Futuristic ARK: Survival of the Fittest (Closed)

Vera groaned and nodded, "Yea I'll help."

The three set to work loading the dinos up and readying themselves for a trip. Roan thought for a moment, "What creatures are we taking?"

"All of them," Jack gestured to the raptors, the parasaurs, spino, Lil' Chicken, and the Pegomastax. "We're gonna be gone for potentially forever, if we leave them here alone they'll probably starve or something will find its way in to eat them."

Roan nodded and prepared all the dinos to leave. It would be a pain, but getting all of the dinos to their new home would be essential. Then he had a thought, "Why dont we go and set up first then come back and get the rest?"

"We'll need the raptors at least," Anna piped up, using her pike as a crutch. She could at least hobble along now, if she couldn't walk normally. "So we can deal with threats. And the parasaurs to move goods."

"Exactly," Jack nodded. "Leaving a couple raptors and the spino behind is just going to be an unnecessary second trip."

"Ok, if you two say so," He said, "but if any of them get stuck..."

"Like you said, the spino can probably climb extremely well," Jack shrugged, "And if the pass is big enough the parasaurs can get through, we don't have a problem."

"I hope you're right," He said. A while later, Roan would find himself watching teo raptors get stuck between trees from the back on the spino, he had no saddle, so he had little control over the beast. Roan sighed in disbelief, "How?"

"Here, sit still," Jack pulled alongside the trees the raptors were stuck on and took his hatchet to them, freeing the raptors.

"I don't think you should have tried to ride the spino so early!", Anna called from Dummy's back. "Why don't you come hop on Cicero and guide the spino like that?"

"Cicero has a bunch on meat on him," Roan replied, "Actually, most of the raptors do. They're not gonna be able to carry both."

It was true. While the parasaurs could hand a lot of carry weight, the raptors actually couldn't handle that much and still be able to run.

"I'll be fine, I just can't turn too well without reins." He shrugged, "We will be ok. It isn't too much further."

"Okay..." Anna shrugged, "Did you even name the spino?" As Roan promised, the place the girls had marked on the map wasn't too far ahead, but it was different from how they described. There were definitely cliffs on three sides, just not the kind that could double as walls. They were in a valley, anything that wanted to get to them only had to withstand a short drop.

"You sure this is the place?", Jack asked, looking around, "This is way more dangerous than you guys said." The wood for spikes to block off those upper cliffs was more than he'd anticipated. "Maybe you guys mis-remembered?"

Vera hummed, "It looked taller when we passed by..."

Roan hummed, "maybe we can find a good spot nearby?" He thought momentarily, "I think I saw a spot on the way. Its spacious but its covered. "

Jack paused to pull out his map, "It looks like there's something to the west, it's a straight shot from here, and it's close to the beach if we're wrong." Beaches were safe, so if that spot turned out to not be safe they'd at least have a safe-ish area to go to for the night.

"Maybe..." Anna frowned, "I could have sworn the geography was different!"

Roan nodded, "Lead the way, Jack."

Vera sighed, "Lets go."

Jack turned Hardhead around and to the west, finding a path and leading onward. The raptors had to do their jobs occasionally as other raptors appeared, which the spino was quite eager to help with. Having something that massive around, as much as Jack disliked it, was definitely way easier.

Eventually, they came out to a cliff on the edge of the forest. Sticking out from the cliff was a large outcropping, with a long slope down to the beach. The only parts of that outcropping that wasn't an almost straight drop-off was the slope down to the beach and where it connected to the woods. "Oh, I like this," Jack nodded. Much less resources needed to defend this in the short term until they could build something more permanent. In the distance they could see a large snowy mountain, and down below on the beach trikes and parasaurs wandered, with carbonemys, parasaurs, and trikes exploring around the cliff they sat on. And it had a beautiful view.

"We could definitely do something with this," Anna agreed.

"Looks perfect," Roan called, "Won't take long to set this up, and much more room for the dinos too."

"All we really have to defend is the two ways in," Vera said, gesturing to the only ways to access the area.

"We can put the spino on the slope," Anna pointed, "It looks like anything coming from down there would have to come up in force to get past it, so then all we really need to do is defend the side with the forest." Jack agreed with that.

"I think I've got plenty of spikes to put up a temporary barrier on that side until we can get the resources for a solid wall," Jack added, "And once we clear the rocks we'll have plenty of space for houses and stuff." If this worked out, they might even be able to claim parts of the beach! Space didn't seem like an issue here!

"Let's focus on a gate and a temporary wall then," Vera suggested, "Hoe many spikes and all do you have?"

Jack took a peek into Hardhead's inventory, "A lot. I figured we'd be setting up a base camp somewhere and I didn't know how many I needed, so I just made a bunch."

"Then get started on it," Anna nodded, "I'll see about getting rid of some of these animals, unless Roan wants to tame them?" She glanced up at the spino, "Otherwise, Vera and Roan can work on clearing the rocks so we've got space to work with."

"What do we have running around here?" Roan asked, looking around.

There were a couple trikes and a carbonemys running around, as well as more parasaurs, and down on the beach there were stegos, further to the south they could see the tall neck of a bronto, and to the north they could see more of the same. In the very distance they could see massive birds in the air.

"Well, you guys figure that out," Jack got off of Hardhead and got to work marking out and placing the spike barrier to keep things out until they had something sturdier ready to go, planting a gate so they could still get through. "I'll sort this out."

"Woah, look at those birds," Vera said, pointing to the large birds in the distance. Roan looked over, "They're huge."

"Those are huge!" Anna followed one with her eyes as it dove down and picked up something, then flew to a great height and dropped it onto a rock, flying back down to eat the corpse. Low-effort hunting. "That is so cool!"

"We could use one of those," Vera said watching the thing.

"Hey, task at hand!", Jack called, having just put the gate down on the seemingly pre-placed footpath and continuing the spikes right up to the edge of the cliff. "We can go after birds when we're better prepared!"

"I didn't say lets go get it, I'm not Roan," Vera defended.

"Hey!" Roan said sulkingly.
