Anyone interested in running an Exalted 2e game?

Arynne

Salmon of Doubt
I miss playing Exalted on this site, but I never really warmed up to 3rd Edition. Is there anyone here who feels the same way? I'd be open to either a 1x1 or with a group if enough players agree.

Running 2.5e takes a brave and hardy soul equipped with copious amounts of free time. It may be hard to find a taker. What did you think of Essence? The workload there is vastly lower, but I'm not sure if you're into Exalted 2.5e for the setting or the mechanics.

You can tell a good story anywhere, and with any Exalt types, so I tend to go with whatever excites the storyteller, since they're the one who needs to stay motivated to keep the whole thing a going concern. I personally have a soft spot for Lunars and Sidereals, but I can find something to like about all of them. I care more about the themes and the kind of story being told than geographical location, though the two can play into one another.

I agree entirely with Random Word Random Word . I find that pbp's tend to be too sandboxy and suffer from a lack of focus. I can have fun with any exalt type anywhere in Creation, I just want the ST to be passionate about the story.

I mostly prefer 2e for the setting, I miss the steampunk aspects, the Era of Dreams, the Lunars as social engineers, the Sun as a giant airship, and other stuff. I'm not really keen on the new combat system or the changes to martial arts and sorcery, though, either.

You have any specific Exalt type you wanna play? Any specific location?

I'm good with any Exalt type. (Added: and nearly any location, including the First Age and World of Darkness crossovers.)

Honestly, my main problem with pbp games on this site is the way the best Storytellers seem to burn out and vanish just as things are getting really interesting, sometimes never to be seen again...

Mmm, yeah, the setting of 2e is easy enough to glue onto Essence (or make a hybrid of the best of both), but if you don't like the mechanics that doesn't help.

I have to admit I'm shocked that Sorcery, widely regarded as one of the triumphs of 3e, is a part you liked better in 2e! I can't see any advantages of 2e Sorcery over 3e Sorcery. Spending actual motes on spells? No Shaping Rituals? No Workings? Ugh. I cannot go back to 2e Sorcery after experiencing it in 3e.

Exalted Vs WoD sounds insanely challenging to run, but very interesting.

Yes, ST burnout is a huge issue. One of the flaws of Exalted mechanically is how little it does to make the lives of STs easier. 3e and 2e are basically equally massive amounts of work, whereas Essence did a much better job of reducing the workload.

Unless Red Shadow Claws is volunteering, though, it doesn't sound like any of us have room on the calendar for the momentous undertaking that is running another Exalted campaign.

I think 3e is in some ways an improvement on 2e, especially the sorcery system, with Shaping Rituals and Workings.

But I will be using 3e's map of Creation to play in. It just seems cooler.

Here's my Pitch:

The Silver Dream
In the south of creation, under a blazing sun, three Lunars wake up. They have no recollection of how they got there, or even of who they are, but even so, something is calling for them. There's a yearning in their souls to go east-north-east, towards something they don't know, yet can't help but feel partly in awe of meeting, and partly in dread of meeting. Their only clue is a silvery shimmer on water they all dream of.

Exalt type: Lunar
Character Creation: Starting
Limits: Any social-style Merits, like Contacts, Allies, and such (including Resources), are things that your character will not be aware of, but they will 'discover' in-game.

Sounds fun! Do you want us to make up detailed backgrounds for us to "discover" or would you rather we focus on building personality, etc.?

Both would be great. But if you don't build a detailed background, then you'll have to make do with the background I conjure up for you, which might not be what you would have done for your character.

I'm interested. Are we divvying up the three castes between us? My preference would be Changing Moon.

If we're going to play with memory loss it sounds fun to explore the question, 'how much do your memories define you as a person?' by having a character who has done terrible things they no longer remember, to find out if they can be a better person this time around. I think leaving the precise nature of those terrible things up to the ST will make the examination more authentic and the events more plot relevant.

I'm thinking either a bespectacled owl-totem savant (No Moon) or an unusually chill Full Moon martial artist. What either of them could have done would be fun to discover...

If you are still looking for a storyteller for a 2e game, I could consider running an Alchemical one. I don't think that the Autochthonians get enough love.

That also sounds cool! In fact, I was just re-reading some of the old Alchemical games I've been in...

So, who would be interested in an Alchie game? I have some material already set for it from past games that I've run, so it wouldn't be too much effort for me to get one started.

I don't think I have enough time on my hand for two games, but I'm happy to go with either alchemicals or lunars.

Much as I love exalted, Alchemicals felt too cumbersome for me to wrap my head around their character creation. And it wasn't helped by all fan-made character creation programs to see the mess of it, and just not doing it, or doing it badly.

I was just offering up a suggestion. No one should feel obligated.

Well, I can certainly handle running the Alchemichals if you guys want. We'd just need to have enough players to make up a decent sized Circle.

I'd prefer grabbing Full Moon if we're divvying them up (which I think would be fun) since my other current characters are in the cerebreal/social category. I'm thinking something huntery or assassiny.

That said, a decision should be made regarding Alchemicals, Lunars, or both.
