I've been working on a tabletop Battle/Turn Based Combat roleplaying system recently, that with how the system is planned, would need a modular tabletop grid of sorts to actually function. While this is no problem for testing it with my small local groups, it would get tedious to do something like a grid in forum-chat, and I'm not too keen on my players constantly having to interpret something like a much larger version of this:
