Futuristic ARK: Survival of the Fittest (Closed)

"No joke," Roan replied, "I think we will be ok for now, though. If it did come for us, I'd imagine sharks would get it first."

Jack nodded and sighed, "Okay, let's just focus on getting this build and defended." He suggested Roan take both of the paras and go gather materials. Since Jack was the one with the building engrams, he could make and build the structure much faster if someone else was shuttling materials.

Roan did as he was told, going with the parasaurs and collecting as much wood, thatch, and fiber as the dinosaurs could carry. After about an hour, he returned to the shelter, "I got what I could, but I don't think these two can carry much more."

"That should last for a while, anyway," Jack nodded, climbing down the ladder to retrieve the materials. he'd widened the top platform they'd been sleeping on from a three-by-three grid to a five-by-five, and added another closer to the ground with a ladder going from the top layer to the middle layer. He was starting to add pillars to help support the weight when he ran out of materials and Roan returned. "Good boy, Hardhead," he said to the bright green parasaur.

"Come on up, I'll show you the plan, here," Jack said before starting up the ladder while his implant clicked to tell him it was crafting all it could with the limited processing slots it had. He'd marked out things on the floor using mashed up berries to outline two two-by-two squares on the corners closest to the water on the top floor. "Two structures," he explained, "One for me, one for you, that way we're not burning each other out at night, it gets hot with two of us breathing in the same enclosed space."

Roan followed Jack up and watched at he made out the plan on the floor, " I see. You really thought this through. I like the idea of separate rooms. It'll work out for us in the long run I think. We should have an area just for storage too."

Jack pointed down the hole in the middle to the floor below, "That's what that's for. It's off the ground so even if something gets in it can't take our stuff without taking the entire thing down."

"That..." Roan started before tilting his head and making a face of confusion," How did you manage that? And.. How will we get in without tearing it down?"

"There's two ladders," Jack explained, "You can't see this one from your side." He circled around to the rear of the structure facing the water, and pointed at the opposite side of the hole. "The ladder to get up to here from the ground is separate on the front, you just climbed it."

"Oh," He sounded, "You're getting really creative here, huh?"

He chuckled. Even though they had lost their 'smart one,' they were still doing pretty well. In fact, it seemed like they had an easier time agreeing on plans and working together without the other to cause trouble, "I hate to say it. It's rude. But I think Natalia being our get away is really paying off. Lets just hope that we don't ever have to repeat that."

"Ugh," Jack made a face, "I'm gonna be completely honest, as unwilling as she was to work, she'd have probably died anyway, but that's way too soon." He shook his head, Natalia had claimed to be an unrecognized genius, with two days of existence that severely opposed that statement, but she might have been useful for something had those raptors not gotten to her.

"I realize, but look how much we've gotten done." He said, "Imagine how much we could have gotten done if she were more willing to help. We might have a mansion."

Roan sighed and shook his head, "Or maybe we would know a better spot to set up away from raptors and sarcos."

"We can worry about the raptors and sarcos later," Jack gestured to the wall of spikes protecting them from creatures, "But they can't get to us up here." He did agree that a better place to be probably existed, "How about this, once we've got this place put together and prepared, we'll stock up on supplies and go looking for a better place."

Roan nodded, "It might be a good idea to tame more. Maybe find a flying creature if we can."

Roan looked out across the land, "I wonder what that giant obelisk is for..."

Jack nodded in agreement with the idea for a flying mount. "One of those pterosaurs might be able to carry your weight." He looked in the direction Roan was, at the giant red floating obelisk shooting a beam down like the beacons for those supply crates. "It looks really far away," it didn't look like a trip they could make on foot, even with the parasaurs.

"It might be.." He said. But that did made his any less curious. It was obviously meant to draw attention.. But why, "I haven't seen many pterasaurs here.. Have you?"

"I've seen them flying around," Jack pointed to some of them flyiing around, "But they only land at the asscrack of dawn when they're taking a breather, and they fly away when anything gets close."

"Oh," Roan said, just now noticing the flying creatures soaring through the sky, "I wonder what it would take to tame one of those.."

Jack shrugged, "I don't know, I can't get close enough to see if they're passive or not."

"I doubt it if they avoid everything." Roan said watching the creatures, "They're so small. I can't imagine they could lift much. We might have to find you a different bird."

"Oh, I'd crush it," jack agreed. "But I've got Hardhead, I don't really need to be able to fly." For the moment, anyway. "Where are we gonna get a larger bird, though?"

"I don't even know if there is any," Roan replied, "We could get you a faster land creature instead though."

"We'll see about that when the time comes," Jack shrugged, "Anyway, the implant just finished the walls."

"Oh, great. Need help putting them up?" Roan asked as he stood, "If not, I'm going to cook us up come food."

"It shouldn't take too long," Jack shook his head, "Go ahead." He started assembling one of the one of the boxes. Five of the walls were windowframes, two were regular walls, and one was a doorway. He did the same for the other box as a reflection before he added a peak to each of them, and used thatch for the roofs. By mid-afternoon, with the more abundant resources collected he was able to build faster, and put down one of the Simple Bed items in each. They looked really scratchy, but they seemed sturdier and harder to move if something managed to get up here and tried to run off with their beds.

"Hard part's done," Jack said, sitting down on the edge of the platform.

As Jack had set to work, Roan got to his own task, making their food. He had discovered that a mixture of berries, roots, and meat could make rather delicious meals. When the other man had voiced his hard work had finished, Roan stood, "Perfect, I made us some food. Try it."
