I'm starting an open role play (anyone can control all characters, the plot, and setting) about a group of colonists that gets marooned after a mutiny on another planet and have lost most of their technology on board the crashed spaceship. The ultimate goal of the colonists is to rebuild a civilization and possibly re-establish a connection with the Earth. Many of the colonists want to go home and some are going out of their mind with homesickness, which is the main reason for why the mutiny happened in the first place.


There are two factions, the mutineers and loyalists. A few people have managed to take some advanced technology with them (e.g. nanofactories), but probably keep this a secret because of the scarcity of these resources relative to the large number of colonists. This role play is about the difference that technology and lack thereof can make to people's way of thinking and living. The lack of norms of civilization could bring up the best and the worst in people. They could turn savage, or on the contrary more compassionate. They might live in peaceful tribes or be at each other's throats. The secret technology kept by some people is the wild card, and can completely twist the plot this way or that, disrupting or restoring balance.
