Approaching fellow RPers?

Okay, this is going to sound REALLY dumb, but I have to ask - How do I go about approaching/starting up interaction with other players? So far I've only written CS or introductionary posts. I would hate to spam one-liners but I feel like if I write an entire paragraph, it could get very limiting or overburdening for the person I want to chat up. Any advise?

I actually... well... I do this part better than everything else in my RP.

The best way in my mind is to write as if your having a conversation with someone in person, because you never respond without first hearing something from whom your talking to. (you probably should, if anything.)

Here's my example, though it's not for paragraph posts. Think about the scene and actions, and you can roughly extend it to a paragraph without much trouble.

*Thomas, who one person is writing, is talking to another character, Red.*

Thomas looks at Red and asks, "How's your day been," for he hasn't seen Red all day.

Red responds to his question, "It's really bad, I am being used as an example today." He says, for he really dislikes being used as an example.

Thomas, who can relate to the situation responds, "Yea, I can relate. I hate it when that happens." Thomas says contently.

Red, who is now overjoyed to hear this, takes a handful of confetti and tosses it into the air. "It's good to know we are being used in Cap's examples." He says as he starts to clean up the scraps of paper off the floor.

Thomas looks at Red as he cleans up the confetti, "I'm starting to hate that guy, he makes examples everyday and he thinks people read them." He says with a disgusted expression.

That was unexpectedly hilarious. Thank you! I'm not sure if that would do for the really detailed stuff, but it definitely gives me an idea. :)

Just wanted to chip in my two cents. It's a little late, but this might help?

I'd say look for 'focal points', as I like to call them. They're points in a post that allow for some sort of reaction by another character. Like if Character A is reading a book they dislike, and their expression changes accordingly. That example leaves you with two focal points: The book (which you could comment on if your character recognizes it, or ask questions about) and the expression (which you have the same options for). The more detailed you are, the more focal points you leave for the next roleplayer; hopefully, this in turn should leave more for your next post, if they keep the ball rolling.

Also, people like to talk about themselves (even in RP, as I've found), so asking questions is a really easy way of starting something up! Cap's example of "How are you?" is pretty simple, but it gets the point across: You want to drag them into the interaction.
