Assassin X Royal Target

Princess Sabine was taking a stroll throughout the palace with her ladies in waiting. She noticed a carriage pull up and she decided to watch from afar who it was.

James sat inside the carriage. The carriage was rather simple and didn't have any decoration on it. It was clearly a carriage not for a rich man but someone simple. Therefore it wasn't comfortable at all, James thought. He was passively watching the landscape through the window until the castle slowly came into sight. He was still surprised over how easy it had actually been to get a job at the castle. But James was more than relieved over that fact. His eyes started to glisten in anticipation as they rolled through the gates. Randomly his eyes caught the Princess, who he had heard so much about in the past few weeks. He thought that she was really pretty but this wasn't supposed to get into his way. So, he shuffled the thought away pretty fast. As the carriage slowly came to a halt, he prepared himself to finally climb outside and get his work going. He opened the door of the carriage and stepped inside. His gaze once again flew over to the ladies and he politely bowed towards them not aware, if they had actually seen him or not.

Getting over her shyness, Sabine began making her way over to James.

"Your Highness, you ought not to," one of her ladies advised.

"It's all right, Selene," said Sabine as she continued walking towards James.

"Hello," she said nervously when she had finally reached James. "My name is Sabine."

The boy, who was supposed to help him with his baggage, called angry out for him. "You can't do that! That's princess Sabine! We are not allowed to approach them!", he hesitantly told him and tried to usher his new colleague inside. James just looked carelessly at the boy. "I think we can't be so impolite and leave those women standing there alone. Especially when her highness is approaching me, don't you think?", he told the boy in a cold voice and waved him away.

Princess Sabine reached him and he bowed once again. His voice was reserved and he tried to banish all the coldness into it. "Your highness. I'm James Lewis. The new servant, milady.", he answered her not looking up just yet.

Sabine smiled shyly.

"It is very good to meet you Mr. Lewis," said Sabine. "Welcome to my home. I hope you will soon grow to love it as I have. And will please just call me Sabine. I have never cared for formal titles."

The boy watched the scene in clear discomfort. He grabbed some bags and scurried inside before he would get into trouble for this happening. James looked slowly up at the princess, taking each little detail in. Years of training made him master this skill without making people wonder what he actually was doing. "I am afraid my master won't allow me such profanities like not using your title, madam, and I don't want to start this the wrong way.", he replied and had a mischievous glisten in his eyes as he continued "Therefore, I am afraid you will need to ask me this question more often, princess."

"Very well," said Sabine, her smile faded ever slightly.

"Madam!" Selene called.

"I-it, was nice meeting you," said Sabine.

Sabine turned around and walked away.

"The pleasure was all mine, milady.", James replied and shortly watched the princess leave. With a recusant sigh, he thought that his first chance had just vanished. He didn't know why he hadn't just finished his job straight away but it hadn't even crossed his mind using the knife that was securely stuffed on his lower arm to just stab her and make a run. Sure, it wouldn't look like fine work but at least it would've been done. Taking a last glance at the princess, he grabbed his left bag and followed the boy inside through the servant door. James told himself he hadn't finished his mission and stun his order by how fast he was because it had been a public place and everyone being able to watch. With a grim nod, he accepted that as a fact even though it might just be an excuse. He would need a plan like the true tactician he was and not just fall head over heel into some half heartedly planned out thing. He looked around for the boy not sure where he was expected to be.

"You shouldn't fraternize with the servants, Your Highness," said Selene as they began walking again.

"What harm did it do, Selene?"

Sabine asked nervously. She honestly didn't see any harm in greeting the new servant and welcoming him to her home. She thought it was just being friendly and thought it would be nice.

As soon as he went inside an elderly men approached him and looked disapproving to him. James listened to the lecture a bit but soon drifted off to making his plan. He needed an opportunity to meet the princess alone. She didn't seem not to mind being approached after all the very first thing she had done was talking to him and welcoming him in here. Little did she know he was against her and the whole royalty. People should be able to rule themselves and not be ruled by some power-hungry families. He knew that his political view was drastic and not well liked. But it was something his order and he stood for. People ruling people not the other way round. Once he was dismissed and shown his way to his room, he looked around. So, this was going to be his home for whatever time he needed. Sighing he considered somehow gaining the princess's trust and therefore waiting and aiming for the perfect moment to finally fulfill his order.

As Sabine walked along, she came across her elder brothers, Philip and William.

"Dearest little sister," said William embracing her.

"Where have you been?" Philip asked.

"I was only greeting the new servant," said Sabine.

William and Philip looked at her disapprovingly.

"Sabine?" William warned.

"What?" Sabine asked. "I was only being friendly."

He sat down on the bed in the small room and looked around for a moment allowing the moment to sink in. So, now he needed to act like everyone in this castle and like he loved all of those royals like everyone else around here. Someone called his name and he walked out to whatever he had to do. With a sigh and a forced smile, he walked out to the other staff and got introduced officially and formally to the rest of the staff. James tried to remember all names and tried to figure out who might be on his side. He wondered if he should befriend some other people or just do his own thing.
