Cataphract Class: Vanguard-Class Super-Heavy Cataphract, "Linebacker"

"Linebacker" is a specially modified Vanguard-Class Cataphract personally designed by Big Apple at Lance's request. It's primary alteration is its use of the chassis of the short-lived 'Schwarzkopf' Super-Heavy MBT developed by the US Military to counter Chinese Cataphracts prior to the development of their own Mech's. "Linebacker" replaces the traditional bipedal leg sections of a Vanguard Cataphract with a turret-less and heavily modified Schwarzkopf chassis, greatly increasing "Linebackers" carrying capacity and recoil compensation, thus allowing for the use of heavier weapons and additional armor across the entire Cataphract. Additional modifications to "Linebackers" propulsion system allowed for the cumbersome Cataphract to move deceptively fast, with improved acceleration and top speed.

Of course such a design came with immense difficulties. "Linebacker" is obscenely heavy, probably the heaviest Cataphract currently deployed in combat, and suffers greatly from a lack of mobility with advanced vertical maneuvers nigh impossible. The unorthodox design also makes "Linebacker" easily identifiable.

In summary, "Linebacker" is a Super-Heavy Cataphract that possesses immense damage capability and durability as well as deceptively fast ground speeds and sprints. This comes at the cost of immense weight and mobility issues, and it's highly experimental design requires expensive and often tiresome maintenance after most operations.

It's armament consists of two hand-mounted Gatling guns, one shoulder-mounted MLRS, and one shoulder-mounted howitzer artillery cannon.

Other:

• Lance earned the callsign "Chuckles" due to his habit of laughing excitedly to himself when discharging weapons and destroying targets. A former squad member remarked he would "giggle like a goblin" when firing his SAW.
• "Linebacker" has been recorded as engaging multiple Cataphracts and come out on top with only moderate damage, as well as being able to shrug off all but the heaviest Anti-Cataphract munitions without much issue.
• There is one recorded instance of "Linebacker" nearly sinking in mud while crossing a river in Africa.

Cataphract Class: Chasseur-Class High-Mobility Cataphract 'Albatross'
In a collaborative endeavor between esteemed families, 'Albatross' was custom-built for a Knight of their family, before it was stolen by that same Knight. Built into the frame of a Chasseur, the design philosophy for this Cataphract was simple; upward mobility and maneuverability. Achieving this feat, however, was a difficult one. Additional thrusters and apogee motors are incorporated across the shoulders, legs, and dorsal section, ensuring optimal speed and directionality.

The minimalist armor profile of the 'Albatross' emphasizes both aerodynamic efficiency and tactical integrity, featuring strategically positioned zenithal peaks at its frontal aspect and a streamlined reduction in overall surface area. Two pairs of articulate manipulators are mounted on the dorsal region, handled by on-board systems and commands to be given by the pilot.

This Cataphract, designed to lord over the skies, has sacrificed what many would consider paramount. The experimental nature of the 'Albatross' renders internal modifications and/or warranty voidance a formidable challenge. Any compromise to the core block can result in confining the pilot inside the cockpit.

As for the Cataphract's armaments, 'Albatross' incorporates a dual-pronged approach, employing both missiles and melee combat. Single-edged blades can extend out from within the upper appendages, sharp enough to cut but hardly pierce. Concealed within the frontal recesses of the torso, eight canisters house short-range missiles. These cannot be reloaded. On the back are belt-fed missile launchers, the ammunition stored below the shoulders. These can be purged by the pilot or in the event that it runs out of ammo. To add additional firepower, one can make use of the hand manipulators or the dorsal simple manipulators at the cost of weight and unwieldiness.

• Joined the mercenary group known as the 20th Assault Company at age 22, a small to medium sized unit focused largely on front line combat.
• Served with the 20th for 16 years until an ambush by enemy mercenaries decimated the unit and killed the command staff. Jaiden was one of the only survivors. Most of his accomplishments during this time were lost due to the destruction of records that occurred when the command post was destroyed. However there is one confirmed report of him playing a key role in the destruction of a Cerberus unit two years ago.

Cataphract Class: Hussar-class Cataphract "Typhoon"

This Cataphract has been modified to better suite a medium-to-long range fire support role with limited targeting assistance for allies. The standard issue sword was removed, freeing up weight for a secondary ammunition bin for the missile launcher, allowing the unit to carry two kinds of missiles into a battle. Typically the primary bin contains medium-ranged guided munitions equipped with anti-Cataphract warheads while the secondary bin holds missiles selected to to deal with expected threats or to compensate for the terrain. Examples include longer-ranged missiles designed to be used in conjunction with a spotter, specialized anti-air missiles, and short range dumbfire rockets equipped with more powerful warheads when in urban combat. Additionally the missile launcher and ammo-feed mechanisms have been adjusted to allow already loaded munitions to be pulled out and swapped out with the other ammo type.

A mounting mechanism for an external ammunition container is located on the back, however equipping such a device would hinder the unit's mobility due to the extra weight. Stability is also affected and the Cataphract is more vulnerable to attacks against the rear while the container is attached. The larger the container, the worse the penalties. Expected usage cases for the containers are defensive or siege style missions where mobility is less important than having additional ammunition for sustained long range firepower.

The sensor and communication systems have also been upgraded to allow for better interfacing with friendly units acting as spotters. Additionally "Typhoon" is able to pull targeting data from nearby friendlies that it has direct line of sight with and share its own data in return, boosting the overall accuracy of itself and the units it linked with by a moderate amount. Unfortunately that particular advantage is greatly hampered by any terrain that interrupts line of sight and it can only link with a maximum of three other units at this time.

Armor, power supply, mobility systems, internal structure, and gauss rifle remain unmodified at this point.

It is worth noting that the current configuration does not meet the specs the machine had been reported to have during Jaiden's time with the 20th Assault Company. That version had reinforced internal structure and more powerful actuators to allow for greater carrying capacity. This allowed the Cataphract to mount a second missile launcher and an enlarged primary ammo bay without sacrificing much in the way of ground mobility. It has been decided that such upgrades may come later once Jaiden has proven himself to Cerberus.

“The Jacaré, an up-armored dragoon we’ve maintained at Dario’s request. Tetrapod legs for better terrain control and aerial stability, thermals and night vision screens, heavy-duty magnification lenses on the head unit, and a faster processor on the railgun’s CPU; it goes real deep into that long-range specialization that the line’s built for. The generator had to be swapped out for something stronger though, otherwise all these extra bits won’t be getting the juice they need. This tradeoff has made it a bit slow compared to others, but I don’t think that’d be an issue for someone who usually fights from the rear.

Other new components include a laser blade on the other arm and countermeasures on the shoulder for emergency situations, and a grenade launcher on the other shoulder to flush out targets from cover.

Finally, it’s got a new jungle pattern paint job. Not very useful out of a treeline, but it helps break the shape a bit regardless.”
