Artifact idea

i've had an idea for a new-character, namely an evil 'devil'-esque character, not to disimillar from the devil from ghostrider.


i've been think about an artifact i would like the character to have, whilst i was at work today, and i thought a walking stick/staff that had the power to add or remove successes from dice rolls would be good...


can anyone help me on how you think it should be stated, or if it should even be done atall...

I remember seeing such an evilish thing in the B&W treatises, in some necromancy Void circle spell called Obilivion's Avatar some kind of cool powers that could fit the profile.


You could use some kind of bells attached to your staff, that could spread a cold aura of unease, thus removing successes or dices from a roll.


But according to me you can't do both, add and remove, unless what's been stolen is transferred to your pc (therefore augmenting by 1 dot the artifac rating).

I can also see a Sidereal having something like that, since their powers and abilities wrap around the effect of altering fate.  So, one of them having a gizmo that reduces the number of successes you have, or lowering the difficulty of a roll so that if he rolls a five on the die, it still counts as a success.  Many of their Charms work that way.

Yes but they are Fate-esque effects, not very devil-esque  :lol:

But, if you are looking to design an artifact that performs that kind of task, it makes it easier to refer to what is alredy in play as a basis for what you are making.  Compare effects and power levels to get a idea for attunement costs, effects, and artifact level.

Oblivion's Avatar? Ah, I tried that. The result? 3 hours of absolutely boring combat against a necromancer with 50 HLs that could use perfect defenses for one mote.
