DEMONOLOGY


Overview


Demons are beings that live in Gehenna, a world of nothingness that faces Assiah like a mirror. Ordinarily, demons would be unable to make any sort of contact with the people of Assiah. However, by possessing either organisms or objects, demons can pass over into that world. Their manner of possession varies; for instance, some demons are able to possess humans by preying on their emotional instability or negativity. Others are able to possess objects that they have an affinity for. These objects can include non-corporal substances, such as light. Demons seek entry into Assiah to cause harm and mischief.


History


Demons have existed and possessed beings in Assiah for at least 2,000 years. Throughout history, specially prepared individuals called Exorcists have taken up arms against demons. Exorcists remove demons that have taken possession of either people or objects. Historically, the existence of demons has not been accepted by the general public (except for those who have had experience with demons), and Exorcists are viewed as either counselors or spiritual healers.


Organization


Most demons are organized into different “tribes” whose members have similar characteristics. These tribes denote a species’ affiliation with one of the eight Kings of Gehenna, the most powerful demon of its type. The Kings of Gehenna are as follows:


- The King of Earth, who has shown affiliation with demons such as the Goblin, Dekalp, Greenman and Bariyon.


- The King of Rot, who has shown affiliation with demons such as the Coal Tar, Ghouls and Naberius.


- The King of Time, who has shown affiliation with demons such as Phantom Trains.


- The King of Fire, who has shown affiliation with demons such as Peg Lanterns and Salamanders.


- The King of Insects, who has shown affiliation with demons such as the Chuchi.


- The King of Water, who has shown affiliation with demons such as Reapers and Krakens.


- The King of Spirits, who has shown affiliation with demons such as Ghosts.


- The King of Light, who has shown affiliation with demons such as Seraphims.


Combat of Demons


Religious organizations for fighting demons and demon supporters can be found in most major religions. While each religion tends to have its own unique sects of exorcism, major world religions such as Christianity, Catholicism, and Buddhism contain the largest groups of Exorcists. The True Cross Order, a Christian-based institution for exorcism, is the world’s largest group of Exorcists.


All known demons have a natural weakness towards holy water. Minor demons will be completely destroyed by exposure, whereas middle and upper-class demons will tend to have some level of resistance towards it. However, most middle and upper-class demons will exhibit symptoms similar to burns and necrosis when exposed to holy water. Holy silver and holy wine can exorcise and damage demon-possessed objects, as well as various herbs and medicines.


The vessels of demons can be exorcised through several different means. Fatal Verses from Biblical scripture will exorcise demons without damaging the host, but are often difficult to complete because demons will intentionally target Aria in mid-chant.

DEMONS

This can range from humans, to plants, to the very dust particles in the air. Their manner of possession varies; for instance, some demons can find their way into the hearts of humans by preying on their emotional instability. The only way to remove a demon from Assiah is to exorcise it, which can be done by slaying it, reciting its fatal verse, or by allowing the demon to remove any lingering attachments it has to the material world, as is the case with ghosts. In addition, demons have two major weaknesses: their tails and their hearts. It is considered proper manners for a demon to hide both their tail and their heart, as if the latter is destroyed, the demon will die. Ironically, for a demon to release its full power it must reveal its heart, which in turn makes them extremely vulnerable.

TRUE CROSS ORDER


The True Cross Order is the main organization of Exorcists. It is a global exorcist institution that it controlled by the Vatican.


History


The True Cross order has roots in Christianity, and was founded by medieval Christian knights. Originally established as a military order, the organization’s centuries-long campaign against demons has allowed it to discover and develop new exorcism techniques from all around the globe. As of today, the Order is the largest and most powerful exorcist organization in the world.


Mission


Given that they have defended mankind from demons for roughly 2000 years, it can be assumed that the Order both trains exorcists and exorcises demons. In addition, the Order takes it upon itself to heal humans who have been harmed by demons, as well as to proactively investigate possible demonic activity. An additional mission of the True Cross Order is to find and destroy human organizations that support demons and demonic activity.

Training


To be an official Exorcist, students first must learn the basics of exorcism and combat as a Page. Through practical combat tests that apply their rudimentary abilities in a practical scenario, a Page has the opportunity for promotion to an Exwire. Once they become an Exwire, students begin to specialize in certain disciplines to earn a Meister. Once Exwires are promoted to a Lower 2nd Class, they have officially become an Exorcist.


Uniforms


The typical Exorcist uniform is a formal long, black coat with silver buttons running halfway down the coat. Along the waist is a normal belt, pinned to the side of the coat is Exorcist pin to recognize the person as an official Exorcist.


Policies


Anything related to Satan must be destroyed without hesitation.

EXORCISTS


An Exorcist is an individual with the abilities and training to combat demons. Throughout the history of Assiah, there have been many different groups of Exorcists that protect humanity against these malevolent entities.


Page


Before becoming an Exwire, the individual begins as a Page, learning the most basic elements of exorcism and Demonology. To become an Exwire, a Page must pass the Exwire Authorization Exam. The exam consists of both written tests and a field test, which determines the class' overall combat abilities and teamwork skills.


Exwire


Exwires are student-Exorcists ranked directly above a Page. Exwires still attend classes and study to become Meisters, but are able to perform non-combat missions, such as maintenance and errand running.


Meister


A Meister is someone who has the knowledge to become an Exorcist. Essentially the most basic qualification for any aspiring Exorcist, the term Meister refers to the particular combat skill(s) an Exorcist possesses. There are five different classes of Meister in which individual can become qualified.


- Knight = A Knight is a Meister that uses swords to fight demons. Some Knights use enchanted demon blades; demon blades have unique abilities and are quite rare. Other Knights are also able to use powerful, long range magic techniques from their blades.


- Dragoon = A Dragoon fights using ranged weapons such as handguns and machine guns. Some may use specific weapons are ammunition to exploit the weaknesses of certain elemental demons.


- Doctor = A Doctor is a Meister with the ability to treat and heal wounds inflicted by demons; these wounds are known as masho. These people typically possess the knowledge of basic first-aid, emergency first-aid, and the ability to treat ordinary injuries.


- Tamer = A Tamer has the ability to summon and control demons known as familiars. It is a natural talent that few people possess.


- Aria = An Aria fights by reciting verses from the Bible and sacred scriptures. Aria specializes in knowing Fatal Verses which, when recited, exorcise specific demons.

A rank that Mephisto (the principal) has had for over two hundred years, due to his immortality.


Arc Knight


One of the highest ranks of Exorcist, which only 4 people at a time can have.


Paladin


This is the highest rank of Exorcist. There can only be one Paladin at a time and, typically, once an individual becomes the Paladin they keep the title until they are deceased.
