Fantasy ... Elder Scrolls?

MISTER UN. 0W3N

Hecka random thought, but how would users feel about a small group thread based in the Elder Scrolls universe. Decided to replay Skyrim and got the news that this week's D&D Campaign was off... so the craving for high fantasy shit is there. What y'all think? Some of my ideas include that it's a group of travelers and shit coming together to do random jobs. And, users can come up with "side quests" aka the jobs that takes them around to complete quests and shit. Has that D&D feel and what not in terms of plotting and story telling. That, and it'd be cool if each user sort of takes control of a quest as a "GM" to guide and play the boss. ... yep. That's it. xD

I think that would be interesting. I really enjoy Skyrim and decided earlier today to start Oblivion again, so that's kinda on my mind. I've seen a couple ES roleplay around and had a couple 1x1s going on before the summer, but I haven't been around enough to know if they pan out in the long run or not. I'd probably be interested in joining up if you did this, though I only have mobile until mid-August, so my typing abilities and Internet access will be severely limited until then.

Honestly, I haven't even checked if there was anything going on in that regard. It's just a random craving I have. I've played some Morrowind and Oblivion, but I didn't get as hooked as I did with Skyrim. Probably because I played those games when I was pretty damn young and was more interested in anime and robot fusion. But, yeah, I was thinking casual in terms of requirements in story and some rules. Let people create their own profile sheets based on a basic template. ... maybe I can do the minimum of 2 paragraphs for this but expect character development/evolution. I tend to go nuts in terms of writing. I know I've done paragraph(s) posts on phones... that shit is nuts and makes me go crazy. xD

I enjoyed Skyrim much more than Oblivion, partially because I never had any interest in the main quest, but mostly just because I liked the Nords and Skyrim better than the Imperials and Cyrodill. I wasn't a huge fan of the main quest in Skyrim (though it wasn't bad), but I was very interested in the Civil War. I'm a history geek, so I guess that makes sense.

Yeah, I could see that being a good idea. Not expect novels, but hopefully get more than a couple sentences per post. I think that would keep from discouraging people, but would also set some expectations.

Would you want to have a main-ish plot or direction for people to go, or were you thinking everyone just group up and run wild?

I really enjoyed a lot of the side quests like the Daedric weapon hunting. I didn't really like the military campaign (just because I didn't like either side) and the main story... but holy shit what I can do and the spells. =w=

Two paragraphs should be enough to push things along. Get character interaction and give enough material for responses. I do tend to go above and beyond the 3+ though... so it'd have to be with a group that'd be alright with that sort of "wave" effect of beefy then lean posts. I just don't wanna see like... 5 sentences that are kind of hard to figure out the direction and what not.

I think it can be a combo of both really. The main plot could be formed with the group as they run around together. As I said, I like the idea of these travelers coming together to go on these jobs/quests to keep to that D&D feel.

Where and what year/time period would you think people would be interested in/most familiar with?

I liked the side quests, but was very annoyed that certain Daedric quests seemed completely mundane until they showed up at the end and were like "Bwahahaha, silly mortal, I have manipulated you to do my bidding!". Of course, that makes sense considering, but I found it irritating. Of course, it doesn't help that apparently I'm gullible and think nothing of taking the word of a talking dog.., (x

I expect that "wave" thing would be just about anywhere, since everyone has different styles. I think the main thing would be to make sure there were enough substaintial posts to keep it from the downward spiral that often happens.

Well, I've only seen Oblivion and Skyrim, so that's all I can speak of. They do seem to be pretty popular, though, especially with the return of dragons. Those are probably the ones that are most widely known, simply because they're newer and get more attention. One thing that I think people would be interested in would be the ability to travel all of Tamriel rather than being restricted to one particular province. I know that's something I wish was possible without dropping sixty bucks for it...

God... now I'm reminded of some of those lame quests from Dawnguard... xD Ah well, least inspiration can be drawn from the quests we all like and what not for this thread.

I usually tend to float with the high detailed peeps just because that's my niche and comfort zone, but I am feeling extremely lazy at this point. As long as I can properly respond and what not, I think I'm good with varying (good) content.

I think starting in Skyrim would be a good idea for the time being as well for the sake that it's the "latest" (not counting that mmo I heard about) game and that it seems mainstream in terms of having a good general audience. That'd be pretty cool if it comes into play actually! Like, it could be apart of a great quest or something?

Do you know anyone else that'd be interested in this?

I enjoy reading high-detail posts (within reason), but I wouldn't consider myself one of them. I usually hover around 3-ish paragraphs, I guess? I have some around, but I can't link to them at there moment.

Ooh, I like that idea! Maybe there's an artifact of some sort in each land and they all have to be gathered together for some purpose? Or perhaps just a search for knowledge in general?

There were a couple people I had 1x1s with before the summer. I can tag them real quick and let them take a look.

@Iskolde @zanarkand @solvernia @Trinket The Mage @confusedmai

Any of you guys interested?

That works. For me, I just type until I feel satisfied with the post. It could be small. It could be big. At least I can stand behind my posts.

It'd be funny if this group was brought together by a single source to get these artifacts. Have no idea what it's for, but it's gold that motivates them... for now.

It might actually be interesting if there were several different reasons for wanting the artifacts. Maybe for gold and fame, for adventure, for knowledge, trophies, to keep someone else from getting it, whatever. Then could either have a large group trying to work together, but disagreeing about methods and what to do with them, or could have a couple small groups racing against each other.

I like those ideas. xD I think it just depends on the size of the group. At most, I was thinking of 7 characters for this thread. So, rivalry COULD work at the beginning, but the idea of them fusing after some silly shit happening would be freaking funny. xD

That could definitely lead to some "interesting" conversations... (x

"So what have you been up to lately?"

"Oh, you know, this and that, just trying to steal this rare thingy-ma-bopper so I can look at it and go 'Ooh shiny'..."

"... That 'thingy-ma-bopper' is the most powerful artifact in Tamriel, it holds the fate of the entire world..."

Exactly... (x

Another question... Is this a super lore-heavy thing, or just basically an adventure that happens to be set in Tamriel? I'm just wondering about how much research or background information newcomers would need.

Hmm... that's a good question...

I think if someone wants to make something super specific (without going super special snowflake) or just need general knowledge, I think some research is alright. Just so you don't have anything coming into the thread that's not a part of the Elder Scrolls universe. Gotta stick with what's canon and what not in terms of races, classes, locations, and items.

Yeah, that sounds pretty reasonable. So all that a person would have to know would be a basic, general knowledge that you would get just playing the game, but could still delve deeper into the history and lore if they chose to.

Anyway, I'm going to go to sleep now. I'll try to check back in here, but this next week is going to be a bit full. Also, if you haven't already, you might try the fandoms forum as well if you need more people. Good luck!

Sure thing! Sorry about having to put ours in hold. I go back on August 23rd, so I should be able to continue then. (:
