An AU of sorts starting from the OG Dragonball setting could be kind of cool. The idea of ki based techniques being relatively rare to start and gaining ones that complement your already existing style sounds like it could make from some interesting narrative.

I'll just post this for everyone to see. Since its a whole collaborative thing. So basically, I'd be interested in seeing a universe where, not necessarily Goku didn't exist, because that destroys a bunch of the established plot points. But maybe, say he didn't really do anything after the Pilaf saga. That way we could have characters help in the battle against he red ribbon army. Have a fighting chance in the World Martial Arts Tournament. And still be able to progress on the to Z plot-lines if those prove to be relevant to where the story is going. (I.E. Raditz shows up to figure out where his brother is, eventually progressing the plot to Frieza, with Goku himself having a minimal or non-existent impact.) That way we can focus on the permutations on actual martial arts and have a slew of characters defend against all the different enemies rather than it just being a giant showcase of "The Goku Show".
