Biography
Birth Place: St. Catherine's Bay, Adanaque
Date of Birth: 2 Nware 962
Nationality: Adanaquean?
Personality: If Archus had a real life philosopher of ethics assigned to his character, it would be Immanuel Kant. He believes in deontological morality, that no matter what the result is, one must always do the action that is morally right. It isn't easy to be considered one of Archus's friends, but if one did receive that honor, it would take an immense misdeed for Archus to revoke it. Archus loves everyone he considers a friend, so he doesn't dole out the term lightly. Once he respects someone and likes them enough to be friends, he is loyal to the end and will go to great length to assist them and protect them. Archus can be kind, sweet, and compassionate, but he doesn't have a great sense of humor. Above all, Archus is honest, to him, treachery and deceit are hand in hand, lying is something he would never do, not even to protect someone. Honesty is the only policy, in his book. Respect is also very important to Archus. He doesn't necessarily care if others respect him, but he does act differently towards people who have or haven't earned his. Archus values dignity and honor among allies and enemies alike, chivalry is in his nature and he expects it from everyone he meets.
2 Positive Traits: Loyal: Loyalty, keeping one's word, defending one's allies, these concepts are core to Archus.
No fear of death: He knows his afterlife will be glorious, the world he currently exists in is but a test.
2 Negative Traits:
Judgemental: As a devout believer of his religion's truth, he is quick to condemn those who act immorally.
Hasty: Because his moral code is so clearly defined, it doesn't take long for him to act on something, it doesn't involve much critical thinking as to the outcome of his actions either.
Weaknesses: Slow in combat, slow to accept new ideas, idealistic, naive, doesn't compromise ideals even if the situation demands it.
History: (INB4 vague non descriptive backstory, IDK THE LORE K)
Archus was born in a fishing village along St. Catherine's Bay in Adanaque. For two years he lived a simple village life, with his father and mother. His father was a candidate to become a village elder once he grew in years, he was a simple man with strong values, and he sure could catch a fish. Everyone knew everyone else in the village personally, as there were only two hundred and seventy people or so in the entire place. Yes, it was a sleepy little hamlet that almost no one had heard of. Archus's life changed drastically when his father died when he was three. His mother, who was so in love with her husband, went mad with grief. She was left to raise her son alone. She had no skills, other than weaving and child raising, the village helped to take care of Archus for a few months, but it became clear that his mother had no interest in moving on. Instead she slept most of the day and drank grain alcohol the entire time she was awake. She began to beat Archus when he was 3 and a half, something which the village people quickly noticed. Whenever he went out for errands other kids would notice bruises on his arms and legs. Of course, the boy didn't understand why his mommy was beating him, Archus assumed it was because something was wrong with him, he thought somehow he was to blame for his father's sudden illness and death. So for another few months this cycle went on. He would bring home food for his mother (with the help of older children, he was only 3 and a half after all) and she would refuse it, drink, beat him, pass out, wake up, eat, drink, beat, repeat.
She nearly killed him once, when he turned 6, she told him, "congratulations on completing another year in hell, sonny, now fetch yer mommy some drink from the cupboard", six year old Archus attempted to tell his mother that perhaps she should stop drinking so much, to which she responded by beating him so badly that it broke his ribs. Once the village elders got word of this, they had enough of Archus's mother. Men from the village took her son in the night and smuggled him in a wagon into a distant monastery so that he might be raised and taken care of with religious values. They thought there was still time for him to grow up as a pious and good young man. As for his mother, well, Archus never knew what happened to her. He didn't speak for an entire year at (religious institution), he felt betrayed by his kin, abandoned by his mother. He still loved her, she did give birth to him after all. His early years at the monastery were filled with confusion, anger, angst, and sorrow. He felt empty, like he didn't belong. The nuns and priests at the monastery were.. well.. they weren't nice to him, they were strict and demanded discipline at all times, but they also took care of him. They fed him three times a day, taught him how to clean clothes and sew, and cook, and read, and all sorts of things he never knew how to do before.
By his tenth birthday, Archus was beginning to properly receive the messages that his religious tutors were telling him. His first foot was started on the journey of religious salvation that would fill the emptiness in his heart and replace the misguided sadness and hate with nothing but love and passion for life. He took the religious doctrine to be an absolute truth, the only truth in the universe was the teaching of the church. He idolized the warrior priests and paladins of legend, they were so pious and devoted to spreading their message to everyone across the northern kingdoms, they fought for the Given Truth, not the truth of men. At age fifteen he was an acolyte of the church, he cleaned the grounds and cooked meals, he lived a simple and pious life, much like his father did. [insert church destruction and thorough beating plot device]
At age twenty four he was a wandering do-gooder. He lived mostly off of donation and the coin villagers could scrape together to pay him for doing good deeds (which he refused most of the time). He found joy in aiding others, but felt wholly without purpose.
By age twenty six he was chosen by the Holyland Alliance to be a certified Paladin, everywhere defending the innocent and spreading the goodness of the church through action.
