Just Clownin' Around
Spring, Mon. 1, 6:20am
A fluffy cat lays sprawled out in a spot of early morning sun. Becoming slightly excited each time a bird happens to land nearby. "Come on Coco." A soft, breezy voice called out from the field. As a lady known as Clair would be walking up towards the small house. "Time to be the welcome wagon." The cat would let out a disapproving meow continuing to lay in its favorite napping place beside the porch. "Suit yourself then grumpy. Try not to run off." Clair sets a watering can down on the porch steps and walks over to a vintage looking cruiser bike, basket up front and all. She swings a leg over and bumps the kickstand up before starting to coast down the dirt path leading from the farm to the road.
Keeping a leisurely pace she stops in front of the general store, one foot propped on the ground as she takes a moment to check the bulletin board. Besides the bi-weekly town meeting announcements there doesn't seem to much to take note of today. Starting off on the road again she waves to Mr. & Mrs. Perry as she passes their house. The old couple already up and at it this early in the morning. But before Clair can get very far Mrs. Perry calls after her. "Miss Clair!" She'd quickly stop causing her back tire to rear up a little. Scooting herself back in front of the old couples steps Clair smiles at the older woman. "Yes ma'am?" Mrs. Perry hobbles down the steps and puts a wrinkled hand on her shoulder. "I was just wondering if you were still on for tea this afternoon. Deon has been asking for more of your shortbread." Clair nods cheerfully. "Of course I just need to make another batch.." Her sentence trails off as her eyes widen a little. "THATS WHAT I FORGOT!" She exclaims loudly, her hands shoot up to each side of her face then quickly back to her handlebars as she turns herself around. "Sorry ma'am, I have to go but yes I'll still meet up with you later this afternoon for tea!" The older woman laughs as she makes her way back up onto their porch and sits in the rocker beside her husband. "What a loud one she is."
Clair peddles hard as she zooms back to the farm, hopping off the bike and letting it drop in the dirt she hurries into the house rummaging through her cupboards till she finds a small note taped to the flour can.
Remember to pick up more flour
"Auggghh!" She groans in defeat. "The stores probably not even open yet." She mumbles dejectedly looking up at the clock.6:40am. "Might as well head back out, it's a nice morning for a stroll I guess." With her shoulders slightly slumped she walks back outside. "Coming this time Coco?" The cat, now interested in all the commotion, saunters over to the fallen bike. Clair picks the bike back up then lifts the fluffy furball into the basket before slowly meandering back into town.
