest risk-taker. There had been a rumor going around that the instructor had even said that he would be the first one to die on the battlefield because of how reckless he seemed to be. Well, he could at least go back to the Northern Division and confidently say that he hadn't died first, at the very least, and they should be proud of that. That is, if he ever got the chance to go back to them.
“Anyway…” Sean looked back to the basement and gestured to it with an idle wave of his hand. “Looks like there are four titans down there. I guess the others might have wandered off?” He looked towards the entrance of which the titans had created thanks to the congregation of humans inside. Now that there were no more humans in the basement, they probably headed out in search for more and these select few decided to idle around. Probably. Hopefully. He really didn’t want to deal with more titans all at once in a place with way limited mobility as compared to their forest runs.
Fighting and killing a titan was way harder than just running away like they did earlier. They escaped with their lives that time but what about now? Sean momentarily wondered if he would hesitate like this if he was placed in the vanguard. Would he be constantly questioning if he was capable or not? His results spoke for themselves, after all, but theoretical and practical were two very different things. The constant rumbling made him nervous. Despite being on the taller side of the trainees, he felt so utterly small in that situation.
Sean let out a small sigh, turning to Siegfried. “Four titans, easy peasy, right? I mean, we took down like a lot of cardboard titans in one go before.” He attempted cracking the joke to alleviate his own growing nerves. “So, do you have a grand plan for us? ‘Cause I don’t know about you Sigs, but I’m not sure I can slice up a titan’s neck while the other one is breathing down mine.”
